"Well, we're hunting bearbeasts and catbeasts. If you're talking about the terrorbeasts, if you see them at a distance, the best thing to do is go the other way and hope they don't catch your scent. If they charge you, use the biggest guns you've got non-stop until they drop. If you live that long, that is."
GM_ZenFox42
"Well, it stands about 3 feet high at the shoulder, and resembles a cross between a wolf and a panther. Its long tangled fur is usually dark brown or black, making it hard to see at night, but it looks frightful if you can see it. It's very stealthy, and its mouth is lined with double rows of serrated teeth. Better hope you don't run into one!"
Harold Wainwright
Your right, sounds mean, but if that is the terrorbeast?
What do the bearbeast, and the catbeast look like as well. This is so that we can try to identify them, if we run across them.
Arabella Stormworth-Darling
Arabella glances at her new shotgun to make sure it is fully loaded.
"Reminds me of a story I heard of a wilderness guide giving some advice to some green hikers. He said, 'There are three critters ya want a know about. The first is a bounder beast. They are relatively easy to scare off if'n ya have some bells on yer pack to make some noise. Watch for bounder scat, which tends to have seeds and sometimes small animal bones. The second it a wilderbear. It's best to carry some pepper spray ta shoot at 'em ta drive em off. Their scat has a brown color and undigested plant matter. Then there's the Grizzly drake. Ya kin tell it's scat by the small bells and the smell o' pepper spray.'"
Harold Wainwright
Ah yes, the standard grizzly bear joke. almost like the one where the sister in law and her husband ran into a grizzly and all they had was a .22lr. she got out of there perfectly fine, the husband not so lucky as he was shot in the kneecap. :)
Harold Wainwright
Well sir, I would rather know for sure about what they look like being an offworlder an all, than see one and confuse it with a terrorbeast.
He pauses
Any suggestions for the catbeast, and bearbeast if we run into them

Brook can be seen in the rear of the vehicle mostly just shaking his head.
"So help me if the dude says 'catnip & picnic baskets' ..."| GM_ZenFox42 |
You ride around in the ATV for the rest of the day, keeping your eyes open for the flower. There are some hills that are too steep for the ATV to handle, altho from what you saw of the riders, horses probably could.
Do you stop at those hills and walk around them on foot, or skip them?
At dusk, you set up camp (I know nobody said they were packing for it, but [retcon] Evan said that it might take you a few days to find the flower, it's very rare, so you brought tents, food, fuel, water, etc.).
You hear the calls of wild animals in the distance.
What do you do regarding sleeping? Will there be a watch?
Arabella Stormworth-Darling
Arabella agrees that the group should check all reasonable locations for the flower, even if it means walking a bit.
She also agrees that no one sleeps unless someone is awake and on watch.
She also suggests a campfire, in case the beasties are afraid of fire. Maybe wrap some large branches with some rags with some lamp oil applied to make torches that can be lit from the campfire should an aggressive animal approach. Swinging a flaming branch might intimidate it, if it can be intimidated.
Harold Wainwright
Wish we had a shock fence. Might have kept things out. But a watch, agreed. Who's first.
Harold takes the time to set the tents properly, along with a portajohn and privacy screen by the UTV on the camp side.

Whose watch: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Brook is sitting by the fire, staring into it, when he hears a soft voice say "Don't make a sound, or I'll shoot you." He looks up to see one of the men you spoke to this morning at the edge of the fire's light, pointing a gun at you. Behind him, you see shadows of several more men.
What do you do?
Where's your gun - in your lap, in a holster, lying on the ground beside you, etc.?

Holster, right hip
Remind me; can he Boost himself twice? Like the same trait? He is going to boost Agility, Quick Draw, shoot, and use bennies to make sure he gets a good hit
GM_ZenFox42
Sorry, you can't Boost the same Trait twice, and there's no such thing as Quick Draw anymore.
If you're boosting Agility to draw and shoot first, I can't find any good rules for a one-on-one "showdown" duel, I'll have to think about that and get back to you.
***And don't forget about all those shadows behind him...
Other than that, go for it! You'd have to sit silently for a Round while you're casting, I'll roll to see how antsy that makes the guy.

Brook, never one to argue really, smiled.
He smiled silently. He winked at the local man, and smiled even more broadly, silently.
Then he closed his eyes, still smiling, still silent.
Brook casts Boost Trait on his Agility

Brook, still never one to argue, mostly, continued to smile.
He continued to smile silently. They might possibly have seen him purse his lips somewhat as he was thinking ...
He opened his his eyes, still smiling, still silent.
Brook then casts Boost Trait on his Vigor ...

Please always make the appropriate die rolls in the same post you say you're using a Skill, thanks!
Sorry, I forgot to mention in my last post, all three of them are Aiming at you (+2 to the Shooting roll). Do you drop your gun as requested? Please check your PM before answering.
The only thing that Brook has moved are his lips ... he wants these guys rattled, at least enough that he's bought the time to augment himself, and enough that they will come further into the camp, making noise AND hopefully raise their voices when he remains motionless
GM_ZenFox42
Harold - these guys have been very quiet, you'll get a Notice roll at a penalty once they've made some significant sound.
The second one who spoke last says again quietly "Look, drop your weapon now or we'll shoot you all." He shifts his Aim to one of the sleeping bodies, and the third one shifts his Aim to another one. The guy you first saw still has his Aim on you.
Brook, please make a Focus roll to see if your Boost was successful...

Can we go through what that means again ... I'll go back and review in just a bit

Player to player: This situation has TPK (total party kill) potential. Even if you think Brock is capable of outdrawing three men with guns aimed, some of those guns are aimed at sleeping PCs who have no defenses. Keep in mind that in Savage Worlds, when rolling damage, a dice situation that would normally just cause a survivable wound can with repeated aces turn into massive amounts of damage that cannot be survived. Think carefully about your next action, for everyone's sake.

"Dude, you come in here and tell me to be silent, so I was silent; you could actually also just tell me to get rid of my gun, and I would, because if you don't tell me, how would I know, it's not like I'm psychic ..."
Brook gives the man a headcocked inquisitive look, "May I do this now or what!?"
We can forgo the casting until it's time for Brook to Boost Arabella, oh btw, clebsch, Arabella's profile labels Charismatic & Hard to Kill as Hindrences ;)

In the "Plot Twist!" spoiler above, one of the men said "C'mon kid, quit stallin' and pull out your gun with two fingers and place it nice and quiet on the ground, and no one will get hurt."
The man says quietly but menacingly "What are ya, deef (deaf)? I already told you to drop your gun, so quit stallin' and do it now!"

After Brook drops his gun, the man says quietly "That's good. Now just stay still and no one will get..."
Suddenly, the other two men cry out in pain. One of them fires a shot in the air.
Everyone wakes up (no rolls needed). It takes a few seconds for everyone's sight to adjust to the fire light. You see three of the men from earlier in the day, two of them are wrestling with things behind them in the dark. They have guns in their hands.
The man who was aiming at Brook turns around and appears to shoot at one of his men.
What do you do?
Arabella Stormworth-Darling
Spirit: 1d8 ⇒ 2
Wild: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Combat Paralysis rolls are at -2
Result: 4 - 2 = 2, failure.
Arabella sees some kind of conflict and her old PTSD kicks in and she is unable do more than grab her shotgun and stand, retreating from the fighting and out of the firelight if possible.
Harold Wainwright
Harold flips off his blanket, and rolls to his sock feet, pulling his trusty desert eagle out of its holster.
He takes a moment to see what is going on, as he grabs his belt.
Man I wish I got an underbarrel flashlight for this.
He takes a moment to determine what is going on.
