Since getting Distant Worlds, I've tossing around the idea of building a 20th level character and taking her to the sun. At least once.
So far from what I've gathered, one of the easiest ways to do that is with at least 6 levels of druid and thus the ability to wild shape into a fire elemental. Now since such a wild shape would presumably begin before going to the sun and end after leaving, would equipment be affected?
I think since it would be melded into the druid's body for the duration of the wild shape that no, it wouldn't be exposed to the sun and would thus be safe.
...Looking for confirmation on that, but I get the worrying feeling that the rules are rather lacking on the subject of swimming around in the sun for no reason other than "because I can", and that this'll be up to GM discretion.

Odd as it is you only get resist 20 form being a fire elemental.
So swiming in the sun might be a bad move.

As per Distant Worlds, anything native to the plane of fire is (for unknown reasons) immune to the dangers of the sun, gravity and fire-wise. It cites turning into a fire elemental as the most common method spellcasters use to visit the sun.
(The description is that swimming in the sun for them is like swimming in the sea for aquatic creatures)

A human for example is not native to the plane of fire even while wild shaped.
EDIT: sorry missed the part where it says "turning into a fire elemental as the most common method spellcasters use to visit the sun"
I wouldn't think this would work...
