The eastern-most end of Jacob Riis Park is the LGBT area, and also an area where people play club/disco music, and show lots of skin. When I was there earlier this week, an impromptu dance to the Cha Cha Slide broke out among over a dozen people in various states of (un)dress. It is basically like the super cool, 100% inclusive party that never existed in the suburbs, but now happens every nice day. But this weekend should be extra special!

You didn't know that was the clothing optional part of the beach? Everyone knows that!

I read this as “Beef Wellington,” which was exciting. But approval for sorgery is even more exciting!

I'll probably ride my bike from Grand Central around 11am, and get to the beach around 2. If anyone would like to join me, or meet up there, post here or pm me. Or just show up! It really is amazing!

EDIT: You can drive, ride, take the subway, or a ferry from Manhattan or Brooklyn. There might be a parking fee (I don't know) but the beach is free in every sense of the word!

Freehold DM and I are in. I am going to PM you for contact info.

For the last few years my mother in law has been sliding further and further into dementia. She's had several strokes, lost most of her teeth, suffers many health problems from poor nutrition and was declared legally blind last year. She has become quite heated and nasty in her dealings with my wife. Thats left me doing most of the doctor visits, dealing with finances and making sure the house is clean.

It all came to a head a month or so ago and the last few weeks (quite apart from the paizo sadness) have involved going through the process of having her medically and legally assessed as incapable of managing her affairs. The whole time with her doing her level best to sabotage and impede any diagnosis.

People keep ringing me to helpfully let me know that shes saying awful things about me stealing her money, refusing to take her to the doctor and trying to lock her up. They all hasten to tell me they dont believe her and its motivated by empathy. But its really not a conversation I enjoy having over and over.

Usually paizo would be my refuge but I've found myself lost for anywhere thats fun. If it weren't a few actual play podcasts to keep me going I'd have done very little smiling in the last year or two. (My wife is also flat out with Covid as medical head of our regional hospitals).

I'm really hoping to see change at the company but I'll be frank - nothing is particularly giving me hope at the moment.

I dont really have a point. Im hoping it will just help to type it out....and that this far down the boards will hopefully sail by with little notice. :/

I...am afraid I will be in a similar situation to you before long. My dad had his wife and my numerous siblings in the area kinda looking out for him, resulting in more misadventures as opposed to tragedies up until the day he passed. Mom? Nope, it's just me. And she's already getting forgetful and is getting increasingly defensive. Later on I could easily see her doing something, particularly something financially(she's already going the televangelist route), that I will HAVE to stop and will get VERY ugly. I'm so sorry. But you are not alone. Use your network to make sure your mom has the semblance of freedom even though you are watching over everything. Give her small tasks to do to help you help her- having something to do that feels like a real project can make things a lot smoother. And you really don't have to explain yourself to concerned parties, as you have nothing to be ashamed of or even worried about on your end. I have found that the old "yes, mom is having memory issues" line without further detail helps to calm a lot of people without telling the story all over again.

And in case anyone is wondering, ALL THE FREEHOLD LEGENDS ARE TRUE! Even the ones that contradict the other ones! I don't know what he said or if it was just him (and Celestial Healer) being there, but the locals loved him! I can't list most of the comments here("Tell your friend, he's super hot!", and an offer or two!) but he was quite the hit!

The only problem was the day was too short. Next time we need more time, and more Paizo people there! I also need some mirror sunglasses - as mentioned, there was a lot to see at the beach!

I can't think you both enough for coming! After a long time online, you are the first Paizo people I met in person, and it really was great! We have to do this again soon!

EDIT: And don't feel like you need me to invite you to the beach! There is always a welcoming, super inclusive, and super cool party going on at the east end of Jacob Riis. Everyone is always welcome there!

I TOLD YOU firing up the cunniligus signal would reap great rewards- even though this would be...well...quite the opposite of that! Still I am flattered! Maybe I should make a shirt?

Waitaminute- we were the first people you met? I thought you met a few others! In that case I must apologize for firing up the signal too early, that usually reserved for a third group meeting or so!

Not sure really, it was hard to figure out what that site was even saying it was so … bizarre …

I mainly reacted to the part about Kobold Press making people pay for the privilege of writing for the company, only paying 1 cent a word, those types of things. There was just a lot of laughable if they weren’t insane, assertions …

The court granted my wife and I a full scope, unlimited administrative order over my mother in law's affairs today. Its been weighing heavily on us during the last couple of months. That's one massive source of stress removed.

Sadly, the other is resolving in the other direction. It seems more and more that the community paizo has spent years fostering is no longer of value to them. I used to come here multiple times every day. Now it feels like a perky, but empty, corporatised version of what it was. Loss of community is an event worth acknowledging.

I'm casting about for other gaming communities to call home but I've been spoiled by paizo's content - both quality and quantity. Maybe its time to hang up my dice.

I don't engage with the trolls who don't feel like I deserve to be treated like a human. That's their problem. They don't define who I am. They are defining who they are. That's on them. My actions, my morals, and my ethics define who I am. Steve, yours define who you are. From the interactions I have had with you, you are an amazing person and I am glad to have you here.

Thanks, Cindy but fwiw I don't really feel bad about it - I'm pretty comfortable identifying the culture here as having changed, not me.

It's sad to see though.

My favorite queer tabletop is still Dream Askew, if we’re sounding off; it’s a diceless, GMless game about a queer community in the psychic post-apocalypse. It basically plays like a fascinating character drama! Every class has a list of genders you choose from - and only one of them, the new Arrival, has access to “man” and “woman.”

Profanity Filtering

I'm having concerns that this could creep over into blocking terms usable in the QUILTBAG+ community.

Is this a valid concern?

I don't particularly think it is, and if it becomes an issue, we can raise it as one.

Aside from my PBP games, this is the only thread I read from the Paizo forums.

I mean, I used to read all the blogs and a lot of the posts and discussions when Pathfinder started, but over time the forums felt less and less friendly. This is the only place where I find that same old feeling from the early days.

I've only learned of what is going on with the unionization of the Paizo employees and the firing of the customer services people because it showed up in my news feed.

I think it will swing back and maybe not too long from now. I feel the Union thing will liberate energies that will flow in the direction people in this thread wish. So that Paizo really and more strongly becomes the company we want them to be. It is the way of the future IMO.

I know other people have said this, but I admire your ability to not just flip out on them after days and days of this nonsense. I can barely make it through 20 minutes of one guy's determined concern trolling before I have to choose between logging off for the rest of the day or posting something ban-worthy.

I don't post in here very often, but I started seeing a therapist for the first time in, I don't know, 10+ years? Had a lot of bad experiences but seems I lucked out this time. Working through a lot of internalized shame and guilt. Feels more uplifting than it sounds.

Hey everyone! It's been a bit since I posted, not because I haven't been here but because I don't really say much unless I have something to say. I noticed people saying the forums on Paizo have been less friendly, and I figured I should let everyone know if they dont that there are a whole bunch of really great Pathfinder communities on Discord! I'd especially recommend the server for Dice Will Roll (which is also a really great Pathfinder podcast), its very queer and friendly. :)
Since I've last posted, I have been Unraveling the secrets of the universe itself majoring in physics and having a great time with it! Also been running some Pathfinder games for some new college friends. :)
*Hugs for anyone who wants*
