Rune solider Louie build

I am going into a new game with a new Gm and want to play a genuine good guy for change (I usually play magnificent b.....) so I decided I wanted to play rune solider Louie (an anime character)a very inept good natured wizard who is very good at punching things in the face. We are starting at level 6 so how would you build this character so that he isn't totally useless?

I don't think I've finished in that series, but I like what I've seen of it. Even though he went to wizard school, I don't think he was much of a wizard (from what I remember at least). So would you want to go full wizard, or for a partial caster such as a magus?

For a wizard, I'd probably go 1 lv unarmed fighter, then the rest into enhancement specialist wizard for the bonus to one state. But with the wizards 1/2 bab it would be hard to hit without a lot of prebuffing.

Another option would be a magus (or other 3/4 bab partial caster) wielding a cestus, since that would look very similar to attacking with your fists.

Different approach:
Some years ago, I played in a PBeM and a friend played a somewhat... nice huge big fellow with no hair. Strong, huge... you know. Human giant-mental dwarf.

Kept on talking about what his mom said.
It was a point buy game. The player got the ok of the DM to lower Int and Wis lower than usually possible...

Stats: Str 18, Dex 16, Con 16, Int 3, Wis 6, Cha 14. Put his two feats into Toughness and Weapon Proficiency Greataxe.

And played a sorcerer. Spells: Magic Missile and Shield.

For the first few levels, he had almost as many hitpoints as the fighters... and hit just as well and hard.

Now that's how I imagine Louie. Not as dumb... since he's a kinda prophesized hero, he needs to have real good attributes.

An interesting approach might be a magus... with Improved Unarmed Strike.

Scarab Sages

Ftr 4/Wiz 2

Take the Brawler Archetype. Pick Unarmed Strike, Wpn Focus (Unarmed Strike) and Wpn Spec (Unarmed Strike).

For the wizard side of it... you could probably pick almost any version, but something with the Arcane Bond (Wand) if you want to be accurate towards the anime.

For spells... Magic Weapon is a must! :)

If you are allowed to use 3.5 the enlightened fist prestige class from the complete arcane book would be a great start

As to class i would look at Empyreal Sorcerer/Monk and flavor the sorcerer as the really wasn't interested in learning magic so he memorized a few spells and thats it.

Fighter? From the manga/anime I'd have said said Barbarian, most likely Invulnerable Rager, because of his tendency to lose control and start hammering enemies with his fists.

If you do go Fighter then most likely Brawler is the way to go, though I'd also look at Unbreakable, as like many manga characters one of his defining traits is his ability to take a hammering and keep going.

Wizard with the Wand arcane bond is obvious, and though I haven't read far enough into the manga to know how his character develops beyond volume four (and F@#k you too ADV) going Eldrich Knight probably wouldn't be out of line.

This will likely all make a badly unoptimized character, but then he is a badly unoptimized character as presented in the manga/anime to begin with.

Take a level or two of Unarmed Fighter or maybe of Monk. Then go the rest of the way magus (maybe with the Kensai Archetype).

I was thinking of going a 1 level dip in wizard then the rest in a martial the most impressive spell I remember his casting was knock so that doesn't seem unfair.

True, but that's more a reflection of what a low-level character he was throughout the series rather than what his ultimate magic level could be. Once you get into higher levels in game there's no reason (beyond personal preference) not to give him more magic levels.

I had a session today and rolled some pretty outrageous stats, these are
17,16,16,14,11,3 (4 1s rather miraculously) which changes what I can do with my sheet. The gm wouldn't let me re-roll the 3 without re-rolling the rest of my stats so I am kind of stuck with it. The only way to keep my character viable is to put the 3 in cha so do you think a ruin solider build is still viable with 3 charisma?

Oh hell yes.

You're going to have to find a way to get proficiency with Large animals. And the GM is going to be able to know the damage dealt by blows made with wands, staves, and rods ahead of time.

To further calibrate expectations, keep in mind that Rune Soldier Louie is set in the same world as Record of Lodoss War.

Oh HELL YEAH

Go full wizard. Str of 18. Int of 11. Cha through the roof. Wis only slightly lacking. And yes , beat people across the face with magical weapons not up to the task of melee combat.

I don't think you can convert Louie the Runesoldier perfectly. His wisdom has to be low, though. He can be pretty smart -- he's hitting the books -- but his wisdom has to be at least . . . . 9?

(he knows right from wrong, he just can't tell the difference between a club and his wand). Note: Although RoLW is awesome, the gods have the silliest names in Runesoldier. Especially Miley. Sounds great in Japanese, but silly in English.
