Yep. Havent even gotten to the opening ceramony yet and were already making an Ass out of it.
Please. At the Athens Olympics they hadn't even completed building some of the venues. This is one minor quibble that will be forgotten in a few months. Hardly "making an ass out of it". We have had a pretty successful buildup with one or two minor issues that's all.
Every Olympics goes through this. Remember the torch relay for China? Chaos. Yet people only remember Usain Bolt and David Phelps. By comparison this build up has been relatively smooth. Also remember that you are only seeing the few errors that are occurring and the British as a nation like to see the negative. Look at how successful the torch relay has been. Once it starts properly all this will be forgotten, mark my words.

Really? Not even that (sob) regime change back in '91 put an end to all that?

I would argue that the "stupid people" in this situation are the ones who are offended by a piece of cloth that represents arbitrary borders that their parents happened to have boned within.
Being proud of something you had no hand in is kind of stupid, as is being offended by that pride.
If you fought a revolution to free your country, go nuts, be proud, YOU did that.
If you just happened to be born in that country, that was a roll of the dice, not something you should be taking pride in.
It'd be like being proud of rolling a 20 on a D20.

The proud proletarian athletes of Pyongyang were raised in underground cities because the UN razed their country to the ground. They fought valiantly against constant imperialist encirclement and provocation for fifty years. They ate nothing but water and biopap fabricated from seaweed and braved having their dear leader mocked by billions of snotty-nosed South Park fans.
They are true heroes of the socialist fatherland and your comments are just pissing them off.
Vive le Bachuan!

This is pretty much to the core of why I won't die for my country. Call me what you will, I am not sufficiently impressed with the powers that be to lay down my life for them without really good reason.

Japan and Russia have territory disputes, but both were signatories on the peace treaties that officially ended the war.
No such treaties however were signed at the end of the active phase of the Korean conflict though. It's just that the superpowers behind the two proxies refused to back an active conflict any longer.

The Treaty of Peace with Japan (Treaty of San Francisco) was signed in 1951. The Soviet Union refused to sign it.
The Soviet Union and Japan subsequently signed a Joint Declaration ending the state of war between the two countries in 1956, which included provisions to further negotiate a peace treaty. They have never signed a peace treaty, largely due to territorial disputes, some of which go back to 1905 or earlier.
Russia is the legal successor to the Soviet Union for international matters.

Well. a joint declaration that the state of war is ended works for the purposes of this discussion. Did the 1951 treaty end United States rule of Japan?
Yeah, the distinction between the end of a state of war and a state of peace is probably only really meaningful to the international law types.
The 1951 Treaty of San Francisco ended the allied occupation of Japan, which had been conducted primarily by the US, but also by British Commonwealth forces. The treaty was signed in '51 and was ratified and came into force in '52. Japan returned to civil rule at that time, under a constitution that was largely written by occupation forces (primarily the US).
Concurrent with the end of occupation, Japan and the US signed a Security Pact, under which the US provides for the military protection of Japan and Japan provides for the stationing of US troops and military assets in Japan. That has since been replaced with the Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security (1960), which has been renewed with modification repeatedly since then.
