[D&D 3.5 Eberron] xX_Rikku_Xx's Savage Tide - Recruitment

Recruitment

Human civilization first arose on the continent of Sarlona. Humanity traveled west across the Lhazaar Sea, settling the few islands they found and finally landing on the eastern shore of Khorvaire. These forst explorers established the nucleus of what would come to be known as the Lhazaar Principalities. Wave after wave of settlers followed, opportunists and adventurers from across Sarlona.
Not all of the seafarers of Sarlona settled on the coast of Khorvaire. The kingdom of Khunan was one of the mightiest nations of old Sarlona, and the pioneers of Khunan discovered a fertile island in the waters of the Dragonreach. Legends speak of the fabulous wealth these islanders drew from ocean and land. But these legends always come to an abrupt end, hinting at a terrible doom that overcame the people of this so-called Isle of Dread.
Now darkness stirs beneath the Dragonreach, reaching out towards Khorvaire. The Savage Tide begins anew!

Hey all! I want to start a DMing career with the Savage Tide Adventure Path.

Character Creation Rules

* 32 point buy.
* 1st-level PCs.
* Starting gold is 250 gp.
* LA up to +2, LA buyoff is in effect.
* No half-dragons.
* No racial paragons.

The Eberron conversion notes will be used, but an exception you should note is the conversion of Wee Jas. Wee Jas keeps her name, titles, domains, and portfolio from Greyhawk, but the everything else about her from the conversion notes still applies except she is a blending of Aureon and the Keeper rather than the Shadow. A much more benign version of the Keeper. If you have City of Stormreach, read about the religion of the giants and this makes more sense.

I know very little of 3.5 and nothing of Eberron.
Will that kill me?

I use 4shared for 3.5 books I don't have.

I think I have a player's handbook and possibly the odd splat around somewhere, but I'm sure everything I need is online.

Liberty's Edge

AWWWWW, no half-dragons???? maaaaan, nobody wants to allow half-dragons, pfffft.

Might go ahead and apply anyway.

Just so I understand, you're allowing level adjustment up to +2, so does that mean you expect everyone to have an ECL of 3? or is that what you intend to take care of with the buyoff?

I meant that race with an LA adjustment of +2 was allowed, not that you are required to play one. But yes to the LA buyoff question. You can also use Savage Species as a source if I approve your choice. If you think that's a bad rule, though, I should probably just change the LA to +1. I'm a noob, haven't played since 2005 and only then I had limited experience. What is your opinion?

And if it makes you feel any better, dragonborn and spellscales from Races of the Dragon are allowed, with the Eberron flavor provided in that book.

Would you please elaborate a bit on that? Are these the LA buyoff rules?

I actually ask just out of curiosity, I fully intend to submit a Valenar elf. Would that be an appropriate choice for this campaign? I know a lot about Eberron but not about the campaign.

How about lycanthropes? I love their rich history in Eberron :)

This is purely hypothetical to understand the level adjustment thing:

If I wanted to play an ogre (LA:2)
Would I be an ogre as in the MM at the start?
Would I be an ogre with a 32 pt buy for stats?
Would I be an ogre with a character class?
Would I be a 1HD ogre?
Or is playing an ogre not allowed because it's got 4HD to start with?

Yes, those are the buyoff rules. And of course a Valenar elf is appropriate, I also suggest reading the Savage Tide Player's Guide you can download off this very site.

Something I forgot to mention (I feel like a nitwit):

When you create a character, please come up with a notable recent event in your character's life that might mark him/her as an adventurer.

If you submit a character sheet for one I'll think about it, not a guarantee. They are a LA +3 in the Monster Manual. Just remember Eberron has 12 moons. :)

Monster Manual, p. 290

If a creature aquires a character class, it follows the rules for multiclass characters described on pages 59-60 of the Player's Handbook. The creature's Hit Dice equal the number of class levels it has plus its racial Hit Dice. For example, an ogre normally has 4 HD. If it picks up one level of barbarian, it becomes a creature of 5 Hit Dice; 4d8 HD for its ogre levels, plus 1d12 HD for its barbarian level. A creature's "monster class" is always a favored class, and the creature never takes XP penalties for having it. Additional Hit Dice gained from taking levels in a character class never affects a creature's size.

More information is on page 290.

The Exchange

When are you closing submissions? I'm on Vacation until Thursday so won't be able to post my full character. Here's the concept however:

Halas Tarkanan. Human Soulknife
The bastard son of Vharn Deneith, Halas was conceived while his father was on assignment as a bodyguard to Liesa Cannith during the Last War. Following the war Liesa returned to the Cannith workshops in Sharn, brining young Halas with her. Until his adolescence life was kind to Halas. His mother and House Cannith provided for for his education and safety. That was until his fifteenth birthday when his Dragonmark appeared...

I'll write more later but basically Halas has an Abberant Dragonmark. This is what caused him to be cast out of House Cannith. Because of his unique bloodline of Cannith and Deneith, Halas's Dragonmark empowered him to create something unexpected. A corrupted version of a House Deneith Bastard Sword.

The recruitment will last until I have a party of 5 PCs.

I'm flexible, so everyone who feels like joining please just submit a character concept for me to review first. I don't know yet if I should change the LA to +1.

A druid may begin play with an animal companion selected from the following list: badger, camel, dire rat, dog, riding dog, eagle, hawk, horse (light or heavy), owl, pony, snake (Small or Medium viper), or wolf. If the campaign takes place wholly or partly in an aquatic environment, the following creatures are also available: porpoise, Medium shark, and squid. This animal is a loyal companion that accompanies the druid on her adventures as appropriate for its kind. A 1st-level druid’s companion is completely typical for its kind except as noted below. As a druid advances in level, the animal’s power increases as shown on the table. If a druid releases her companion from service, she may gain a new one by performing a ceremony requiring 24 uninterrupted hours of prayer. This ceremony can also replace an animal companion that has perished.
Wild Empathy (Ex)
A druid can improve the attitude of an animal. This ability functions just like a Diplomacy check made to improve the attitude of a person. The druid rolls 1d20 and adds her druid level and her Charisma modifier to determine the wild empathy check result.

Took me a while to remember the subtle differences between editions, so this sheet took me waaay longer than it should.

Concept and backstory:

Arkhen Valeran is an impulsive Valenar elf, fresh from the boat of Aerenal and seeking to make a name for himself. From a young age he has been appointed as a favored scion of a particular elven ancestor, a great hero of the elven revolution known as Greenshade. The glory of receiving the attention of such an important spirit made the boy overly proud and confident in his abilities, and he met every test head-on. He emerged from the rigorous physical training of the Tairnadal as a strong, supple fighter, connected to his guiding spirit in ways few understood – he was known to appear possessed on a couple occasions, fighting with a strength and endurance unmatched by any elf. His skill and confidence were only matched by his arrogance. And so Arkhen was sent to Khorvaire, to wage war on the puny half-races for a couple decades until he had the experience to face the elves’ traditional enemies in the exotic land of Xen’drik.

At the last minute he changed directions. Following his ancestor’s nudges, the elf decided that testing the boundaries of the weaklings wasn’t as dignified a task as chasing out the ancient enemies of the elven race. Defying direct orders from his warband leader, he stowed away a ship headed for Stormreach, eager to hunt down giants and drow in order to make himself worthy of Greenshade’s attention.

The whispers he hears in his meditations have other objectives, though. Greenshade was a silent hunter who stalked the woods, covered head to toe in mud to move past drow sentries and slay them without raising an alarm. He was as stalker and a killer. Arkhen is a gloryhugging, bloodthirsty fool. The spirit nudges the elf to its past hunting grounds, hoping to teach the boy some patience, discipline and humility. If he is to be successful, or if the arrogant boy will die a painful death at the hands of giants only the ancestors can truly know.

Mechanics:
Arkhen would be a Valenar elf Barbarian going into the Revenant Blade prestige class from the Player’s Guide to Eberron book. His barbarian rage would actually represent a closer connection to his ancestor during battle, to the point where their two spirits touch and fight like a possessed warrior. Along the way to the prestige class he would likely learn a little about stealth (Hide and Move Silently skills from a ranger multiclass) and hopefully a lot about patience and humility. I look forward to see his development in both personality and mechanics.

With your authorization, Arkhen would use two small alternative rules: the wood elf race described on the bottom of this page to represent the Valenar elf as opposed to Aerenal and Khorvaire elves. The second is the whirling frenzy alternative to the common barbarian rage, to represent his increased combat prowess by receiving the spirits of his ancestors. If you do not allow the first rule (wood elf race) I would have to reassign his ability scores, but if you do not allow the second there is no big loss for the character.

Without further ado, here goes Arkhen’s sheet:

Sure, play a wood elf. Whirling frenzy can also be used. I have to ask though, why is Arkhen in Sasserine? It's a port city on the southernmost island of the Lhazaar Principalities, it's closest neighbors being the gnome-dominated principality of Lorghalen and Q'barra.

Q'barra does have a problem with marauding Valenar warbands though, so Arkhen wouldn't be too far from his people.

Helpful material for everyone.

Yeah, sorry. I had the Player's Guide but not the Eberron conversion. When I read "Big city on the edge of an enormous jungle area" I thought you would be adapting Sasserine to Stormreach at Xen'drik. I will adjust Arkhen's background a bit.

I still need to work out the numbers, but I present my submission Sliver, Warforged Warlock

Sliver awoke on the docks knowing who he was, but not where he was from. As a warforged, he had no particular needs so he decided to investigate his area. As he was walking, Sliver came upon an armed robbery. He knew that that was wrong and that he had to do something about it, so he called up the energies inside himself and unleashed them on the criminal. The victim ran away. Since that day, Sliver has wandered the streets and canals of Sasserine taking odd jobs where he can find them because he realized that was expected of him and doing good deeds where he could. Among the lower class he has developed a bit of a reputation as someone who helps people. He recently rescued the daughter of a merchant from her kidnappers, leaving them smoking husks.

Silver Crusade

Backstory

Raised by the Druids in Eleeden Reaches, Alandolf is a favored druid. Recently his nemesis Kyroden Hawkstorm has made several political moves against him. There are some on the Council of Druids that are thinking Shifters are poor people to recruit from. Recently Taimus an Elder druid has received various reports in the east about a druid named Visigash. Taimus is sending Alandolf to find out more about him, Taimus is hoping that Kyroden will be stopped by Alandolf success if this investigation brings back good news.

I´m a Eberron enthusiast and would like to play, although i´m a Eberron 4eth DM and Pathfinder GM´. i´ve never played pbp before , will it be a problem?

Of course not, I'm just starting with PBP too. And your bugbear will be okay.

i am interested in this. Eberron is one of my favorite settings.

I would like to play a Neutral Dread Necromancer (although i will possibly descend into evil depending on how NPCs act).

If that isnt allowed, i would probably play a Warlock (i do miss that class not being in PF).

i could come up with other ideas too, but those are the ones that stand out to me.

ah, missed that someone supplied a warlock entry already. in that case my secondary entry would be perhaps a swordsage, or artificer.

depending on what class idea i can get passed, i will find a suitable race which will also determine the area of origin.

the dread necromancer idea would most likely be from karrnath but be involved with the draconic prophecy. the swordsage idea would likely be a displaced cyran, where the artificer would most likely be affiliated with house cannith and reassigned to investigate the isle of dread.

I find myself tempted to play a Changeling Binder (from Tome of Magic). Will have to get to work on the background.

Sliver's profile has been updated. Though I still need to purchase gear.

More about Braniak Whirlwind:

Born in Daargun, in the Kaldor region,he came rather young to work for the ruling Clan , as payment for his tribe loyalty. There , he learned from the Hobgoblins that not all combat must be made with the savagery of his kin, but instead learned to think before acting. He also learned to track in the borderlands of the country , so , when the time come for volunteers to come forward and represent it´s country with House Deneith , as a mercenary, he was there. With House Deneith he left his home country and started working for them all across Khorvaire, until now...

Afternoon guys! I just wanted to follow up. I am withdrawing my application to this game.

last post by GM was a week ago.

I am SO SO sorry I haven't posted in so long. Real life hit me bad. I had several family members over for the holidays, and my time has been forced to be occupied enrtertaining them for the several weeks they have been staying. Also, I have gotten the news my uncle has cancer. I'm afraid I'm going to have to cancel this game, sorry to disappoint everyone. When things are less hectic, I might try GMing again, who knows. Again, very sorry.

Good luck on personal life.
