Critical Hit Damage

Check me on this, according to pure RAW:

Your weapon's damage dice are rolled twice (for x2 weapons) and ALL your bonuses are doubled.

Core Book & PF SRD wrote:
...with all your usual bonuses...

.

A So your STR damage is doubled. (It's called a "bonus" in the book.)
B Your Weapon Specialization Feat damage is doubled. (It's called a "bonus" in the book.)
C Your Power Attack Feat damage is doubled. (It's called a "bonus" in the book.)
D Your Overhand Chop, 2-Weapon Ftr Archetype damage is doubled. (It's called a "bonus" in the book.)
E Your Favored Enemy damage is doubled. (It's called a "bonus" in the book.)
F Your Smite Evil damage is doubled. (It's called a "bonus" in the book.)

Etc.

So....
Ran-1 / Pal-4 / Ftr-4, Greatsword Critical Hit:

4d6 damage
A +12 (18 STR = +4/+2, doubled)
B +4 (Weapon Spec +2, doubled)
C +12 (Power Attack BAB=9 = +6, doubled)
D +4 (Overhand Chop=double STR not 1 1/2 STR,... +2, doubled) {1}
E +4 (Fav Enemy (Undead) = +2, doubled)
F +16 (Smite (Undead)=Double Pal Lvl = +8, doubled) {2}

So all totaled:
4d6 + 54

.
.
.
{1} Overhand Chop: The regular STR has already been done at 1-&-half so this Archetype bonus only adds 2 more (then doubled). +4 STR is usually +6 and that is already doubled in A. So the Overhand Chop only gives 2 more (then doubled).

{2} Smite Evil: Damage is equal to Pally Lvl (4 in this case) or DOUBLE Pally Lvl if vs Undead, Evil Dragons or Outsiders. So the example is 4 + 4, doubled.

Yes, all of your numerical non-dice bonuses to damage are doubled (or whatever the multiplier is) unless they specifically say they are not. Which I don't think any are, tbh.

A) +6 * 2 = 12, right
B) Yes
C) At BAB 9, your power attack will be -3 / +6 base. Two-handing it turns it to be +9 damage, so C's damage should be +18.
D) Only applies on an attack action, not on an iterative attack. There's debate on this one (that I haven't seen a resolution to, but there might be one), so let's just say you have it right.
E) Yep
F) What kirth said.

So you are about 4d6+56 I think.

F. Remember that a doubled double is a triple, in the RAW, which implies that double paladin level (4x2=8) would become triple paladin level (4x3=12, not 16).

@ Cheapy,
D... Yes, this example assumes that the PC is doing one attack -- not all of them.

@ Kirth,
F... I am not aware of this. I will correct my PC but can you or someone please give me a page number in the Core Book where I can look it up and have for reference?

Check out Multiplying here. Page 12 of the 5th printing of the CRB. Righthand column.

See also Multiplying Damage: "Note: When you multiply damage more than once, each multiplier works off the original, unmultiplied damage. So if you are asked to double the damage twice, the end result is three times the normal damage."

How 'bout...

G
A +2 Enhancement bonus to the Weapon gives +2 damage or +4 on a Crit (x2 Weapon).

Yes?

Grand Lodge

(Actual game situation):

My PC, SAMHAIN AQUALUNG TULL
Pal-8 / Ran-1 / Ftr-4 / Inq-2 (w/ 26 STR and a +2 weapon with all the other stuff from the example)

I made a chart for my attacks, a line for each: reg attack, smite, smite vs Fav Enemy, smite w/ Power Attack, reg attack w/ Power Attack, reg attack vs Fav Enemy, etc., etc. So I don't have to do math in-game. I think 16 lines total.

I finally got a full attack on a Marilith (so no Overhand Chop) and got two hits plus a Crit!!! Killed her right there, opening round. And the DM asked where my bonuses came from and I went to my lists and the scribbled math for it but there was some question on some of those bonuses. We ended up taking some of those bonuses away and I rerolled and STILL killed her.

But I wanted to go back over everything and make sure I'm correct w/ all my "i's" dotted and "t's" crossed.

I see I have to change my Smite Critical Hit lines vs Undead, Evil Outsiders & Dragons; thanks ALOT Kirth :(
(I hate RAW)

Yes. Read the link provided. You multiply everything except bonus dice (e.g., sneak attack, flaming damage, Vital Strike, etc.).

W E Ray, I just want to point out that your character's name is ridiculous...ly awesome.

I don't think you need the hyphen there. But don't worry; I do that a-lot.

Okay, I'm going back over F and I'm hoping the Multiplying Damage RAW does not affect my Smite.

Paladin Smite Evil:
You do 1 point of damage per Pally Level.
You do 2 points of damage per Pally Level vs Evil Outsiders, Undead & Evil Dragons.

When you get a Critical Hit you deal double damage. So this would be double the 2 points per Pally level. Yes?....

The Pally Smite Evil rule says 2 points per Level -- it does NOT say 1 point per Level, Doubled. (in which case the Double-Damage from a Crit would go to 3X)

So the Multiplying Damage RAW does not apply!

Right?....

Looks good to me.

Smite Evil (Su): "If the target of smite evil is an outsider with the evil subtype, an evil-aligned dragon, or an undead creature, the bonus to damage on the first successful attack increases to 2 points of damage per level the paladin possesses."

No mention of doubling.

(Also note this is only on the first successful attack, not every attack)

I'd allow it.
