Falling Skies

So did anyone else catch the pilot episode? I thought it was pretty good, so I'll be giving the series a chance. It was certainly a lot better than the remake of V.

Dark Archive

Pretty decent, so far. The lead guy doesn't really look old enough to be the father of the eldest son, but that's a minor quibble, at best.

I like the 'skitters' and the 'mechs.'

Yeah. Noah Wyle is pretty fresh-faced for a 40 year old, and the guy playing his eldest son is...24. Maybe they should have cast a younger guy for the son. I'm presuming he's supposed to be in his late teens.

Still not sure what the offensive weapon of the mechs is. The whole laser light show followed by things flying apart is a bit weird. Maybe a laser targeting system with a gauss-style projectile weapon?

The skitters are good and creepy. I may have to use that design for my Spore game.

So what's your theory about the kids?

Mine,

Spoiler:
They're in the Mechs.

Interesting idea. Seems likely, but I'm going to withhold formulating any theories for now. A two hour premiere is a little thin to go on for me.

I really enjoy this show. It reminds me of Jericho mixed with Battlestar Galatica.

It's hella good.

Silver Crusade

My wife and I really like this show as well.

I agree its an excellent show so far. Just hope it stays around for awhile.

I'm enjoying it. Here's hoping they renew it for a new season, seeing as how we've only got another five episodes to go.

I wld definitely like to see a second season with a story arc about flaunt over a city back from the aliens.

Spoiler:
If Mike's kid 'goes skitter' that Ben doesn't. There' a lot of plot and drama to be milked from that.
  • Why didn't Ben turn? Did they get to him in time? Is there something in his genetic or mental make up?
  • What if he hasn't turned yet?
  • how do you figure out who to save? If it's a time factor, then the longer the skitters are in power, the less chance the terrans have.
  • Lots of other things to ponder too.

    Spoiler:

My guess is that somehow with Rick, his illness caused the skitters to delve further into his brain. So, despite the fact that he's been unharnessed, he's still attached to them.

I also think the harnesses are actually larvae of some sort--would potentially explain why the skitters invade.

Rick! That was his name, Thank you.

One thing I am hoping, non skitter related...

    Spoiler:
I don't want Pope to suddenly get all 'heart of gold' on us. I want him to remain the criminal-bastard-cook he is, but one who's smart enough to know that staying with the 2nd Mass is his best bet for survival. If Tom Mason's to represent the best of humanity, Pope should represent our darker side. I want to see him find a case of Percocet and keep a couple bottles to dole out on the side, that kind of thing. (I didn't recognize at first he's the same actor who played Major Davis)

Second aside, Seychelle Gabriel is a cute girl, but she looks like she's 12, not 20.

    Spoiler:
Sorry dude, but I'm pretty sure he will. Pope is a survivalist, and survivalists tend to mould themselves to their surroundings. He was around jerkholes, he became a jerkhole. He's around better people now, and he will become a better person. Don't forget that despite what went on in the most recent episode(which I found to be a break in the show's reality- kids are too precious a resource to barter away for peace, although I did see shades of the "let's let the Legioss have any strangers who wander into this area in the name of 'peaceful coexistence'" episode of Genesis Climber Mospeada in this one- humans have a common enemy in the skitters, and I'm sure that they will keep fighting primarily them even as they have disagreements with each other.

Frightening that we both thought of that Mospeda episode...

And I expect him to adapt, I just don't want him to lose the 'me first' mentality. He strikes me as a character who loves 'the good life' and while he's not dumb enough to sell out the 2nd Mass to the skitters, I expect his own rackets to be going on.

As to the 'selling the kids'. I'm reminded of the Churchhill quote: “An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile - hoping it will eat him last”. That's what they were doing.

HUGEST FISTBUMP EVAR MOSPEADA!! GOD I LOVE THE PAIZO BOARDS FOR INTRODUCING ME TO FELLOW FANS!!!!!!! Did I mention I'm at Otakon?! WOOT!!!!

Re: Pope- I'm sure he'll always be scuzzy. But he's got a line that he won't cross, and I respect that about the character.

Re: Appeasement- Yeah, good quote, good assessment, and sometimes, frighteningly enough, good logic.

I cant believe the season is over already. What did you think of the last part of the season?

Overall I enjoyed it, some quibbles.

    Spoiler:

  • No one noticed the one kid going all Skitterly? No one thought of PTSD or Stockholm syndrome?
  • We saw from the little girl that the harnesses are continuing to mutate their hosts, is it going to make them skitters? (boring!) or were the Skitters always spiderlike and the harness modified them?
  • No real clear reason why the super metal can blow stuff up good, but thinngs like HEAT rounds can't (There is a Russian MiG that is EMP hardened for example, it stopped working too?)
  • Noah Wyle going with the aliens seemed almost anti-climatic?
  • Why are the super-bio-tech aliens collecting scrap?
  • Are the meks manned or robot/drones?
  • I enjoyed it, looking forward to Season 2

    My hope is that;

    Spoiler:
The Skitters are just another victim of the tall aliens, harnessed at such a young age now that the harnesses end up being subsumed under their chitinous exoskeletons as they grow. Skitter-hater Pope is gonna have a FIT if it turns out that humanity's best hope might be in deprogramming the Skitters and allying with them against the race that's bent on enslaving them both...

On the Pope issue, one of my favorite lines from him was when he somewhat sarcastically said something about how keeping a band of post-apocalyptic brigands under control was much more stressful than it sounds, and that he was finding being a prisoner a nice break from it. I'm not convinced that he'll ever be a 'good guy' (and he's more interesting if he isn't), but, as some dude once said, 'He may be a bastard, but at least he's our bastard.'

    @Matthew Morris:

    Spoiler:
They seem to have no shortage of Mek parts, and no mention of pilots, so it would seem that they are remote controlled.

Pope made mention of the mech metal being extremely dense, and equated it to the depleted uranium rounds that are used for anti-armor.

    Liberty's Edge

I just pulled a marathon with these over two days. I really liked the show and am looking forward to season two.

I agree with the skitters not necessarily being the bad guys here.

The skitters "loving" patting and what not in the school showed they did care for the kids he was with.

Think it depends on the Skitter. The one that ordered the execution of the kids in front of Hal and letting him go. I would consider a bad guy.

Sovereign Court RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32, 2010 Top 8

Well it depends on the natire of the skitters.

    Spoiler:
Since we know the skitters are harnessed, are they in control of their actions, or are they just relays for the humanoids?

    I think we'll see that...

    Spoiler:

    1) How Rick is reacting to his harness is normal, and expected.
    2) How Ben is, isn't, and his becoming "whatever" is most definately not normal. This is probably the major part of the story.

I also do not like how the season ended. It didn't make sense to me at all. I fully expected him to call the bluff.

Another thing I found annoying about the show in general, is how alsmot every character had the exact same reaction to seeing a person they knew that was harnessed. ZOMG SCREW MY FRIENDS IMMA GO SAVE 'EM BY MYSELF!!! SORRY YOU ALL GOT SHOT IN THE FACE BY A MEK BRO!!
    meh. Minor nitpick, but still.

    The Exchange

I only just now noticed this show (apparently in season 4!) and I am wondering if it is worth it to watch through the seasons to catch up and start watching this. Anyone have some thoughts on this?

There are times the show is good and then there are other times i cant stand it. Some decent special effects, good acting/back and forth with the older cast but the plot has some holes in it and it strays alot into the teen angle more than i want it to. its about a c-/c quality show but that just my opinion. I wished they had gone a little darker

It's not my favorite show, but I've had fun watching it, especially as a summer series when there's not a log of original content on TV. I recently caught up on Season 3 streaming, and thought it was a bit weaker than the first two, but I'm still looking forward to season 4 (even though I won't see it for a year, since I stream it).
