I tend to play humans, for their flexibility in terms of both rules and background. But I quite like gnomes, in part because everyone seems to have a different take on them; it's fun to see what each iteration of D&D/Pathfinder has done with them, and playing one tends to feel like an opportunity to really make your mark on how your group sees gnomes in general.

Depends on the setting. In the old Forgotten Realms books (the setting all my GMs run) there were extra rules on Tieflings. In Golarion there is a free download that covers everything you'll ever want to know about Tieflings (as well as some extra rules).

Planetouched in general, really. And half-orcs. I like to subvert and otherwise futz around with stereotypes, though.

Mechanics wise I love my half-orcs. Medium, 30 ft speed, darkvision, +1 to all saves, and free proficiency in some good 2-handers.

For pure roleplaying I love gnomes. They're all pretty much certifiably insane, so zany antics are expected.

I tend toward Elf myself.
I like Int based characters of any kind, and I like Dex fighters, difficult though they are to pull off. I tend to play against type though. I like playing sort of glib, jaded true neutral elves.
I think my second favorite is probably Aasimar.
Then Half-Giant (XPH version).

I use rebalanced races, and while I haven't tried them out yet, I want to play a hybrid (a race that covers half-elves, half-orcs, and other crossbreeds). I'm thinking a half-elf/half-gnome character would be awesome, or maybe a half-elf/half-orc. Historically, I've always had a thing for tieflings.

Other than that, elves, orcs, gnomes, and humans are all awesome. When my copy of Bestiary 3 finally arrives there will probably be a lot of catfolk characters emerging from my pen and keyboard.

My favorites in no apparent order are Humans, Half-Elves, and Tengus

Humans cause they're good all around
Half-Elves id the feat I want is Exotic Weapon Proficiency
Tengus if I want to play a dex-based swordsman. Also I like playing Klepto.

The Exchange

Halflings because they can ride indoors.
Half-Orcs for everything else.

A wise Half-Orc Bard/Fighter once said "I drink it!"

My personal favorite characters have always been the ones who overcame themselves, by either beating their own worst personality traits or beating the expectations of them. Humans end up being my standard go-to, just because it's easy for me to identify with the mindset, but barring that, I go for one of the more "monstrous" races.

I liked Hobgoblins in 3.5, I've always been big on Orcs, not so much the more popular Kobolds and Drow and such. Nowadays, I pretty much play human unless the character concept really calls for something else. I do have concepts for a Dwarven Monk, Suli Fighter/Monk, Halfling Witch, and a couple others I want to play, but if there isn't a racial identity tied to the idea...it ends up being human. Otherwise it feels tacked on to me.

I usually end up playing humans just because its easy to build a character concept with a human base, but of the characters I've played I had the most fun playing a Gnome Paladin in an Xcrawl campaign, so for the roleplay fun I like playing Gnomes the most.

I tend to have the most fun playing a human. It's my typical go-to race; can't really go wrong with them.

My absolute favourite is probably Fetchling.. I love fetchlings.
Although I am very fond of Dhampir, Suli, and Humans of course.

I stick with humans most of the time, mainly for the versatility.

I wouldn't mind a dragonborn conversion though...

For me, it's human. It's easier to play/identify with a human PC, as I am human. I like the stats. Skill boosts and an extra feat are great. Humans are flexible in game mechanics terms.

I'm also fond of dwarves and halflings.

I don't get to play often. In 1e/2e, I finally settled into playing half-elves. I played on Half-dragon in 3e. Mainly, though it has been humans. I like to play low level templated humans, also. I also wanted to play a 3.5e catfolk, or a Litorian from Arcana Evolved.

i like them all, though i favor elf, followed by gnome and anything fey related and always had my heart set on playing a combat focused satyr.

in pathfinder i never play a human, but i like all the human tainted races: half elf, half orc, tiefling, aasimar, dhampir... and more.
also i'm really excited about the advanced race guide thats going to come out soon

i guess i like the elves because they were the first fey representation of a playable race. i especially like the long lifespan, which made a difference in previous games in dnd 2.0 at our table.

in past settings as a dm and player i have seen used dwarves as an analogy to: crazy suicidal axe idiot that constantly seeks to break everything.
dwarves were the first race ive ever wanted to ban, and as a dm i don't ban anything!
4 different players with four very differnt backgrounds somehow come to the same conclusion that dwarves must be the same.
constantly drunk, rude, filthy, violent, and lawful only when it makes no sense.
(have no problem killing somone for an imagined slight but will suddenly turn lawful/stupid when the rogue steals for the party)

i still loathe to ban anything but players who want to play dwarves usually have to talk to me in advance. just to let them know and come to a comprimise that "gully" dwarves are not a welcome addition to my games

stoic, traditional, honor bound, crafty, cunning, strong, proud, and dependable dwarves are not only welcome but encouraged. i hope to see a player try that style one day.

Liberty's Edge

Halflings, especially because of the nice stuff in Halflings of Golarion.

My character in Serpent Skull is a Halfling Strega (Sorcerer archetype with some Witch hexes from Super Genius Games' Sorcerer's Options : Beyond Bloodlines) who plans to use the Halfling Jinx alternate racial trait to the great misfortune of her enemies.

My PFS character is a Andoran halfling aiming for the Halfling Opportunist PrC. He has the Equality for all halfling trait too.

The Paladin cohort of my Human Ranger in RotRL is a Halfling too. His Helpful halfling trait meshes very nicely with his Bodyguard feat.

Also I always wanted to play a Rogue and they are clearly the very best race for the class.

In truth, I always wanted to play a ninja, and it is amazing how halfling is the very bestest race for the PFRPG version of the class.
