Ifrit Dawnflower Dervish

Advice

Starting a new campaign this weekend. I've decided to build an Ifrit (ARG) Dawnflower Dervish.

Stats are:

STR: 8
DEX: 18 (+2)
CON: 12
INT: 10
WIS: 10 (-2)
CHA: 16 (+2)

Feats: Weapon Finesse (GM's house rule that Dervish Dance requires Weapon Finesse), Dervish Dance*

Traits: Strength of the Sun (Legacy of Fire), Resilient

I was originally thinking a two level dip into Paladin, but not sure if it's worth it really?

Any suggestions or ideas?

Heh, I'm running an Ifrit DD / Paladin of Sarenrae in an upcoming Legacy of Fire campaign. I was planning on Pally all the way but realized that it wouldn't be until lv3 that I had much combat effectiveness, and I'm also going to be the only healing capable class in the group. My DM allowed Dervish Dance bonus feat to be prereq free, so I took extra performance feat, Adopted trait, Genie Blood trait, and Magical Knack (Paladin) trait.

I wouldn't dip into Paladin. In my opinion, it's not that much of a benefit for all the requirements, and since you have to maintain all the strictures of a Paladin throughout the character's life, you might as well just stay paladin. What bonuses were you looking for from 2 levels of Paladin?

+3 to all saves and smite evil?

Our GM also house rules that Paladins get free weapon focus in their deities favoured weapon. So a +1 to hit too.

The more I think about it tho, I think sticking to Bard is the way forward, I'm really interested in the Ifrit feats 'Scorching Weapons' and 'Inner Flame'. Think it would work quite nicely.

Wow, free weapon focus feat is pretty sweet... I''ll have to ping my DM on that one... *grin*

In love with the visuals this evokes.

Your DM thinks Paladins deserve more?

You could dip into Urban Barbarian for a big Dex boost.

Yeah... The race really fits the theme, doesn't it?

On a different note, I think the OP really should keep straight Bard, losing those precious caster levels and spells known hurts.

Actually, I'm his DM.

I tweaked Paladins, Antipaladins, Cavalier and Hellknight Smite/ Challenge.

In a nutshell, two handed weapons do 1.5 x Level; off hand has been reduced to x 0.5 (similar to PA). I wanted to encourage 2 handed Paladins, and discourage the default TWF Palis (or at least make 2H Palis more of a valid choice).

Cavaliers also get x1.5 with the Lance (in addition to 2H).

Also smite was toned down; DR is only ignored vs undead, evil outsiders and so on (instead of all evil), and there is no more double damage on the first attack vs these guys.

In exchange I also grant Paladins and anti paladins a +1 to hit with their dieties favored weapon during a smite.

Divine bond was slightly changed (Anarchic for Chaotic paladins, Conductive for Neutral Paladins; both in exchange for Axiomatic).

Also slightly altered the capstone (the Banishment effect is optional, and the Pali gets SR 10+level vs evil spells, and spells and effects from evil casters)

Finally, Paladins (and Anti paladins) can be any good (and eny evil) respecively, as long as they match the Alignment of the deity. Slight variations on code depending on alignment and areas of intrest of deity.

LE Hellknight/ Antipalidins of Asmodeous kinda work for me.

One question -

With 8 Strength what kind of weight will you be carrying around?

I'd be scared of being encumbered with your weapons, armor, & gear.

There are ways of increasing one's carrying capacity, and lightening one's gear.

Pathfinder Delver PrC.

Ive houseruled them to advance 1/2 spellcasting. And also houseruled 1 PrC to be selected as an additional favored class

They also advance Bardic music (and grants some nifty class abilities).

Plus some nice fluff.

Muleback Cords, Heavyload Belt, Handy Haversack, Bag of Holding, the Ant Haul spell, the Floating Disk spell, the Lighten Object spell, Masterwork Backpack, Mithral, and Darkleaf Cloth all help with the Carrying Capacity issue.

Drop wisdom by 2 and put it in strength. Bard has good will saves, but your sword (4), armor (12.5) handy haversack (5), component pouch (2) and a dagger (1) will really eat at your 26 limit and will put you over it if the GM doesn't use the soft errata and 3.5 rule your clothes don't count against your encumbrance.

TLDR?

I'm tempted to take the Eldritch Heritage feat line with this character.

Perhaps Celestial for the fly speed @ Improved Eldritch Heritage.

Or Efreeti would work well giving me a +30 movement speed at Greater and the ability to use Giant Form 1 at Improved?

It would take a few feats: Skill Focus (feat tax) and the first level ability wouldn't be very useful, although a free ranged touch attack should never be scoffed at.

I'm pretty feat starved as it is with this build, do people think it's a good idea following this path?

The alternative is Scorching Weapons and Inner Flame which would give me a +1d6 damage on a swift action each round.
