Help! Want to build a character like Judge Dredd

So after watching the Karl Urban flick Dredd, which is awesome, I want to build a pathfinder character like him. So my fellow pathfinders I call upon you for some advice! Let me see what you have!

I've built one as a backup character. Inquisitor/Paladin of Abaddar going into Justicar eventually. Specializing in the heavy repeating crossbow and wearing a gold plated breastplate. Will be investing in special types of magical bolts, eventually.

Sovereign Court

You really need to look at the Hellknight prestige class in the Inner Sea World Guide. He is exactly what you need.

What class should I start with if I go into Hellknight? Inquisitor?

Silver Crusade

Yeah Hellknight via Inquisitor of Asmodeus would be my suggestion.

Bear in mind that Dredd is at best an anti hero and at worst an actual villain protagonist. At no point can he be said to be a hero. I'd put him as LN or LE depending on the interpretation of the author at the time.

Superman he aint...

For a judge dredd? Probably not an optimal choice but it screams the armored gunslingerarchetype to me.

Paladin into hellknight is probably the most optimized choice, but just can't see Dredd as a paladin, so yea either inquisitor or fighter. Might be able to spin a ranger too. You'd need heavy armor prof. for both the inquisitor and the ranger so you'll either a fighter level or a feat. Both would be pretty fluffy with track and such though, and the extra skill points would really help flesh out the character. I'd skip hell knight with the inquisitor though. Lower BAB means you get it later and you'd need the armor prof. and the inquisitor is a fairly level based class. Add in no caster levels from hellknight and you'd get more for staying inquisitor.

Lantern Lodge

Id say a LN Gunslinger 5/ Alchemist 5. Alchemist for Explosive Missile and Explosive Bomb for highly explosive bombs and bullets that explode. Gunslinger because of awesome gun abilities.

I AM THE LAW.

LAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

How about going gunslinger mysterious stranger archetype 1, fighter 5 and then putting the rest of your lvls into hellknight.
This should work out decently, since both the mysterious stranger and the hellknight benefits from a good cha, and it would be pretty much in style with Dreed.

Silver Crusade

He already exists in d20 rules!

There was a Judge Dredd RPG!

'Judge' was a class. It had d12 hit points like a barbarian, 8+Int skill points/per level like a rogue, all good saves like a monk, and +1 BAB/level like a fighter.

Their class ability was simply bonus feats at the same rate as a fighter, but they had access to special 'judge' feats which were like feats but better!

Good luck in finding the game, and even more luck in persuading your DM to let you play one!

BTW, Psi-Judge was a Judge only PrC whic they could qualify for by, IIRC, 3rd or 4th level!

Thanks guy. This is gonna help me build him. I will make sure when I write the description of him he wears the same scowl that Karl Urban wore through out the whole Dredd movie.

But it would be SO MUCH MORE FUN to play the Sylvester Stallone version.

why not gun tank into hell knight?

Alternatively, an inquisitor with the black powder inquisition going into hellknight.

+1 to both

Grand Lodge

I miss the Greyguard!

Shield Marshall prestige class looks like it would have some nice Judge utility powers.

I Knew You'd Say That (Ex)

Judge Dredd adds half of his hit dice as a bonus when making an intimidate or sense motive check.

I completely forgot about black powder inquisitor!

I'd suggest Black Powder Inquisitor of Asmodeus going into Hellknight.

Sczarni

Like Batman, Dredd is too dark of a hero to be a paladin. I would Definitely have at least 5 levels of inquisitor for the BANE ability. Just my 2 copper pieces.

Dredd can totally be a paladin. Remember, Good is not nice. Paladins don't need to be about flowers and redemption. They can be about righteous vengeance and fire-based purging.

While I agree with this, There was no mercy in Dredd (unlike other judges) he's the definition of Lawful Neutral.

I certainly wouldn't call him a villain like above.

Just imagining the GM's reaction to the character sheet.

what? an inquisitor/paladin?

As others have said a merciless Inquisitor of Asmodeus working toward Hell Knight is a bolt on version of a fantasy Dredd.

HE IS THE LAW(FUL) NEUTRAL!

No way could he be a paladin. He has done some borderline evil, and surprisingly chaotic iirc acts from the comics. I'd have to pull mine out for a specific example, but it is another room on a shelf.

I was agreeing that good =/= nice and paladins don't have to be flowers and redemption.

But in earlier editions of the game, judge dredd was even used as a LN example.

He's LN and thus not a paladin…

hes not a villian either.

I do not agree with the chaotic aspect.

I can't find it right now, but I was thinking of a time he destroyed someone's car then fined him for pollution. In a later issue he burned down a hotels and called it in as "infested with a rat" to get a perp. I was thinking these were a bit chaotic, but it may come down to the early writing.

Spellslinger Wizard/ Hellknight Signifier (From paths of prestige)
You even get a cool helmet.

what? an inquisitor/paladin?

More just the overall seeing someone coming to a table with a character ripped off from a science-fiction franchise.

you mean people come to your table with original character concepts that aren't ripped off from any novel or movie??

Fascinating.

More a long the lines of "Lawful Evil" or LN with evil tendencies… using the loop holes in the law to get what one wants, while hiding behind the pretense of the law is a lawful evil trait, not a chaotic one.
