If you use spell combat, you get 1 spell, which CAN be a touch attack spell, PLUS one melee attack. All attack rolls are at -2. So depending on the spell, 2 attacks. The spell does not have to be an attack spell.
At level 2, you can change that spell touch attack into a combined weapon/spell attack, and get your regular melee attack. So now you can: 1 spell + 1 attack, 1 touch spell + 1 attack, or 1 weapon attack with your spell on it + 1 attack.
At BAB +6 (level 8) you get 1 spell, 1 attack at full base attack, and 1 attack at BAB -5, so net 3 possible attacks.

Spell Combat is indeed available at first level. Spell Strike is not available until second level, which would let you make two attacks both with the weapon as the delivery method.
But yeah, what Shfish said. At level 1, you can have two during a spell combat if the spell is a touch attack, but it won't be made with the weapon. Otherwise, there's no extra attacks to be had.

I don't think you get spell combat at first level, which is what he asked.
I think the book open in front me definately says spell combat at 1st level ;-)..you are thinking spell strike which was my second line. I included that as inevitably the questions follow once they get spell combat down is "man, now how does the rest work"...was preempting that.

Keep in mind that you're NOT restricted to doing spell combat for your spellcasting which is something a lot of newbie magi forget. Also keep in mind that at first level your to hit isn't that awesome and taking a -2 penalty in order to hopefully not blow a concentration check on your cast spell, should not always be your first choice of moves.
