EDIT: The real question is: Would you allow this in your own game?
What I'm planning on doing with my Witch is having him make a collar for his familiar that has the continuous effect of bestowing Anthropomorphic Animal on the fox, then having some help from another party member to train the fox as a (adorable, but awesome) ninja.
Also, at the lowest level I could pull this off (level 5), the familiar's intelligence is 8 (or possibly 9 with the Anthropomorphic Animal spell, it boosts animals that have 1-2 INT to 3 INT)
In your honest opinion would it be possible and/or legit?
I also have a couple of other questions that tie into the first one:
- When an animal is affected by Anthropomorphic Animal and it has ranks in Linguistics, can it speak more than one language?
- Can a familiar gain experience in any way? (Like a PC, cohort, etc.)
- A fox standing on it's hind legs could easily stand 3 feet tall could it classify as a Small sized humanoid with the Anthropomorphic Animal spell? It'd be about the size, if a tad smaller, than a Gnome.

I think I may have put this in the wrong section.... >.>;;
But anyways, the gist of it is that the familiar would be definitely smart enough to gain a class level. If that's not possible I also have the Beast Bonded Archetype for my Witch so I could give my familiar feats in order for it to use weapons and armor, but I'd be more economic for the familiar to gain class levels.
(I'm trying to figure out how to twink/cheese/make awesome my familiar as much as possible.)
I think that using AA on the familiar would break the familiar effect. In any event, you are in house rules territory.
And they can't gain class levels without the GM's permission.
But most importantly, you can't use AA on a familiar. The spell requires animal type. Familiars are magical beasts.
Yeah, your right... I noticed that too far into my planning. >.< I was kinda asking the community if they'd allow it in their own games as a homebrew rule before asking my own GM.

Ok, here is a way to house-rule it: Your fox animal companion falls in love with an actual fox. Since your animal companion has human intelligence, he becomes depressed because he can not share his thoughts with his lady-love, so you contract a druid to cast Awakening on her. Once awakened, your animal companion's lady-love expresses her desire to become a ninja, so you cast Anthropomorphic Animal on her and contract a wizard or sorcerer to cast permanency on her. You acquire the Leadership feat, and recruit her as your cohort.

A creature is its size no matter whether it is bipedal or quadrupedal. So, no, it would still be a tiny animal. But you could start with a fox which has the Giant template, and then it would start off small. It would have to be a different fox from your familiar, though. Or your GM could create a back story about why, when your familiar left your service, it somehow grew to extraordinary size before you met it again.

Well, having a Tiny ninja could be fun. I think that my train of thought on this subject has reached two/three conclusions:
1. Anthro Animal does work on my familiar (The patron /is/ Transformation, so the patron would probably be all for transforming the familiar)
1a. It works but I can't train it as a ninja, obtain cool familiar.
2. I first gain a new familiar, keep the old one, pay a Druid to cast Awaken on it. Then give it a collar with constant Anthro Animal on it. (It's still has an animal type after it's awakened yes?)
Conclusion: The cutest Ninja ever.
Well, I'll have to bring it up with my GM before I can do anything. Thanks a bunch!

dragon empire Kitsune Ninja Cohort. If you want it smaller, cast reduce person and permenancy on it.
Edit: Though you would need to be 7th level to get the cohort, you could perhaps hire the Kitsune as a trained hireling (3sp per day) and then later cohort him with the Leadership feet.
no real need for house rules
