I'm inviting respondents to this thread to join me here for an exploration of the town of Sandpoint and its surroundings.

Rules: The Hero's Handbook, Game Master's Guide, and the supporting material online.

Who: TheHairyAvenger, P.H. Dungeon, john doe 498, Aroach1188, Joba Tett, Keith the Thief, and Varrian Lunari.

Grand Lodge

Can you point me to the dice roller app?
It sounds like it's located somewhere on the Paizo site.
If so, I can post stats tomorrow morning.

One question, only BB classes or any class? Im experienced enough to make my own character

Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Keith: The Invisible Castle site lets you do online rolls and pace the results into a post. There are also tags under "How to format your text" that let you place rolls in a post, though I'm not sure how they'd do "roll 4d6, drop lowest".

Aroach: Just the BB classes (including the Barbarian from the web enhancement). I'm trying to keep it simple for this, my first foray into only GMing. I'll be posting more in a moment, but go ahead and make a character. If you don't have the BB, use the regular Pathfinder SRD and we'll change anything (feats, skills, etc.) that aren't in the BB rules. Fair enough?

Sczarni

I do not have the hero's hand book. What should I do? I have the core books but I know we aren't using those. The dice roller would be great also thanks.

Sczarni

Answered my question thanks

Sczarni

<a href="http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3522811/">4d6.takeHighest(3 )=12, 4d6.takeHighest(3)=11, 4d6.takeHighest(3)=18, 4d6.takeHighest(3)=11, 4d6.takeHighest(3)=15, 4d6.takeHighest(3)=11</a>

I think this is right?

Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

For the benefit of those who don't have the BB (Beginner Box) rules:

Character Creation Steps

1. Choose Race:

  • Dwarf
  • Elf
  • Human

2. Choose Class:

  • Barbarian
  • Cleric
  • Fighter
  • Rogue
  • Wizard

3. Roll Ability Scores:

  • 4d6, drop lowest dice; six times.
  • If your highest roll is 13 or under, or you ability bonuses added together are +3 under, roll them all again.
  • Assign to attributes as you wish.

4. Add Racial and Class Features

  • For those without the BB rules, I will let you know what these are.

Skills, Feats, and Gear follow in the next post...

Almost, but instead of the HTML format use the BBCode, so it will look like this:

4d6.takeHighest(3)=12, 4d6.takeHighest(3)=11, 4d6.takeHighest(3)=18, 4d6.takeHighest(3)=11, 4d6.takeHighest(3)=15, 4d6.takeHighest(3)=11

Sczarni

4d6.takeHighest(3)=12, 4d6.takeHighest(3)=11, 4d6.takeHighest(3)=18, 4d6.takeHighest(3)=11, 4d6.takeHighest(3)=15, 4d6.takeHighest(3)=11

Sczarni

Cool Thanks. Is that okay then?

Sczarni

I'll be a Human Barbarian

Before modifier

Str 18
Dex 15
Con 12
Int 11
Wis 11
Cha 11

I need the benefits for race and class from the hero's handbook. Thanks.

Character Creation Steps (continued)

4b. 1st Level Class Features:

Barbarian

  • Fortitude Save: +2, Reflex Save +0, Will Save +0
  • Hit Points: 12 + constitution bonus
  • Attack Bonus: +1
  • Skill Ranks: 4
  • Class Skills (+3 bonus for skill checks): Acrobatics, Climb, Knowledge Nature, Perception, Ride, and Swim
  • Armor and Weapons: You know how to use shields, light armor, medium armor, simple weapons, and martial weapons.
  • Rage: For a number of rounds per day equal to 4 + constitution bonus you can rage for: +2 to your attack rolls, +2 to melee and thrown weapon damage, +2 to Fortitude and Will saves, and +2 hit points. The drawbacks of raging are -2 to your Armor Class, can't use your Bluff, Diplomacy, Disable Device, or Knowledge skills, and at the end of your rage you are fatigued for twice the number of rounds you were raging.
  • +10 to your racial movement speed, negated by heavy armor.

Cleric

  • Fortitude Save: +2, Reflex Save +0, Will Save +2
  • Hit Points: 8 + constitution bonus
  • Attack Bonus: +0
  • Skill Ranks: 2
  • Class Skills (+3 bonus for skill checks): Diplomacy, Heal, Knowledge Arcana, Knowledge History, Knowledge Religion, Sense Motive, and Spellcraft.

  • Channel Energy: For 3 + charisma bonus times per day you can heal any living creature within 30 feet of where you are standing, giving them back 1d6 of lost hit points. Alternatively, you can damage undead creatures within the same range for 1d6 hit points.
  • Spells: You can cast 0 level and 1st level cleric spells. You can cast any number of 0 level spells per day. You can only cast one first level spell per day unless your wisdom is 13 or higher, then you get an extra spell. You have to prepare your 1st level spells in advance (your character pray an hour each morning and pick the spells to cast that day). 0 level spells do not require preparation. Spell lists will be provided further on.
  • Deity: Your cleric worships a specific god from whom you derive a holy weapon and two special powers. The gods are Desna (goddess of travelers, stars, and luck), Gorum (god of strength and battle), and Sarenrae (goddess of sun and healing).

Corrected.

A Human Wizard named Tamilius Zantamia

4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 5, 1) = 10
4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 2, 1) = 12
4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 4, 6) = 21
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 4, 6) = 12
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 2, 4) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 4, 3) = 13

Str=9(-1)
Dex=13(+1)
Con=12(+1)
Int=17(+3)
Wis=11(+0)
Cha=11(+0)

Ah, good scores.

Sczarni

So the Hero's Handbook doesn't give the characters the ability bonus per race like in the core book?

Also changing my stats to:

Dex 12
Con 15

Sczarni

I am going to switch Stats:

Dex to 12
Con to 15

Do the races not provide the stat bonus like in the core book?

Also do we get the bonuses for favored class? The 1 point to HP or Skill?

Thanks

I know feats are coming.

Also have a .pdf updatable character generator for PF if you would like it Tippo? We can all keep our characters on it and you could get a copy of all of our sheets. Let me know.

is this too late to join in?

Could someone post the Wizard class abilities? And the Wizard spells allowed? I don't need the detailed stats, just the names. Also need the list of feats and skills but I know that's coming up soon anyway. Are these items in the BB: Dagger, Belt Pouch and candle? Is my starting GP same as CRB?

Nice, I was also thinking of going with Thief. Note: Thief=Rogue and Mage and Magic-User=Wizard, I also play AD&D 2e so I use those class names too.

Wizard spells are:

Cantrips:
-Detect magic
-Ray of Frost
-Mage Hand
-Read Magic

For first level:
-Alarm,Detect secret doors and disguise self.

-Burning Hands, Cause Fear, Charm Person, Magic Missile, Sleep.

-Mage armor and Feather fall.

There is more on the free PDF that you can download from the Beginner Box Page under beginner box player pack.

Will Save:+2, Fortitude:+0, Reflex:+0, Hit Points:6, Attack Bonus:+0 and skill ranks:2.

Is that all you need or are you wanting anymore.

Im doing a cleric named Belethor Grimwood

4d6.takeHighest(3)=13, 4d6.takeHighest(3)=8, 4d6.takeHighest(3)=10, 4d6.takeHighest(3)=11, 4d6.takeHighest(3)=14, 4d6.takeHighest(3)=16

Do we need two rogues?

I can switch to a different class if need be.

No, see above, I went with Wizard.

Gotcha. Sorry. It's been a long morning.

Sczarni

We have seven people we could have two rogues.

So I am assuming we are using the race bonuses.

That would mean my stats are:
Str 18 (+2 Human)+20
Dex 12
Con 15
Int 11
Wis 11
Cha 11

Varrian Lunari wrote:

Yeah they are in the bb Ive used them aswell.

Joba wrote:

Dagger, Belt pouch and candle are in. Starting GP for a wizard in BB is 70GP.

Grand Lodge

TheHairyAvenger wrote:

....

BB has pre-set equipment lists for each class.
Using that, my PC has 28 gp leftover.

Starting money for each class per BB:

Cleric = 140 gp
Fighter = 175 gp
Rogue = 140 gp
Wizard = 70 gp

How many spells per day? And about cantrips, can I use all of them an unlimited amount of times? Do I get to choose my own equipment, or does the BB choose? If the 2nd, what do I get?

Joba Tett wrote:

Cantrips -- "Weak wizard spells you can use over and over again as much as you want, up to once per round" per Hero's Handbook.
* Detect Magic
* Mage Hand
* Ray of Frost
* Read Magic

1st-Level Wizard Spells -- Choose 3 + INT spells from page 29 of Hero's Handbook.
One spell per day if INT < 13
Two spells per day if INT >= 13
* Alarm
* Burning Hands
* Cause Fear
* Charm Person
* Detect Secret Doors
* Disguise Self
* Feather Fall
* Mage Armor
* Magic Missile
* Sleep

This is my character (TheHairyAvenger) I think Ive done this all correctly just thought I'd make it as an alias. Grateful if someone could check it over to be sure.

Oh and you can choose what you wanna buy, BB just gives suggestions that your character should have to make it simpler when you first start, Im guessing its easier if you just choose your stuff for the 70 gp limit then post and someone can say what's in and whats not but the BB has most of the necessities.

I'm going to switch Str(9) and Wis(11) scores, I also added my +2 to Int making it 19

What are my class skills? I know the class skills for the CRB Wizard. It would also be nice to know what skills are in the BB.

How did you create the alias?

And I may need some help understanding how the Skills system works.
That's been a stumbling block here at home.

Keith: Thanks for putting up the wizard stuff and all the other help you're giving.

Ye 'ol C-dog: Thank you for the interest, but we're full up for now. Would you like me to get in touch if a slot opens up?

Everybody:

I spaced on the racial bonuses last night, sorry. If you haven't already factored them in, Dwarves: +2 Constitution and Wisdom, -2 Charisma; Elves: +2 Intelligence and Dexterity, -2 Constitution; and Humans: +2 to ability of your choice.

Starting Gold: Clerics and Rogues - 140 GP, Fighter - 175 GP, Wizard - 70 GP; I can't find Starting Gold for Barbarian in the expansion so I'm going to rule 140 GP.

Also, Alignments: as per the book, no evil.

I am unusually busy at work today so i won't be able to post more until evening.

Joba wrote:

If you download the pregen characters on the beginner box page for free then you can get one with Ezren on and this has all the ones wizards are skilled in plus all the other skills.

Also, A list of the Wizard abilities would be nice. I know what CRB Wizard gets, but I don't know if in the BB I'd get Arcane Bond(Therefor a familiar), scribe scroll or anything else. I was going to get a Cat and call him Finbat.

Thank you for the idea.

Keith wrote:

If you go on my account then you can go on create new alias middle of the screen I think, then just enter your character details etc. Il warn you that it went weird on me when I was halfway through putting the character stuff on and I lost everything so either save often or do the bulk in word and copy in later.

Keith wrote:

What bits don't you get and il see if I can help I managed to get my head around it not long ago (I hope!!)

Well Arcane Bond is definitely there and it says with masterwork dagger, masterwork quarter staff, ring or wand. It doesn't say anything about Familiars or any other stuff. But I guess its up to Tippo in the end whether your allowed a Familiar. Finbat sounds awesome :D.

There are four Schools Universalist, Evocation, Illusion and Conjuration I do you need any info on those things.

My character is 99% finished, I just need to know if I can have a cat familiar, and if so, do I get the plus 3 stealth skill bonus? After I finish it, I'll post the myth weavers sheet link and post the character in text form too. I'll also make an alias as my character.

Looks like I am getting at this a bit late, but what do we have thus far for race/classes?

v/r
The Bane

Edit: Best I can gather...

Varrian - Human Barbarian
Joba - Human Wizard
Keith - Dwarven Rogue
THA - ? Cleric

Did I miss anyone?

I posted as the alias Belethor Grimwood he's a cleric character

Sczarni

THA is a Human Cleric. I'll post my character later. Let me know Tippo if you want that adjustable .pdf for everyone. It adjusts all the stats for you in certain areas. I'll PM my character to you to look over later. Thanks. I work a second shift job so a lot of my postings will be either before 1:30pm or after 11pm.

Now that I've seen what the other folks are up to. I think I'll be going with a straight up human fighter.
