Beginner box campaign

Recruitment

Hi Everyone

I recently got the BB for christmas and GM for 2 groups but to be honest I cant get enough of this so I would be very interested in starting an online campaign with fellow Beginner Boxer's or experienced players looking for maybe a simpler game. I have never played an online campaign before but I am very interested I wouldnt mind playing with skype or just play by post whatever the group would be interested would be fine by me.

I would prefer to be a PC but don't mind been a GM if no one else is willing. If there is anyone interested in playing don't hesitate to post and also if there is anyone with tips and hints then that would be great also.

Thanks in advance THA

I'd be willing to GM a game for you.

sounds great have you had any ideas for a game :D hopefully we can get a few more people involved and we can have a game :P

I'd be interested in participating. I would suggest a pbp. However, you could easily do a combination of php and Skype or something of the like. For instance, every week or two I might be able to manage an hour or 2 on Skype.

This roll20 online table top looks really cool as well, and I'd like to try it sometime. However it is currently still in beta testing, and although you can sign up to participate for the beta test I'm not sure how easy it is to get access to. Check out the site:

roll20

I would be interested as well in playing in a PbP/PbB/PbF game of PFBB.

Best,
TB

I'd be interested in playing as a PC, let me know

I'd like to run a PbP game at first. I've never played online before so I'll be taking baby steps as a GM.

The game I'd run would be centered in Sandpoint, per the box.

From looking around at other PbP games here 4-6 players seems the optimal number with the expectation that everyone post at least once per day and some leeway given on weekends. If someone doesn't post for a time (say two days), I'll probably take over their character as a NPC until they show up again or, if the absence is too long, gracefully retire their character from the story and seek a replacement.

Would this be okay with you all?

Tippo this is perfectly fine with me I will definitely be able to post at least once per day.

P.H seems like that roll20 might be free but there is also maptools which as far as I am aware is completely free aswell it has tutorials on how to use it aswell.

Does anyone have any specific characters they fancy, there is also edowars blog that has a whole extra bunch of beginner characters on this is of course up to Tippo on what you want and don't want.

Im ready to get started when everyone else is.

Have room for another player? I started tabletop RPGs with Pathfinder about a year ago and since then have played lots of RPGs, I've played in a PBP before and should be able to post a few times a day except on weekends.

I can play if you're running it from the Paizo site.
Other sites might be blocked during the day.

I can post at least once per day.

I'm brand new to PFR (and the 3.5 mechanics) but I've been playing D&D since the late 70s.

So we have:

TheHairyAvenger, P.H. Dungeon, john doe 498, Aroach1188, Joba Tett, and Keith the Thief expressing interest. This falls within the range of 4-6 that we'd need so I'll try to get the ball rolling tonight. I need to figure out the mechanics of this board. Do I need to start a campaign thread?

My plan for the game:

As I said, I'm going to use the setting of Sandpoint as the focus of the game. I've a first scenario that sets up the party as a group of troubleshooters working for Sheriff Belor Hemlock (his militia can handle order within the town walls, but there are things in the surrounding countryside that need investigating). Sandpoint is described on page 88 of the Beginner Box Game Master's Guide. I'm not changing anything about it, though we'll be fleshing out the setting as we go (adding NPCs, businesses, etc.)

For the time being we're going to stick to the Beginner Box plus the online Paizo downloads for the ruleset. TheHairyAvenger linked to some extra classes that looked good, but I'm not including them for the time being. I'd rather err on the side of simplicity to start with. And I've no house rules to employ. If I feel the need to make one, I won't do it without discussing it first.

Finally, some notes about myself. I've been playing DnD since 1979, so I'm up there with Keith the Thief. I've been playing Pathfinder for two years now and I bought the beginner box to teach my son and his friends how to play.

Now, who all has the Beginner Box? If you don't, I, or anyone with one, can walk you through character creation.

Any questions? Suggestions?

I have the BB, and I have rolled-up two characters so far, so I'm getting the hang of it.

It'll be very interesting to see how skills, etc, are used in a real game.

I've always enjoyed playing thieves (rogues), but have no problem playing any class or race if it will help balance the party.

Thanks for giving this a shot, Tippo.
Keith

I have the pdf of the beginner box. I would recommend creating a campaign thread. You can use the the dice roller feature in the formatting options to post die rolls. invisiblecastle.com is another alternative for rolling die and posting the results, but it's probably easiest to use the one on this site.

I don't have a huge preference about character, so I'll just wait and see what other players want to make, and then try to come up with something to round out the party.

I have BB.

I fancy doing a cleric character if that's alright with everyone I will be able to get it done by tomorrow night at the latest so should I just post on here when he's all up and running?

I wouldn't mind playing any race/class. I usually play fighter or rogue, but wouldn't mind giving a caster a whirl if the class is needed...

I usually go by "The Bane"... hope I can change my display name.

Anyway, looking forward to it!

I don't have the BB, but I know the rules pretty well and can use the PRD if I need to. Are we just using BB classes or all of the CRB classes? Should I make my character on Myth Weavers and post it here? Since I don't have the BB, can I use the CRB info for classes? I usually play a Bard, but I'd play anything, even a Fighter(my least favorite(but not hated) class). And thank you for letting me join your game, I look forward to playing in it.

I wouldn't mind doing a pbp if you had the room (I see your up to 6 already). I should be able to post at least once a day. I have been table top gaming since AD&D. My biggest run was through 3.5 and I am currently involved in PFS every two weeks. I have most of the character books but do not have the box. Let me know if you are interested in another player. Thanks.

Sczarni

Let me correct a statement I made, I have played AD&D as my first table top and have gradually progressed into other editions. ;-)

John Doe: Somewhere in your user profile you can create

Jobba Tett: The Beginner Box is a streamlined version of the Pathfinder Core. They've limited the classes, races, skills, feats, etc. to make it easier for new players.

You can use the PFSRD to create a character, but we'll still have to tweak it to bring it in line with the Beginner Box rules.

Varrian: Join on in. I'll go to 7.

I'm going to create a campaign thread and I'll post a link here. I'll have you all go over there to work on characters.

The standard for generating ability scores for the BB is rolling them (4d6 drop the lowest). If we are using that method my rolls are:

4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 6, 1) = 144d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 5, 3) = 164d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 1, 4) = 134d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 5, 1) = 144d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 6, 2) = 154d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 3, 2) = 11

dropping the lowest, my results end up being 13, 13, 12, 13, 14, 9

If we are generating ability scores another way let me know.

Here's the link to the campaign.

P.H. That's how we're generating abilities, so you can use those rolls.

I plan to start off adhering to the BB rules, but as play goes on we'll probably adjust them to accommodate the needs of playing by post.

The rest of you, if you are still interested, post to the recuitment thread linked above. I'll have some more information late tonight there.
