Speak with Plants

Rules Questions

Last session my cleric did a speak with plants on a wall flower to ask if, and when, some one climed that wall.
Afther I casting the spell my DM decided that a plant didn't have a concept off time, i reasoned that a plant would know the difference between day and night, because off photosynthesis and stuff. Then my Dm decided that plants don't have a memory and it could not answere my question (or any other that had nothing to the direct suroundings at that moment). Knowing my Dm I didn't keap on pressing the matter, at the time.
I didn't agree with his ruling, (mostly because it would make the spell completly useless) but I'm not sure what they sould be capable off. What do you think?

I think you should never cast that spell again, as your GM's rulings make it useless. If plants had no memory, they couldn't "talk" at all.

I'm so tired, that I read speak with pants. Gota grab some coffee.

Your DM is wrong across the board. Plants don't sleep, so they would know everything in their surrounding including a guy that climbed the vines. Also, they can remember because of the spell, I'd say that they "gain" an Int score of 10 at most.

Technically, if you asked vines if someone climbed them, they should have answered "Yes", but they shouldn't have given you any other detail like its appearance or such.

So yeah, your DM was wrong and you were right...

Yeah, VRMH has the short of it. Don't ever use the spell again unless you can get your GM to change his/her ruling. Otherwise you can only use the spell to ask plants about their current state... and that's pretty effin' useless.

"Are you a plant?" "I am." "And are you... sitting there?" "I am." "...joy."

It sounds more like your DM's story may have been short-cut by your use of that spell. It's probably a better idea to talk to your DM (in private) about this maybe being the case. Arbitrary rulings like this will quickly degrade the campaign if s/he's using them to railroad a plot.

Because, clearly, you used the spell with the intent of its design.
