Ive been running the AP and I have a question about the Shard of Envy. It grants a +1 insight bonus to AC. The dusty rose prism ioun stone also grants a +1 insight bonus to AC. As I understand it insight bonuses dont stack. So unlike the other shards the PC carrying this one doesnt gain the benefits of the ioun stone? I will probably rule that in the case of the shard they do stack, but Im curious if Im understanding this correctly.

Hmmm...While skymetals are keyed to certain school of Thassilon magic and what not, I can't recall ioun stones having any precedent besides what is introduced in this AP. If you feel that it is a bit of a nerf (To which I slightly agree) it'd be pretty easy to swap the required ioun stone with a different shard.

Honestly, I'd go the opposite. The point of the Ioun stones is that they negate the rather hefty curse associated with bearing a minor Artifact. The fact that one out of seven of them has no further benefit isn't really a Nerf. Especially when you consider that the curse it negates has a strong likelihood of affecting the bearer & can be pretty debilitating.
Some of us remember when bearing an Artifact meant bearing a curse to go along with it.

In fairness though, it is a nerf in comparison. +1 AC is already one of the lower Ioun stone bonuses compared to stat increases, and those Ioun stones keep their abilities when merged with the shard. It's not that I don't think it unfair that the Ioun stone lose it's power to counteract the curse of the shard, but rather, in comparison to the other shards, it doesn't seem to match up.

So you guys are envious of the other shard's abilities compared to the Envy Shard?
Sounds like it's working.
Haha! Perfect!
Irnk, I remember that too, along with a great many other things. I wasnt calling it a nerf, I was just curious because of the way the other shards were designed to work.
Mr.Jacobs, thank you for the response. It wasnt disappointment so much as curiosity whether that was an intentional design choice or an oopsie.
Thank you everyone for the input!

And I wasn't going to point out the metagame envy effect... but the fact that the envy shard has this disadvantage when compared to the other six shards is kinda by design.
AKA: Not an oopsie at all.
