Scaling Mythic Items?

Mythic Adventures Playtest General Discussion

I had heard from more than one source that there was intended to be scaling mythic items (reminiscent of Weapons of Legacy from 3.5) in the Mythic playtest.

Was this something that didn't make it into the playtest? Or was the idea dropped altogether?

Forgot about that. I too am interested in this.

Goodies left secret for the printed book?

I hope not. This is something that has been screwed up REALLY bad before (Weapons of Legacy).

That's hardly a reason not to do it

1 person marked this as a favorite.

That's not what he said. He wants them - he just doesn't want them untested.

Fair enough, my mistake

The rules for scaling items were not ready for prime time at the point where we had to stop adding to the playtest document. They are still in development and I hope to post them up here on the boards for some testing before the playtest period comes to a close.

Cool. I cannot wait to see how Paizo's scaling items work. I built some for my game and look forward to testing them as I have built armor and weapons that scale. So I really want to see how closely they match how Paizo does a similar concept and if like usual I prefer the Paizo version to mine.

Are scaling items exclusively mythic? Or can non-mythic characters enjoy them?

Liberty's Edge

I know the ones I've made in my game are for non-mythic, but I am very hopeful that the ones in this book can be used for non-mythic as well.

Just a counterpoint here because I 100% disagree with you. Our current campaign uses them extensively, and I've found them to be not only really cool, but a great way to gently guide the plot of the campaign.

They're much, much better than yet another +N sword of [roll ability on Table 5-17].

It's all in how the tools are used. To me, saying that Weapons of Legacy was screwed up really bad is similar to saying a hammer's screwed up really bad because it stinks at removing screws.
