Yikes! I Rolled Horribly!

Advice

Taking the other side of a common argument, I'd be interested in learning what classes you all would choose to play if you rolled on the low side of things.

For our purposes, assume your rolled scores were:

10, 11, 9, 8, 12, 10

What class would you like to play, and why?

Grand Lodge

Cleric. Armor up and use my spells.

Human fighter:

STR 14 (12+2)
DEX 10
CON 11
INT 9
WIS 10
CHA 8

Feats:
HD1 - Toughness
HMN - Iron Will
FBF - Weapon Focus (whatever)

I'll have enough armor to compensate for the lack of DEX (might go sword-and-board), bump CON at HD4 and have up to 3 skill ranks per level.

Complete skill monkey. By 6th level, your ability scores will feel less relevant as you shout over them with skill points. Nobody expects you to fight or cast, so you don't need those abilities. Saves and AC might hurt, but you can play smarter.

Dark Archive

summoner (alt for +2 will save)

Str: 8
Dex: 10
Con: 11
Int: 9
Wis: 10
Chr: 14
favored class bonus: 1/4 evolution point
1st level feat: extra evolution
3rd: focus: conjuration
5th: extra evolution
7th: augment summon

Spam the field and buff. Your Eidilon is unaffected by your stats, so just make him a machine of destruction. Send him some friends with summon spells.

In my experience, everyone is expected to contribute to combat.

That said, I echo Thalin's suggestion of summoner.

Synthegist (if I understand them now), Wizard (rely on non-DC spells like buffs/no saves), Cleric/Oracle (rely on non-DC spells like buffs/no saves), or Alchemist (touch attack bombs, take extra bombs as a feat)

I echo the suggestion of summoner. If you want to more than be a buffbot in the back, look at synthesist (you basically wear your eidolon), but base summoner is going to be better mechanically.

Beg for a reroll because the sum of my modifiers are negative (and thus worse than NPC stats)? (:

The "best bet" would be a buff bot that doesn't care much about ability scores. Summoner is a good choice -- gnome bard is workable as well. Actually a buff-focused wizard/sorcerer/witch would also work.

I'd play an Aristocrat and use my money to buy an entourage.

Definitely a caster type, particularly druid or wizard/sorcerer. With the right race you can achieve a 14 in your casting stat, and have that up to a reasonable level by the time it becomes relevant. Druids, Wizard, and Sorcerers have the easiest time building spell lists out of no-save combat contributions, though it's not impossible with a buff based cleric/oracle or witch. Summoner or alchemist are also good options, but the alchemist is likely to struggle none-the-less.

At that point id pick an NPC class and aim to die gloriously.

The Exchange

No way! Play the world's most inept barbarian. "Well, I was a shipping clerk originally. Then one day I woke up and realized that I HATE PAPERWORK! GEEEAAAAGH!"

You'll die soon, but at least you'll be memorable. ;)

Sczarni

Cavalier. Let the horse do all the melee'ing. If that doesn't work, you can always charge straight into the breach and get yourself killed so you can reroll a new character.

He shall be named.... Bill.

In ye olde days, I probably would have played a cleric. Heck, in 1E AD&D, 12 Wis is enough for a bonus spell, isn't it?

Nowadays, I almost always play with point buy systems. Or, on occasion, using ridiculously generous rolling systems.

Tell your group to start using non-random ways of getting abilities.

A dwarven cleric.

Just go with something you always wanted to play but never had a chance. Place the stats as needed. Then consider this as a good opportunity to role play.

The reincarnated Druid. I may day weekly but ill be back for more and more and more.

I'd actually second fighter or barbarian. With a 2h weapon, power attack, weapon spec and weapon training (or rage) you can contribute in a fight. Take a lance and a mount if you have the cash.

A mounted barbarian with power attack, a mount and lance will deal 1d8+9 times 2 on a charge, so roughly 27 damage. You could certainly do a lot worse. This damage will spike as your BAB improves, and you could start taking fighter levels for weapon spec (take the extra rage feat)

You'll be very squishy, but your str will be your only asset. May as well crank it up to 18.

Alternatively I'd agree with the wizard suggestion. Perhaps you could craft a few wondrous items to help your stats?

Scratch that. Play this. Be sure to wear red.

Depending on gaming style this might work, low ability scores can make for awesome characters, overcoming inherent weakness in character by clever or inventive play can be extremely rewarding and makes you more inclined to roleplay.

Personally as a GM I would consider the ability scores too low though, in 3.5 it was a rule you were allowed to reroll these scores since the total modifers are negative and you do not have at least a 13.

Lately I have been using rolled scores, but defaulting to pointbuy using those scores as a starting point if they are below the point buy value.
the modified point value of those scores is +0, depending on dice roll method I would give 10, 15 or 20 additional points to buy higher scores.

Mechanically a summoner synthesist has few requirements to be effective, a synthesist should work quite well, you might be average Joe with limited ability except for your connection to a powerful entity passed down through your family's blood, which might make for a nice character background, Gms tend to like hooks like this they can use in their campaign to more directly involve characters.

Seinor vorpal badasso. Spend mad ranks on UMD. Get as many familiars as possible. (Witch,Wizard,Summoner, ect) Give them all UMD. Be the most baddass wand wielder to ever live. Spend all your money on caster level 5 wands of magic missile. Have the best saves ever despite having crummy stats. PROFIT and wait to die and have your wands absorbed by party wealth.

Play a halfling rogue with the childlike trait and make the party protect you.

Take Leadership at level 7 and play that character primarily.

Summoner. You don't need the big stat to be able to cast (16 Cha gets you the ability to cast all your spells), and you have a big fighting machine to go into combat for you.

I would probably go gnome, or maybe halfling. Get the Cha boost with either a Dex or Con boost secondary.

I would suggest summoner as well, though with DM approval I would pick the Aasimar race for +2 wis/+2 cha (So you don't take a hit to other stats) and get nice energy resists and darkvision.

Just my 2cp's!

Some of the most memorable characters are the runts and misfits who manage to survive and prosper.

Play a halfling summoner with the Childlike feat, and go with a biped eidolon who you call Butler.
