A non spell, at will?

Advice

Shadow Lodge

huh so im trying to think if paizo has opened up a way to have a player character have an at will, unlimited use, SA or SLA ability.

has anyone looked in to this? i would be really interested if someone found a way to do it.

Grand Lodge

Have you spotted one or are you just fishing?

there are a few examples for this:

a paladin has detect evil at will, and a number of monster races have at will abilities, so with the advanced race guide you can create one.

There are some feats in ultimate magic that give you some spells as SLA, but not unlimited use

hope this helps

Cantrips and Orsirions are, more or less, at will.

Also, there is ways to get a cantrip as an at will spell-like ability.

There's the "Spell-Like Ability, At-Will" racial trait you can give custom races, but it's in the Monstrous power-level, so most PCs wouldn't have access to it.

That's pretty much the only one i know, aside from what some classes give anyway.

There are a few other ways to get a 1/day SLA though.

thanks for your help, i was trying to remake a 3.5 character who used a 1st level spell at will, i couldnt figure out a way to do it myself. thanks ill keep trying to see if i can do it without trying to build my own race.

What was the spell?

What was the race?

Sounds pretty OP to me, especially if it's CLW, magic missile, or something similar (useful at all levels).

But if the spell is Crafter's Curse or Play Instrument...

Witch Hexes aren't quite SLA's, but a lot of them are at-will and could be used to simulate certain spells, like Sleep.

Drow nobles can cast dancing lights, deeper darkness, faerie fire, feather fall, and levitate at will or a regular drow with three feats.

Drow nobles have a level adjustment and aren't normally available to players as a character race. Your point about regular drow and the feats is valid, but you do have to get to level 5 first.

Paladins get detect undead at will, druids get alter self at will (as well as wild shape and some others), and many other classes grant at will powers at some point throughout their levels. As for getting a SLA at will from your race at level one, it basically doesn't happen. You can take a trait to get stabalize at will, but that's the sort of thing I don't expect to have a big impact by being at will instead of x/day. I definitely wouldn't expect anything that gave a character unlimited uses of a 1st level spell from his/her race. That would make your race better at casting than many casters at 1st level. You could ask the wizard to use comprehend languages, but the Racethegmmade can cast it at will, and the wizard only gets 4 if he's specialized, has 20+ int, and prepared it in all slots available.

Just to note on the Drow Noble comment: There is no such thing as Level Adjustment in Pathfinder. A more powerful race ups the average effective level of the party it is in for purposes of determining XP earned and challenges appropriate to the party, iirc.

This is what I was refering to.

The Exchange

An Air Elementalist Wizard (from the APG) can cast Feather Fall on him or herself at will... Only helps if Feather Fall happens to be the 1st level spell you were after, of course... ;)
