I have no idea what you are talking about with regards to the cartoon series...
However - the Horizon Walker prestige class is all about mastering terrains, including but not limited to the Plane of Earth.
Entry requirements are pretty easy (1 feat + 6 ranks in Geography) for any class to meet - but some get more out of the Prestige Class then others.

Druids make excellent elementalists. Take the caves subdomain and get all the neat pit spells. Wild shape into earth elementals. Summon nature's earth elementals. Good stuff.
The majority of the "natural" elemental spells are accessible by way of the druid spell list. The pit spells aren't really that natural, but I think they're cool.

Agree here. For bonus points, go Dwarf and take the Stonesinger alternate racial trait.

How about an Unarmed Fighter/Sorcerer [elemental earth bloodline].
I would maybe do an even split although that will severely gimp you in the spell department. Possibly move into Eldritch Knight in order to improve both combat and magic at a decent rate.
Really though I think that the elemental benders do need to have a class all their own.

Play an Oread Qinggong Monk. At level 4 you can swap slow fall for an ability called Mighty Fist of Earth which allows you to shoot fist sized rocks at range which do your unarmed strike damage. Then at 6th level, you swap for Stone Shield which allows you to make Stone Barriers as an Immediate Action.
