I prefer if the GM runs whatever garners him the most enthusiasm -- as that typically means the best game.
I haven't been in a Runelords game to get past this point (the 3 goblin fights), so I'm curious what it's all about now!
Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1
I have never played Runelords either and I am enjoying it.
That being said, I am very easy going and would gladly continue, switch, or play both APs.
I second GM_Todd's GM style being excellent. Well done sir.
Male Human(ish) Level 7 RPG Monkey
I'm good sticking with RotRL.
Well, it looks as if it's decided then. RotRL it is. You have saved me both time and money with your decision, so I am pleased.
And thanks for the GM kudos. I'm glad you guys are having fun!
male Human (Chelaxian/Ulfen) Ranger 1A
Wow... ten hours away from a computer and look what happens...
:-D
For what it's worth, I concur with the group. I've never played RotRL before, and am looking forward to see what happens!
I also have to say how much I'm enjoying this game. Masterful job, boss!
Owlbear Rodeo
GM_T, take a look at the Player's Guide, as they have some good relationship optional rules. (For relationships with NPCs, romantic or otherwise.)
Do you have your eyes on one of my players, Ash? ;)
F Varisian/Chelaxian Magus 1D
What, what? No looking at Viorela. She's a sister-in-arms.
EDIT - Although Ash was very talkative with Tosh.
OHHHHH, I see now.
Owlbear Rodeo
Hahahah! No, no... though Ash in the RotRL campaign that fizzled out at the end of Burnt Offerings ended up chasing a certain NPC... ;)
In my other game thread, one of the players pointed me to this article. I really like this idea for PbPs, and will implement it in our game. I'm still going to track and award XP, but we'll award "step" rewards at every 1/4 level - at least until we get to the end of the first chapter and I have a better sense for PbP advancement.
So, to recap the article quickly, there are four categories of "rewards" from which you can choose. They are, as follows:
A) Hit Dice/hit points/base attack bonus
B) Saving throws
C) Skill points
D) Special
Upon achieving a "step," you choose one of the four rewards from your next level. At the second step, you choose one of the remaining three; the next one of two; and the final step you choose your remaining bonus and are officially a higher level.
To track this, I ask that you make note of the step rewards you have taken in your character profile.
Make sense? Let me know if you have any questions.
Also, just to clarify a little more, the "universal" level up rewards found on this table are given upon actually achieving the next level and are not available as a "step reward."
Additionally, favored class bonuses are given at the first step reward of each level. At that time, you must choose which class you will choosing for your next level. If it is your favored class, you receive the bonus.
It's a little more confusing than I initially thought, so feel free to ask any questions about the system.

Ah, the step system is spreading like wildfire in PbPs! :)
Hey guys - sorry for the lack of posting. It's been a crazy day. I'll try to move things forward later tonight or first thing tomorrow morning.
Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1
I really like the step process. I've been waiting to try it out myself. Good times!

So feats and stat increases only happen after all four advancement steps have been taken, correct?
That is correct. It is only class-specific features that see the upgrade.
male Human (Chelaxian/Ulfen) Ranger 1A
Cool idea! Borhald will continue as a ranger. I chose option A.
HP roll: 1d10 ⇒ 9
F Varisian/Chelaxian Magus 1D
As a magus, I'm going to have to say "D" (special) for Viorela's first step. It was actually a hard choice versus the HD/BAB step.
With the extra spell slot, she'll memorize Silent Image this next morning.
Male Halfling Rogue; 2
For Tactfoot the Rogue.
I'm choosing option C) Skills
Soooooooooooo
It's +8 points for Rogue and +1 for favored class. +9 skill points total for step one correct?
Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1
I'll take option A
Health roll 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
and BAB goes to +1
Now that UC is officially here, you are free to explore some of the new options for your character. I have the book, so let me know if you have any questions.
Let me just take a moment to say how awesome all of you are. I'm loving this game. Sorry if we're moving a little slower than desired.
That is all.
Male Human(ish) Level 7 RPG Monkey
Back atcha. Me too. Pacing is fine for me.
As for the UC, I've got a player that picked it up, so I'll have time in the future to flip through it, eventually. (Since I'm a GM, they have to let me, otherwise they can't use any of the cool, new stuff.)
Male Halfling Rogue; 2
I'm great with the pacing also. The group dynamic is starting to evolve nicely as well.
I'm mostly a GM myself as well. Really fun to be on this side of the virtual screen, so to speak.
I haven't read through UC yet, but I'm sure it's got some nice goodies in it.
Male Halfling Rogue; 2
Here's Tactfoots updated skills from the first step
Skills Acrobatics +11, Appraise +4, Bluff +7, Climb +2, Craft: Traps +5, Diplomacy +7, Disable Device +10, Disguise +7, Escape Artist +9, Fly +6, Perception +7, Sleight of Hand +9, Stealth +13
male Human (Chelaxian/Ulfen) Ranger 1A
Andwell, you're cracking me up with the OOC commentary!!! ROFL!!!!
Male Halfling Rogue; 2
No, don't mention it my friend. Don't mention.
But if you insist, just thumb through your leather bound limited edition of Lord of the Rings, and everywhere the word "Sam" appears, just cross it out and write in "Andwell".
That will do. Yes. That will do nicely.
So, I know there hasn't been much for Vestad to respond to, but did we lose him?
Male Human (Varisian) Bard 1
I've been wondering that too...I hope not, his character is great.
Sorry everyone. Crazy week. I'll be back soon!
Male Human (Taldan) Paladin 3 (hp 31/31; AC 18, t 11, ff 17; Fort +7/ Ref +4/ Will +6; Init +1; Per +2)
Tosh Besnik wrote: I've been wondering that too...I hope not, his character is great. Agreed. Then again, there isn't a personality in the bunch I dislike.
male
Guys, any other ideas? Alternate plan? Do we need more gear, such as ropes and torches? Or are we just fast-forwarding to the next morning?
Male Human(ish) Level 7 RPG Monkey
I'm good with doing the hunt. I suppose I could pick up a spare coil of rope if we need anther, but Vors is equipped and ready to go otherwise. If nothing turns up during the hunt, I say we pick a tribe and go goblin-stomping.
Male Halfling Rogue; 2
I agree on all counts. Hunt and/or Goblin-stomping.
I'm still wondering why the stable master was not involved with defending off the attack. Don't know if that was just an offhand comment or if it has some significance.
