Not entirely sure what happened there. I don't know if that was an intentional foot in mouth moment to sabotage the company or just plain old bigotry on display.

Hope you have fun here ^w^

Thank you for the warm welcome! *hugs*
I saw the TSR Twitter nonsense, and Gygax Jr’s rant. I suppose being out of touch is part of the inherited brand he wants to keep. It’s not surprising but it is really sad to see how much the hobby and the community has grown (in number, maturity, and inclusivity), and to see how hard some people cling to an imagined version of the world that is even less realistic than the worlds of magic we play these games in.

I did have a good conversation with Ernie and it looks like Justin LaNasa, his business partner, wants to chat with me because I have been open and respectful. I haven't accepted yet. If I do it, I'm going to lay down some ground rules, starting with: my existence is not up for debate and their aren't two sides of the discussion. There is acceptance and non-acceptance only. I will not budge on the validity of who I am.
I'm not sure if I want to do that yet. It will take a lot of emotional labor that I don't know if I have. However, I do have some friends who can help me out, One of my friends is very adept with this. She is not only a transgender lesbian gamer, but she is also an advocate and the head of the Gender Justice League of Washington State. She is always willing to provide me with resources. I don't want her to do my fighting for me. She has enough stuff to do. She has offered in the past to help me learn and to help me with teaching others.

Hope people are doing alright out there!
I'm struggling right now, but I'm powering through. Dysphoria is getting worse, not better. I'm at a loss as to how to deal with it.
On the plus side, I have been able to play Pathfinder 1E again and that makes me happy. I'm playing a build I threw up on the boards a few years ago. I never had the chance to actually play the character. I'm finding out that she's as much fun as I expected.

Tonight I had dinner with Shelly Baur (ex-wife of Wolfgang Baur, head of Kobold Press), Jeff Grubb (the guy who created the original Marvel Superheroes RPG and many other products), Kate Grubb (you might know her has Kate Novak, author of the Finder's Stone Trilogy and many Forgotten Realms products), Stan! Brown (cartoonist, author, and game designer, you may know him from his work with Owen KC Stephens from Rogue Genius games or from his work on d20 Modern), John Rateliff (writer and game designer, you may know his Return to the Keep on the Boarderlands and Reverse Dungeon for 2E AD&D), and Janice Coulter (author of Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play).
I've met several of them in the past at Jeff and Kate's place. They are all incredibly wonderful people. They were excited to see me even though it's been more than a year since I've seen any of them except Shelly (we hang out as often as possible).
Don't let anyone tell you that older gamers and designers can't keep up with the times. They are all amazing people.

So my last post was kind a of bleak. I am happy to say thing have happened that has turned my around. (Well not completely but I have more hope...and strength now.)
A friend came thru for me. Once a month I go over to his place in NYC and can just be me. His wife is also very great! And we were joined by his wife's friend who was also great. I am building up my confidence again! Going again this Thursday!
I also started play a App game...the app game is your average game, but the community is very great. I have made real connection with people there who are loving and supportive. I even started a discord group for the people there.
My problems are not gone...but good things are starting to happen too.

I think this is rather common. You are finding your tribe and it's hard severing ties and building a new tribe. You'll find that confidence and you'll do well. It just takes a little while.

So Owen KC Stephens used to live nearby. I became friends with him and his wife on Facebook. His wife invited me to their wedding anniversary and her birthday. I met up with Owen and LJ a few more times as he would travel to AFK Tavern in Everett, Wa to do demos for things he was working on, like Starfinder. He had get togethers at AFK and I would go because it's close by. He had a going away party when they were leaving Paizo and Washington. I met a bunch of great industry folks. Shelly Baur and I became friends through that.
She's been friends with the others for a very long time. Jeff and Kate celebrate the 4th of July with a tea party. Seriously. So Shelly invited me to join them. I ended up enjoying myself quite a bit and Kate invited me to join their Star Trek game, but it was using the Star Wars WEG engine. I played a few sessions, but the drive was too much for me so I had to drop out. My migraine makes it difficult to drive too long, especially in the dark.
Anyway, Shelly's birthday was on Monday and she invited me to dinner with everyone and I had to say yes! I really enjoy spending time with all of them. They are just good people.

When I was a younger, I wanted a Cabbage Patch Kid. I mentioned it once at the dinner table and I was quickly shot down. My parents made sure that I "understood" that they are for girls and it's not something I should be interested in. I tried to argue that they may be worth money later, but it didn't matter. I never brought it up again. This is just one of many things that reminded me of my place and pushed me further from myself.
I've told a few people about it and how it made me feel. One of my best friends bought one for me for my birthday and asked a mutual friend to make tiny pin that says "She/Her". Yes, I cried. I still tear up a bit right now. Her clothes are trans colors and the tissue in the box was trans colors.
My 50th birthday is on Friday.

So my counterpart on the other side of the store (we both handle scanning integrity at the moment) has a reusable cup and it had the sticker 'They/Them' on it.
And then I noticed that they had a pin on their badge lanyard that *also* said 'They/Them'.
So, being the curious sort of person who's been leaning he/him, they/them lately, inquired if that was the pronoun to use or if they'd prefer she/her.
And their response was "Either works for me, but you're the first person in six months that's even *bothered* to ask, so as long as you're not weird with it, thank you for showing the respect that no one else in the store could be bothered to consider."
And it was like this Woot kind of moment mixed in with an Ugh kind of moment.
Apparently the person who hired her (who's openly gay and has a real cool husband) made the assumption that my work counterpart had a 'partner' (a boyfriend) after the revelation of pronouns went from 'warm and sympathetic' to 'could barely get the time of day'. And that was the only other time that pronouns had come up.
They've also got the right perspective and they've progressed to the second interview/recruitment stage for a tech support gig that's work-from-home, so I hope they pull it off and leave our cesspit of retail inferno. :>

Did anyone else see the list of game companies that are too woke?
Don't read the thread. It's not good for your mental health. I think that the reason Mongoose Games is Yellow is enough to see that they just want to be horrible people.
"Mongoose Games Had a don't be a dick section in paranoia"
I'm glad that I spend my money in the Red and Yellow sections. The only Green companies I've bought from aren't openly hostile to BIPOC or LGBTQ folks.

I had to stop reading after the first page of bigotry-affirming circle-lovin' that they were engaging in.
Honestly surprised that the site doesn't have Terms of Service against that very sort of thing, and also surprised that someone hasn't taken action on it.
But the third time they circled around to 'My freedoms are more important than the well-being and safety of others' among other crap-tastic things that would cause lasting damage here...
It was really effin' subtle, but the server was effectively a recruiting ground for evangelical racist bigots.
Sure, they claimed they wanted 'only good ends' -- the only 'good ends' they had in mind were 'good for them' and no one else.
When asked how many were non-white on the server, the response was "That's not relevant". When asked how many were non-'Christian' "We pray for everyone to find the Right Way".
...I just wish I'd found out how horrible and toxic the place was before I recommended the fanfic (which was reasonably written) to friends and acquaintances.

I suspect I don’t even want to click on that link and give their site the traffic…
It will be exactly what you think it is: people who support bigotry are extolled and those who support inclusion are vilified.
Wei Ji, they are a "free speech" site so they support hate speech and are against anything positive that comes from free speech. They also don't think that there should be consequences for them to share their speech, but anyone who doesn't agree with them should suffer full negative consequences.
At one point in the discussion, someone was praising a particular designer who had created a game with darklings (a not very subtle allusion to black people) and gave them all penalties to their Charisma, Wisdom, and Intelligence scores because it was the right way to do it. Several pages later and someone pointing out how anti-Semitic that designer is (I'm not going to link to his Twitter feed) and this hate-filled monstrosity decided to support that too. It was the anti-Semitism that got him banned, not his racism.
This is what they had to say about Paizo:
"Paizo- Has whole pages in their books telling you how you must play there game and be inclusive. Harasses customers, aggressively moderates forums against anyone to the right of stalin, Retconned Golarion lore to be more inclusive, starfinder even had an adventure where you needed to get a professor at a university to apologize for being insensitive despite being factually correct. No lie, first adventure path. Another AP for Pathfinder showed all men as incompetent, read like a tumblr blog and all the women were super powerful and if you didnt bring the black, lesbian, disabled ranger with you then you automatically lost. Iron Gods or something like that."

"...don't be a dick section in paranoia"
I recall there being a humorous "don't be a dick" section in some other site back in the day, so I pasted it into a search engine to see what paranoia had to say on the subject. Needless to say, I got a few pages of dick paranoia unrelated to role playing games.
I paid a visit to Jacob Riis Park at Rockaway Beach last weekend, and it was amazing as always! I think I might try to get out there the weekend of the 18-19 if any Paizo folks want to meet up and catch some waves and rays before fall sets in.

I've headed over to read about the list and the following comments and I have been working a respond of what I though of that entire thing. Sadly, if I did post exactly what I though of that discussion, I would break too many rules of the forums.
So, instead, I will just say that I don't understand what they are complaining about. They are allowed to play the game however they want, even being total misogynist, racist, and all the other bad words, among themselves. It isn't as if the Paizo police is going to break down their front door and arrest them... sadly.
The only good thing about this is that I have now a list of Red companies to look into for new possible products to shop for.

Definitely don't engage. It's not worth your time. They are in an echo chamber and want to be victims. Engaging will only empower them. If it was a better forum I would say to engage just so that people (mostly lurkers) who aren't aware of what's happening can get some insight and make an informed decision. That can't happen on that forum though.

It's been ages since I posted in here.
I was going to get the sorgery this year!
But then pandemic happened.
Next year maybe? :I
I often despair about ever being able to get surgery. Stay strong!
On another note, I just want to briefly vent in a place where I don't get debated by transphobes.
A thing that really sucks about stuff like the current paizo controversy is that every time it happens, us trans people have to deal with all of the shitty people coming out of the woodwork to debate our existence. It's so exhausting that we can't even call out transphobia without having to also argue with people about whether we exist or not.
Well, that's my vent. Love and hugs, especially to anyone else feeling drained and frustrated by this stuff.
