One of our party members (an NPC, but may as well be a party member) was off on a task of her own and her ship was sunk. Long story short she ended up marooned on a desert island.
We have managed to scry her and see her, but we have not yet been able to communicated with her.
Is there any way to find out where she is marooned? I've browsed the available spells but nothing jumped out at me.
The first answer was greater teleport, but I am 7th Level so would have a long way to go for that kind of power and mages of that level are few and far between.
Any suggestions on how we might find where she is located?

Do you have the Sending spell? It works over any distance and you can ASK her if she knows roughly where she is at in the world, which can then allow you to tighten your search.
Find the Path and Locate Object are also possibilites to enable faster means of location. Find the Path should be able to to use the island she is on as the target or her encampment on the island. While it does not last a huge amount of time it can definately be usefull to navigate a vessel to her. While it is 6th level, you might be able to afford some scrolls and use them as needed to adjust your course while sailing.
If she has any items with her you can use Locate Object to find it once your on the island to speed up locating her. She just needs to show it to you in the scry and then set it down so it is unattended.
Use the Sending spell to coordinate. It should be 4th level for you?
... or you could have her kill herself, then pay for true resurrection and hope it works.
I would dare say if they can find someone to cast True Ressurection and can afford it then they could probably get a Greater Teleport caster. I have to assume it is easier to hire 13th level mage then a 17th level Cleric. Not to mention that Teleport does not require an extremely pricey spell component like True Ressurection does.

What kind of mage are you, btw?
I am a stright Wizard/Conjuration Spec.
We have a dececnt idea where she is in terms of world geography but that general idea still covers a whole lot of space so the KS-Geography Skills is not going to narrow it down enough to actually go find her. I mean, she is somewhere between a northern and southern continent. Has to be further South as it's tropical.
The island is VERY small, like 50 sq yards so there is little to no chance it's on any known chart.
Just from an RP perspective, no way I am going to ask her to kill herself and we hope a resurection works. That way to extreme from an RP perspective.
Find the path si looking like the best option at this point. There is the whole problem with the Undead Kraken who is sinking ships in the area where we know her ship went down.
Maybe I can rent a magic carpet or something.

If you have a druid or a ranger in the party (or can hire one) you might try speak with animals once you get closer to the general area. Seabirds and migrating birds might well have a reasonable idea of where to find small islands, and they may have seen her or her ship. So might animals like dolphins.

Do you have a Cleric or Oracle in the party of your level? They should be able to use Sending since you cannot (sorry I forgot that it is a level higher for Arcanes).
Are there any temples of Gods of Travel, the Sea, Hunters or Prophesy nearby? All of them may be able to give you suggestions or perhaps provide specialists you can hire to aid in this endevour as well.
Perhaps the group pledges aid in a future endevour for aid in finding and retrieving your friend?
Also, and I know this is a real longshot, does your group have a Ring of Spell Storing or an Ioun Stone that can store a spell? If so, you can use the above suggested Scrolls of Find the Path to cast the spell into the ring or stone and then let a ships captain use the spell. That should enable him to plot a much more accurate course should you take that approach to finding your friend.

This is where you get NPC's who are expert at navigating by the stars into play.(i.e. a master sailor or an astronomer(a profession which dates back well before the midieval period) If you have the time and communication and the coordination by observation and the help of said NPC, you can work out the position of the island she's on.

so you still don't have sending... Any metamagic feats or traits I should know about?
Nope, nothing of any consequence. My group are "traditionalist" for the most part and this is our second campaign into Pathfinder. We want to see how the core ruleset balances before we introduce any of the splat books, additional classes, etc...
Sorry, a bit off topic.....
I have used a scry spell (had someone else cast it as I do not have) to see her on a very small desert island. I do not have Sending in my book yet nor do I think I am going to be able to find it anytime soon.
We know she was on a ship traveling from the Northern continent to the Souther Continent and that ship was attacked and sunk by an Undead Kraken. Not sure exactly where the ship was attacked but I may be able to find that out.
Based on all this information I have a decent idea the general area she may be in.
Due to the undead Kraken issue I don't think sailing around on a ship is feasable, or at least not a very good idea.
Thanks for all the ideas!

You may also be on a time limit. 50 sq yards is tiny. What is her food and water supply like? How is she surviving?
Find the path might be your best bet.

Prepare locate creature a bunch of times, use it to set the ship you hire/commondeer's heading. Rinse and repeat as needed.

Sorry, to answer one of the other questions, yes, we havea cleric in the party. We also have access to several temples with high level clerics. That is where we had someone scry our lost mage.
No on the items you mentioned. We are not exactly swimming in items. I'm a level 7 mage without a ring yet =(
We may actually have some downtime coming so I guess I am going to try and hunt down a mage who can G-Teleport and who might be willing to help me.

Well, the island has to have some sort of freah water for the palm trees to grow. We actually did not know she was lost unill a couple of months had passed. Based on our scrying she seems to be doing ok.
Our guess is she tosses lightning bolts into the water and collects the fish that float to the surface =)

Ok then your party cleric can cast Sending. It is only a 4th level spell for Clerics and if he is 7th level as well he can do it. That at least can get you limited communication with your lost friend and give her some hope and perhaps she can give you some idea's of where she is.
In any event being able to communicate will be a good RP point. People alone for long periods can lose it, letting her know she is not forgotten, that your making efforts to find her and giving her even a tiny ability to communicate can make a huge difference.

7th-level conjurer, eh? Try using lesser planar binding and conjuring an air elemental (or, at your preference, some other high-speed flier). "Go to Sea X and search the smaller islands there for signs of habitation. Search the inhabited islands for [description of Character X]. When you have found her, return here and lead us to her island."

I didnt mean to use it to find your lost party member food, i meant to use it to find your lost party member.
Assuming you can find a way past the kraken to get a ship to her (or a flying carpet or something else), use the spell locate creature to get periodic reads (it determines the direction from you a known creature such as your party member is in) on which direction you need to be going to get to them. Keep doing this till you reach them.
