Has anyone converted the Mindflayer to Pathfinder?

Conversions

Just asking -

so, has it been done?

Not officially because they belong to WoTC.

That's kind of the problem. Modifying someone elses IP and distributing it to others, in any format, is a good way to get into trouble.

If you're large and/or popular enough to get WOTC's attention, that's true. Otherwise...

I suppose that's true though I seem to recall a lot of fansites getting hit with WotC Legal Hammer when they first stopped supporting the OGL. Perhaps it's just too much work for them to keep up with everything. They've always seemed fairly litigious to me.

But thanks; I didn't even know there was a PF Podcast. We need something like a PF webring.

Check out the Thulid from the Pathfinder Book of Forbiden Lore netbook...

As far as I know, there shouldn't be be a problem as long as: you don't sell it, maybe give it another name.

Thanks, JaceDK!

The Phrenic Scourge has had some major changes, but are obviously meant to be stand ins for illithids.

Stand-ins aren't quite the same as the brain eating real deal.

It was not a case of WOTC not supporting the OGL. It was that mindflayers and certain other things the company kept to themselves. They did give a limited temporary license to Paradigm for a book on them that company put out. (out of print but might be obtainable from RPGNow)

Yes it's a problem. IP laws have nothing to do whether profit is sought. And as for the latter suggestion, that would fall under derivative works, another subsection of copyright law.

This was my version, broken down by levels (ala Savage Species like) - if interested.... Mind Flayer

From Bestiary By Levels.

I did an unofficial conversion with the help of some simple Hero Lab editing, I can provide the file if you'd like.

I have a "bootleg" conversion that I found online several months ago. It also contains bootleg conversions of other WotC owned creatures.

Is there a PDF download on that page? I can't find it...

It's under the word Monster Mash.

Here's the direct link to The Monster Mash Bestiary

Liberty's Edge

Holy Thread Necromancy. I really don't think the O.P. needs the conversion any longer.

I find Seugathi or Intellect Devourers replace the mind flayer niche well enough.

yes, in fact, I have a copy. It's not official. You interested?

It's not hard to do that yourself. Give them a few more feats, and give them CMB/CMD values. There's probably a few other minor changes, but you could ignore them.

In fact, other than CMB/CMD values, you could use the Monster Manual mind flayer as written.

One of the problems with 3.5 Mindflayer is that they're a perfect example of wonky CR assignment that many 3.5 MM monsters suffered from. They have 44 HP, AC 15 and they're glass cannons who either get their Mind Blast off and possible TPK or they don't get it it off and they get Rodney King'ed in one round. So a straight conversion doesn't fix that issue, you should get the offensive and defensive capabilities in one line and keep it with Bestiary guidelines for CR.

Dark Archive

I converted both Illithids and Beholders a while back. I just checked, and they were taken down. Someone must have taken issue with them. No real surprise though.
