Matin and Kurasaviel, welcome to the party!
I've been extra-busy the last few days but believe my head's back (mostly) above water again.
EDIT
These new additions help to round out our Knowledge skills nicely, though we still lack Knowledge: Religion, Planes, Nobility, or History. The first two in particular will be nice for us to have eventually.
Prolly not a big deal for now, just something for us to plan around eventually. That said...
Matin (if-and-ONLY-if it fits your concept) since all Knowledge skills are class skills for you, and you have Bardic Knowledge, just a single skill point in each of them will give you +7 in them...either if you want to make tweaks now, or to take some or all at a future level. (I'd assume if you DO want to make tweaks now, that you'd still have time until you're introduced.) And again, if it doesn't fit your concept, just ignore this!
Cheers.

Bards and knowledge are always good. I am planning on going a bit more combat heavy; might multiclass fighter. I more want to see how the story unfolds and how that influences the character's growth, but the idea is to blossom into a mobile damage dealer.
Matin Crowtongue
I'd be fine with that. I can break up the skill points I put into Geography and put them into those four categories. Matin already stole a wizard's spellbook before, maybe he's been pilfering the local libraries as well.
Clarabibulus Flingflopsparkfizz
Cool! One btw, one of my favorite characters started her life as an Archaeologist Bard. She's ended up multiclassing into mostly a Swashbuckler, but I continue to think of her as a Swashbuckaeologist.
Hey leinathan, how do you feel about non-elves learning blend?
Officially, it's DM's discretion for non-elves.
If it's allowed, I might seek out a wizard (or alchemist) with the spell, to see if I can pay them to copy it.
leinathan
I think my stance on racial spells is the same as my favorite DM's - that you can't learn them on your own, but you can learn them from a spellcaster of the appropriate race, taking double the time and cost.
So, if you want to find an elven wizard who knows blend, roll me some social skills.

Kurasaviel was a fixture at The Rusty Dragon. Would any of you have frequented there or spent any time in Sandpoint?
Clarabibulus Flingflopsparkfizz
leinathan--sounds good!
Kursaviel--Clara has been in Sandpoint since it was founded ~60 years ago (by Niska, Koya's mother, amongs others). The only exception was a few recent years of apprenticeship in Alchemy in Magnimar.
She's likely known by anyone who knows Koya (or who knew their mother, Niska) as the odd gnome adopted by the cleric of Desna.
Kurasaviel
More than likely the two would at least know of one another. Does Clara have a favorite drink?
Calder Brandson
Nope, you wouldn't know me at all. Not from Sandpoint, only showed up as caravan guard for Sandru. Joined up with the crew and left soon after. So barely a week in town.

Teeheeheeheehee.
Yes, indeed she does...and you couldn't have set Clara up better if you tried. ;-)
She's an alchemist, and from a long line of alchemists, and her family's quest for generations is to recreate the recipe for the Ultimate Fizzy Drink (created by her great-great-grand-papa Umbilicus. She's fine with sampling all kinds of beverages...but loses interest in any that isn't fizzy (so prefers ale to wine)...and really is only interested in fizzy sodapops. Having lived in Sandpoint, you should feel free to know any of what's covered in her background (pasted below).
Tragically, the original recipe for the Ultimate Fizzy Drink was lost during the Tarrasasque invasion of -632 AR. Since then the Flingflopsparkfizz clan has worked frenetically -- but fruitlessly -- to try to replicate it. Her parents Guplibcriggit and Fess continued the family quest while operating a confectionary in Magnimar, specializing in unusual sweets and fizzy drinks. When Niska Mvashti came to their shop one day for a treat for her toddler Koya, Fess and she got to talking. Minutes turned to hours, and eventually they were cooking the Desnan seer dinner and seeking her counsel in their efforts to rediscover the recipe to the ultimate fizzy drink. From that day on they were fast friends.
One afternoon as Clara's parents scoured the markets of Magnimar for exotic ingredients for their confectionary (and reagents for their alchemical experiments), they met an untimely end in the mandibles of a dreaded spider-like shriezyx that escaped the cracked foundations of the Irespire. As she did a couple days a week, Niska was caring for four year old Clarabibulus along with her own five year old Koya while her friends worked. When nightfall came and the Flingflopsparkfizzes had yet to return, Niska began to worry. The seer consulted the Song of the Spheres and was able to locate their grizzly remains...but it was far too late for her to save her friends Guplibcriggit and Fess.
Knowing that the couple had no family in Magnimar, Niska adopted the wide-eyed gnomish girl as her own. When she felt called to help found the town of Sandpoint a few years later, she brought her daughters (one biological and the other adopted) with her, and so Clara has been in Sandpoint since its first days...but (as is the way with gnomes) has only recently come of age. Koya, who is only a year older than the gnome but who grew up as fast as all humans seem to, transitioned gradually from playmate to more of an auntie role. Meanwhile the little gnome continued to play with joyful abandon, amused by her sister growing up and adopting a son of her own, Sandru. When Clara showed a predilection for alchemy, Niska sent her to Magnimar for an apprenticeship.
Clara returned home to Sandpoint when she heard Niska was ill, so when her adoptive mother passed to the Boneyard the sisters were able to mourn their mother together. Later, when helping Koya to go through Niska’s belongings, they discovered a folio with tattered scraps of Umbilicus’s journals and notes..with scribbled additions from countless generations in the margins, trying vainly to fill in the gaps. For the last few week’s she’s poured over them. Too many sentences end as burnt, stained, or ripped fragments...but Clara has found several references that she suspects might be to the flora and fauna of Tian Xa!
Clarabibulus has decided that her own parents has gone about their Great Quest all wrong: staying at home, trying recipe after recipe. Great-grandpoppa Umbilicus had adventured beside Nivi herself, and had clearly found interesting ingredients to add to his soda pop in the wild reaches of Golarion.
Clarabibulus is going to succeed where previous generations have fallen flat. She's on a quest to discover the legendary missing ingredients and create a new recipe to brew the Ultimate Fizzy Drink.
When she hears about a chance to travel over the Crown of the World to the continent of Tian Xa--accompanied by her sister as well as several tougher members of the Sandpoint community--she jumps at the chance!
She enjoyed the food and activity at the Rusty Dragon, though she's always been eclectic in her tastes...so safe to say she's visited just about every bar, restaurant, and tavern in Sandpoint at some point or another...and while she hasn't been a regular per se, the Dragon was tasty and entertaining enough to draw her back more often than most places.
If you've been friendly to her, she'd have offered you a sample of her fizzy drinks at some point. Some come out wonderfully (truly unique and delicious), others are unfinishable by anyone but perhaps a gnome (uniquely terrible). And she's never yet been satisfied enough with a batch to try the same recipe twice.

Welp. I hope our illustrious GM will allow me to move some skill ranks around to have some points in Profession Bartender because my official side quest is now to recreate the Ultimate Fizzy Drink.
Clarabibulus Flingflopsparkfizz
Awesome! Clara will happily quest side by side with you. (She's long wondered why non-gnomes seem not to understand the Importance and Grandeur of her noble quest.)
leinathan

Feel free to make any changes that you like, until you make your first post in gameplay. Let me know when you do make a change, though.
And speaking of your first post in gameplay, I'm loath to crowd up the thread with too many different things going on at once and so want to get at least Matin's introduction done before we get you, Kura, into the game. Sorry if that delay is annoying. Soon!
Kurasaviel
No big deal I'm well acquainted with how difficult it is to add in new people mid-campaign. I bide my time
Kurasaviel
Moved 2 points from UMD to Profession Bartender. By our powers combined we will find the recipe!
Kurasaviel
If you don't mind, GM, I might make a leaving Sandpoint post just to get into Kurasaviel's mindset.
Tallak Sigurdarson
Part of the reason I've been quiet, aside from waiting on Itissa, has been a busy work schedule. Also, my grandmother is slowly passing away, it would seem, so what downtime I have is being spent a lot with family. But like I said, I'll post as soon as am able.
Irissa Fiore
|
Vexing as it is, I don't think I can continue. Been a week and I'm yet to make any progress towards my next action due to various IRL issues, mostly job-related. Just ain't fair to hold everyone up like that, especially since such schedule will probably persist for some time yet.
Kurasaviel
Also GM at this point by should I assume you're going to tie my meeting the group into their foray to wherever they're going?
Tallak Sigurdarson
With Irissa taking a leave, would it make more sense for Tallak to have accompanied the others and have just been quiet this whole time? That way we don't split the party?
leinathan
Yeah! We can just say that Irissa went off on her errand alone, and I can have her come back with some info later if you want or something. There's a lot of things to steer though.
I had an idea that'll get everyone together. I'll see if I can jigger up a post this evening.
Kurasaviel
I will also say, if needed, I can switch up my build. Matin has trapfinding and skills. If you need me to do an arcane character instead I can keep the background and concept and switch up. I'm cool either way.
Calder Brandson
This is a great campaign, I'm having a lot of fun, both with the game it's self, and role playing with the other characters. It's just a shame we somehow keep losing people just as we're getting somewhere.
Kurasaviel
I don't have much inclination to play an arcane character for this campaign, honestly, but I'd be happy to if there's need. That said, unless group consensus is for me to switch it up, I'll stay as I am.
leinathan
I always get more people than I need or want for a reason ;) somehow this always happens in PbP. It's okay, though.
I think it'll be perfectly fine if you stay as a rogue. And if you get antsy, you can take Minor/Major Magic and Bookish Rogue to be a mini-wizard ;)
Clarabibulus Flingflopsparkfizz
I guess one of the advantages of a big caravan is there are already assumed to be many around us doing other stuff...so Irissa and Rae and Kikiri can kind of fade into that group.
When we head to Asvig's shall we assume they're part of the contingent left to heroically guard the caravan?
leinathan
Yeah, I keep meaning to remember to mention them (along with the other hirelings that you guys have) but it keeps slipping away whenever I need a post. It never seems important enough to write about.
Either way, yes, you can assume that the former PCs are off doing their own things. There are, for example, several hundred pounds of food that you need to buy and lug into the caravan.
Kurasaviel
If you ever make it again add a little bar cream to keep it from curdling :3
leinathan
Thanks for the tip, Kura :) I'll try that for sure.
Also, for Kura and Matin: If you find yourself online but it's not your turn yet, feel free to pre-roll your action in the Discussion thread, so that I can post it if it becomes your turn while you are away.
You're in no way obligated to do this (just in case you want to wait for the results of actions before yours to roll your action), but it's a nice solution to holding combat up because you happen to not be around right when it becomes your turn.
