Has anyone tried this out? I'm playing a summoner (8th level currently) in the Curse of the Crimson Throne campaign and it seems like the high Charisma and modest ability to engage in melee of the summoner make it a decent choice for multiclassing to paladin. There are personal backstory and development reasons why going the paladin route with the Leadership feat might make sense for this character.
I am curious to hear your general thoughts or experiences on this. I also haven't multiclassed before in Pathfinder and don't know if it's generally considered a bad idea because you slow advancement in a single class.
Thanks!

One of the most fun I've ever had playing a character was a Halfling Paladin/Master Summoner (10/10). He got wings from Aspect on his eidolon (which he almost never used), wielded a bow and would summon a 'pack' of Lantern Archons with which to hunt evil. I used the Holy Tactician Archetype to give all my Lantern Archons the Target of Opportunity teamwork feat - between that and Hasten it was like a laser light show at times. Great character. Very effective.

Thanks. My character isn't a synthesist (the concept isn't to my liking, reminds me too much of the Power Rangers my daughter is hooked on!), just a regular summoner. But that +4 to all saves at 2nd level of paladin is mighty tempting. And, yep, I know my eidolon would stall out while I was taking levels in paladin.

Which is why you should consider a Master Summoner - eidolon's matter a lot less for them.

True, but already being 8th level, I'm not sure my GM will go for the switch. Plus, I wouldn't really have fun populating the grid with multiple monsters, it would slow down the game and get me dirty looks and people might not pass me the cheesy poofs.
I'm also a little too attached to the teamwork feats my character and eidolon have together (precise strike, outflank).

We had a player, paladin, who was seriously considering going multi-class synthesist, but didn't want to wait 5 levels to get wings.
I guess it comes down to what you want to play and how flexible your GM is. Will they let you trade some paladin abilities to advance your eidolon or vice versa? If it was all up to you, how would you set up this class combo? You're 8th level in summoner so maybe give up those future levels of pally magic to up yourself additional levels in eidolon (so your later levels in paladin wouldn't hinder your eidolon). Just some ideas.
EDIT: lol, just realize I misread your post and flipped your classes. I just changed my post to reflect this.

I think this is a terrible idea for a straight summoner. I mean don't you just go invisible and send in your Eidolon if you are at all afraid of being targeted by spells. Not saving at all is >>>> +3 or +4 to all saves.
Also you have UMD right, so pick up a wand of Bestow Grace of the Champion, and voila you get your charisma to your saves. Much less of a resource investment than multiclassing to Paladin.
