Verbal spell question

Rules Questions

Can a verbal only spell be ditinguished from simply talking? For example if a sorcerer was being arrested by a city guard could she pretend to surrender and then cast suggestion (a verbal only spell)? Would he immediately realize a spell was being cast and get to roll initiative?

Well casting requires a strong, solid voice. If the person were giving a speech, unless it has a visible effect, probably not unless they make their will save. In conversation, yes, they probably would. That's how I'd run it, anyway.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I am fairly certain that the verbal component is tied to the spell specifically, and that the intent is that you're saying arcane gibberish.

You cannot easily mask your spells as speaking.

Maybe a home researched spell?

There's always Spellsong feat!

This is why you have should have a positive dex score and improved initiative (and the reacionary trait). If you beat him to the punch, it doesn't matter if he figures out what you did.
