Tark's Council of Thieves (PbP recruitment)

Gamer Connection

1 to 50 of 139 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

So, I decided to go ahead and run one of these damnable things to satiate my rampaging desire to run a game whenever.

In any case let's get down to it.

Submission Guidelines:

Submit a character with backstory and a brief description of physical looks, personality, class and race. In addition please answer the following questions in whatever way you see fit.

1. Why are you in Westcrown?

2. Given a chance would you hurl down the ruling houses and take their place? Or create a new form of government?

3. What will you be able to contribute to the group?

4. How do you expect the character to develop roleplay wise? Mechanically?

I'm a Hellknight about to lay down some police brutality down on you. What do you say to stop me from breaking off my spiked greaved boot in your butt?

Also, no Paladins thank you. The region can really mess with a paladins code and I'd be better off not dealing with a ticking time bomb ready to go on a Smitepage. I'm not going to get into a debate about it.

You also must be able to post at least once a day twice a day being a preferred minimum but not required. If you cannot post for a day or two please let me know in advance so we can get your character moved on. If you do not post for three days in a row without informing me then you will be dropped. Even if it is a simple one line post dictating your character picking his nose while other PC's are chatting it up that's fine so long as I know you're still there and interested.

Character Guidelines

20 point buy, core races plus tieflings others will be considered on an individual basis.

Average wealth per class.

2 traits one must be a campaign trait.

I will be selecting up to 5 players (6 if I can't decide) at around this time next week with a game start hopefully the following Monday.

I will be keeping an eye on this thread and make comments/heckles until then.

I shall put forward a character for your review in due course.

I assume we are good for core + APG? - other pathfinder compatible bits subject to DM fiat?

Pretty much. If it's paizo published its cool but no 3pp please.

One last Q - are playtest characters in or out?

Mark Sweetman wrote:

Yes to Magus since Umagic is coming out soonish anyway no to anything else.

TarkXT,

I've never played PF (been playing D&D for 22 yrs) and have been skimming the rules. I'm trying to find a PF PbP, but the hordes of prepared jump as soon as any recruit goes out.

I will try to answer your questions as best I can, and put together the stats shortly after.

Looking at maybe a Dwarven Rogue/Cleric of Artifice. He is well groomed, and very precise. His clothes well maintained, beard trimmed and combed. He's a builder at heart and always mulling over calculations.

1. He's in Westcrown to study the Stavian Arches.
2. If the new government would restore the splendor of the city's architecture, then he would support them in a heartbeat... maybe get in on the ground floor.
3. He will be a master of the mechanical, and an precise planner
4. I expect him to learn to appreciate the contributions of people beyond just what they can build. Mechanically (kind of a blank, don't know the rules well enough for PF) maybe develop with traps and secret doors?

For my post rate, I sit on the forums almost all day, check my aliases, I hover over them waiting for updates.

Well if you don't mind the odd family curse......

long:

I offer a Tiefling, bastard of no known mother or father. Once part of a minor house and trained to assist in some lesser arcane tasks. The house was destroyed house Thrune found them no longer useful. My character was tortured until they we confident the he had told them everything the Thrune torturers wanted to hear. And then they tossed him into the street. He was not important enough to kill.

This made him very very angry.

What happened next depends on the class I ultimately choose.

Options:
Witch; He was beaten and tossed into the midden behind the prison. It was raining, that was what woke him up. When he opened his blood-caked eyes there was a rat sitting an inch or two from his face.

He looked at the rat, the rat looked at him.

The rat said "So do you want to kill them yet?" And that as they say was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Alchemist: He lay there on the midden-pile. Rain washing the bodies and mixing the blood and poison and chemicals used by the torturers into beautiful patterns. His own blood was there and the chemicals were in him. He recognized some of the drugs and poisons from his training. They were throwing away value.
He could use this. A nearby corpse had been wastefully over dosed on the mind shattering Degas mushroom. It filled the blood with spores if overused. That purple stuff in the half broken bottle was cold leaf extract. Combine cold leaf extract with the spores of the Degas mushroom and mushroom you have a powerful pain killer.
Drinking the polluted blood was easier than he thought it would be. They threw him away, they would live to regret their error, but not for too long.

Rouge: He hit the midden hard. They had been working on him for a while more for practice then anything else by the end. He blacked out.
It was cool and dark when he awoke. It was cooler. It was night. He was surprised to be alive. He was surprised by how beautiful the night sky looked where the towers of the rich did not block it.
He clothed himself in the rags left on the bodies, found a dagger in one of them. He walked into that comforting night. They threw him away. He was nothing. Well he would invite them to join him and soon the view of the night sky would be unimpeded.

Paladin.....just kidding

Looks: depending on how you play the infernal bastard trait he will have more or less noticeable infernal features. Starting with Black nails and moving through red hairless skin to small horns or bone ridges and a small useless tail.

Personality. He is a nihilist. If a With we are probably looking at Nyarlathotep as the voice behind the rat. He sees people as corrupt and hopeless and death as a virtue. Under this however is a crazy kind of decency. He barely acknowledges it, but he is kind to those weaker than himself, and he is a lover of beauty.

In any case he is bone thin and makes a point to keep clean.

1.I was born in Westcrown, I may die here but strangely that does not bother me that much.

2. Given my choice I would burn the place and strew salt in the ashes. I will not oppose others forming a government on the ruins, but only after the fire.

3. An analytical mind. A eye for the long view. Dark humor. Arcane might or thievery flexibility. Compassion for errors. Plenty of posts.

4. Mechanically will depend on circumstances in play. I am far from wedded to a 'build'. I go for flavor over optimization. Roleplaywize this can be a revenge tragedy or a redemption story. All depends on if I find something to hope for.

5. Very little, apart from the screaming and crying like a little girl. We are in the belly of the beast and direct opposition brings death. Give the machine what it wants and you may distract it long enough for you to grow strong.

Trait: most likely infernal bastard unless you have a different way to balance the devil-spawn

Let me know if you have a preference and I'll get you the crunch.

Shadow Lodge

I might just be joining another Council of Thieves game in short order, so I might not be joining this one, if you don't want double-dipping.

Sclivian Ruttle, Esq. is, by profession, a karcist accountant. He maintains the books for the noble houses of Westcrown. His ledgers are filled with details to the specific debts and credit between various powers. However, he does not deal with finance. Instead, his role is maintaining the records for mortals as they deal with the infernal hosts. His records of deals inform the nobles how, precisely, they can deal with devils, and what they owe, and how to leverage these debts against each other. It is a very exacting, careful job, and one must be very careful with their dealings with Mr. Ruttle.

Sclivian Ruttle is a Human Wizard with the Diabolist Raised trait. If allowed, he will choose the Conjuration(Infernal Binder) school, or perhaps the Abjuration(Banishment) school. He is skinny, much more used to a musty office than the field. He very often openly carries around an extra ledger, just to take notes of account.

Sclivian Ruttle is a professional in Westcrown, where his services are in demand. He is fully bought into the diabolist power structure, and does not, on the surface, wish for it to end. However, he recognizes that one must adjust with the times as necessary to survive. A stickler for procedure, he would quote laws chapter and verse to assert his rights and threaten the state of the debts with any Hellknight who thinks him a problem.

This is the proposal of Mark Sweetman

Caldazar, Human Inquisitor of Milani the Everbloom (Faiths of Purity p18).

Caldazar grew up on the outskirts of Westcrown, the son of a workman and his mother died in childbirth. When in his teens, his father attempted to unionise against his opressive factory boss. His father was made an example of and executed publically. He was forcibly stopped from retribution by a stranger, and whisked out of town while his anger cooled.

The stranger was a devotee of Milani, and instructed him on her ways. After a few years training, he returned for vengeance only to find that the factory boss had already been killed by another. His focus shifted to freeing others who live under the yoke, and he has been actively seeking out a resistance movement to join.

Average height and build, he easily blends into a crowd. Brown hair is loosely cut and frames his face that shows a decent growth of stubble. His blue-grey eyes have a steeliness to them, and to look upon them is to see their depth.

Although he is a liberator and champion of the opressed, he is not stupid. He realizes that change must be stealthy to start, and that open opposition will just get you killed. Crunch will be updated shortly.

1) "I have returned to Westcrown to liberate my fellow men from the tyranny of opression. I know that it will not be an easy fight, nor will it be short - but the yoke of servitude must be cast off."

2) "True change can only happen if those underfoot rise up as one. It is not my place to govern unless the people wish it. However given the chance I would sever all their heads and throw the city to chaos if it would liberate those opressed."

3) "My tongue can be silver or iron, depending on who needs be lashed with it. I have studied long the ways of the diabolist and his minions, and my divine mistress gives me strength to free those in bondage."

4) "My power will grow as each indebted is set free." I expect Caldazar will start out as a wider eyed idealist, with a slightly smug and superior tone. Over time as the size of the task ahead dwells on him, his outlook will be become hardened by reality - though it won't temper his desire. Mechanically - he will stay as an Inquisitor, though focus his advances on better combating devils and their binders. Will maintain a strong focus on 'face' skills / leadership as well.

5) Fingering the morningstar at my side "Ware your words Hellknight, lest you be made to eat them. I do not look for quarrel with you, though I will answer if you force it upon me."

This is my PC for your perusal.
I can adjust back to 1st level if accepted!

Thanks

I've been hoping to get into a CoT play by post. I've got two possible character concepts that I think would be great for this game, a tiefling bard and a half-orc summoner; I'll see about getting both properly submitted in short order.

A quick question about tieflings; do you want us to use the racial traits as presented in the Bestiary, or can we utilize the variants found in The Bastards of Erebus? And if we can use the latter source, can we select our options for your approval, or should we roll for them?

My character, for your review and (hopeful) approval.

Tok
Dwarf
Monk/1

Background:

Tok, the heir to a long-line of merchant families, traveled with his father for many years. Destined to follow in his father's footstep and take over the family trade. Tok was uninspired by this life direction, but felt obligated to respect it.

As a teenager, while visiting a large town, he happened to steal away for a few moments at the arena, where he witnessed a fight between an unarmed, unarmored monk and a heavily armored barbarian. The monk moved with fluidity and grace, easily dismantling the defenses of the barbarian and winning the fight - along with a healthy cash reward.

Tok was enamored - not only by the ease with which the monk fought, but by the potential of earning significant cash rewards by scamming people into fighting an innocent-looking, unarmed dwarf. At the next major metropolitan center, he ran away from his father, stole away with merchants bound for Thuvia and managed (somehow) to convince the Thuvian monastery to allow him to study there.

Despite his originally ignoble intentions, Tok came to admire the discipline of the monastic order. He fell in line with the teachings, dedicating himself to the perfection of his warrior-art and becoming increasingly comfortable talking about his past life. One night, while confiding to his closest friend, a half-elf monk, he confessed his original intentions for joining the monastery. He was overheard by an elder, who reported Tok's words to the head.

His protests that he was deeply committed to the order were ignored. Tok was immediately expelled and forced to seek his own path. He made his way back to civilization, becoming a teacher of martial arts. After several years of aimless wandering, he arrived in Westcrown, hoping to find work as a teacher or bodyguard.

Questions:

1. Why are you in Westcrown?
I heard that there were numerous opportunities for unarmed martial artist experts, either as a bodyguard or trainer.

2. Given a chance would you hurl down the ruling houses and take their place? Or create a new form of government?
I would do my part to bring order if I were asked to be involved. Unless I am personally affected, I will likely be uninterested in any political intrigue.

3. What will you be able to contribute to the group?
Frequent posts, enthusiasm and dedication to seeing this game through to the end - I'm not taking part in any other PBP or RL game, currently.

4. How do you expect the character to develop roleplay wise? Mechanically?
My character has been out of touch for many years - he is just now becoming reintroduced to society and its complexities and corruption. He will come to grips with these realities - or rebel against them.

I'm a Hellknight about to lay down some police brutality down on you. What do you say to stop me from breaking off my spiked greaved boot in your butt?
I would stoically await what you felt was an appropriate action against me. If I felt it were unjustified, I would calmly explain this as if it were the most obvious fact in the world.

This is a case where you can choose what's already there adn relatively common (bestiary) OR trust the heart of the car...I mean luck of the dice. We can't all choose how we were born after all.

So are you requiring Tieflings to take Infernal Bastard trait? Because if you are not requiring it I will likely go for human-with a bit of infernal blood rather than Tiefling. Both the variant and the bestiary Trieflings are a bit too powerful for what I am going for at the beginning.

No. Only if you want to have a slightly weaker but more consistent set of abilities due to a weakened heritage.

Count me in. Thin blood for the win.

I'll have to give my tiefling some thought, then; take the default, or roll and hope for the best ...

Not quite complete, but giving you a good idea of the basic direction.

I can post several times a day (glory to the iPhone), and have yet to play in a PbP.

That said im Contemplating an elven rogue or urban ranger without the animal companion). I would prefer rogue as I haven't played one in over 25 years (I was always the GM)

I was thinking about a vigilante type with a serious hate for hellknights and the whole diabolist way of life. Formerly a shopkeeper, he helplessly watched as his wife was hauled off by hellknights and falsely accused of secretly spreading anti-asmodean propaganda. Besides her being jailed, their shop was seized and burnt to the ground. Now he has become a vigilante and is searching for his wife if she is still alive, and a way to free her. If he can help bring down the government in the process, all the better.

This is it in a nutshell, if I'm selected I'll get into more detail and roll him up. I still need a name for him as well as the vigilante alias. :)

Btw, Im not going to roleplay him as a batman, dark and moody type. He knows he must keep a low profile and stay focused to accomplish his goals. Im shooting for a calm and helpful type, loyal to his friends and companions but chillingly (almost to the point of alarmingly) brutal and efficient when it comes to dealing with Hellknights and other Diabolist/Infernal types.

Answers to the DM's questions.....

Spoiler:

1. Why are you in Westcrown?

Façade
A native spent most of my life there growing up in the orphanage, looking for opportunities as they arise for wealth and gain. As a roguish tiefling that is to be expected.

Actual
To uncover and provide as much information as possible to the pathfinders

2. Given a chance would you hurl down the ruling houses and take their place? Or create a new form of government?

Façade
Neither one as is I would position myself for gain and rewards, in the chaos of transition or under a new government I would adjust and do the same!

Actual
Whatever it takes to re-open the pathfinder lodge

3. What will you be able to contribute to the group?

Skills and battle prowess as a swashbuckler, with a surprise here and there!

4. How do you expect the character to develop roleplay wise? Mechanically?

Roleplay
The others would become more aware of what actually motivates the PC rather than the exterior façade that keeps suspicion at bay. And keeps the PC out of trouble…..

Mechanically
Rogue for now, considering shifting the swashbuckler to ranger at level 2 and sticking with ranger for the remainder……

Would you allow us to take the Fiendish Heritage feat (The Bastards of Erebus 66), to have a little more choice over any variant tiefling abilities?

I'm interested, though I won't be able to submit a character until I get back home (which will be in about 7-8 hours). Will think of a char concept and such, but I'd like to be considered.

Dark Archive

I submit Falco Rook, Andoran Spy/freedom Fighter.

"I shouldn't be telling you this, but you Seem like a trust worthy person. I have been assigned to WestCrown on an information Gathering Mission. I am to look for anyone who would possible flip and start Supplying Andoran with data on The House of Thrune." With enough Information, We might be able to cause the house of Thrune to colapse, and remove the Devils from power. My talents Include Tracking, scouting, infltration, And of course, Combat. First I will have to "get in good" with the locals, earn their trust, Then put the feelers out, see if there are any Nobles who aren't happy with Thrune... The hellknights? Bah, they would never get close enough to me. I'd see them comming in the crowd yards away, and then Disappear before they got their Hellish hands on me."

Falco Rook is a CG 2 Handed Urban Ranger, with the Conspiracy Hunter ( bluff) and Suspicious Traits. He is Very Cocky and a bit over confident, Hes a Good Judge of Character, and Deeply loyal to his Cause.

Going with the witch. A talking rat as a conduit to Nyarlathotep or to the key and the gate is too cool an idea to miss.

Full character follows soon.

Btw. Will you have issues with a pseudo-worshipper of the Great old ones in the game. He will not know any more about them than anyone else and it never needs to be explored if you don't like. The power behind the rat could be a demon loard, asmodeaus playing a prank, or heck Iomedae for all the character knows. I just like the power-at-cost and you become what you hate aspects of someone who opposed folks who made a deal with a devil by making a deal with the outer gods.

To app, or not to app, that is the question...

I will debate this. I should give others a chance though :)

"Your claim upon my client's soul remains, at this time, subordinate to the primary claim offered by your superior. In addition, I note that your superior maintains power of servitude above you. This section of your contract obligates the continued delivery of infernal enhancement to my client. The soul may be claimed once the subordination to your superior is resolved."

Sclivian Ruttle, Esq., karcist accountant and solicitor, now ready.

I've updated my stats, traits and feats to take part in this campaign.

I'm not familiar with the adventure path, so some of my skills and trait selections may need to be adjusted to better align with the needed talents to help the party succeed.

Another quick custom tiefling question; would you require us to roll for the Random Tiefling Features, or can we select those ourselves? They're only cosmetic changes, after all, and can be used from a design perspective to create some measure of cohesiveness between the other, randomly selected variant features.

Forgot to add to the previous post...
Westcrown Firebrand is perfect for me trait-wise. Also mechanically I may mix it up occasionally with Ranger.

dot

I need to think about the char.

I have not been in Westcrown before or know what this path is about so I will need to get a little town info before I know the answers to your questions.

"Why am Ah in Westcrown you ask? Perhaps you've heard mah story. Mah father was in line to take over House Tas'Vere when I was deposited on his doorstep by a Calistrian priestess, who said he was mah daddy. That made Grandmother real angry, said it shamed our house, him consorting with some temple whore. He claimed Ah wasn't his, but she didn't believe him, and insisted Ah become part of the family if he wanted any chance to rule the House. Blood doesn't turn on blood, she said.

"Well, he raised me and gave me every advantage House Tas'Vere had to offer; everything but real parents that is. Not hard to tell your daddy don't much like you when you're named Calumny.

"And when Grandmother died and daddy didn't get the title, well, no surprise, Ah was to blame. Ah escaped, with the temple's help, just ahead of the man he sent for mah head.

"Spent some time in the temple -- Ah fit in well there -- but when daddy tried to kill me again, murdering a couple of mah friends in the process, Ah decided it was time to leave Egorian. And so here Ah am.

"Do Ah want to see some other type of government ruling Cheliax? Why would Ah want that? Ah can see this empire back in all its glory if the right people are in charge. And I was raised to believe that House Tas'Vere -- under the right leadership -- can be key to that renewal."

"What's that? You think Ah'm preachin' sedition? Let's not be hasty, Sir Knight. Maybe you can defeat me in combat, but Ah've been trained by some of the finest tutors House Tas'Vere can afford, not to mention the Calistrian sisters. Ah might not be such easy prey as you think. Furthermore, I ask you to think about yourself for a moment. There may be a place for someone with some vision and foresight in the days to come, when Cheliax finds itself with new leadership, but you need to be smart to make that happen."

Calumny "Calla" Tas'Vere is a half-elf, though only slight points on her ears betray the non-human part of her heritage; she's otherwise inherited the classic Chelaxian pale skin and black hair and eyes of her father. Bitter over her childhood and having felt more welcome in the temple, she has become an inquisitor of Calistria, focusing on the vengeance aspect of the Goddess' portfolio.

I can contribute a post or two daily, I think generally well-written with no (or at least few) spelling/grammar errors. I think I've got a character with enough personality that she'll be fun to play with and DM and make the campaign enjoyable for both players and DM. I've got a Kingmaker campaign I'm running up to 500 posts, so I'm not likely to suddenly disappear.

I imagine Calla will function mainly as an archer, though hopefully she'll also be capable in melee. I plan to go inquisitor for however long we go. At the start, she'll be acerbic and bitter -- she had a horrible childhood and is on the run from her father, who's trying to kill her -- but hopefully she'll mellow a little bit over the course of the campaign (not that much, though, as she is focused on vengeance and I don't want her to lose her edge).

Note that if you look at the character in the profile right away, it's an earlier version from a game that lasted all of 60-some posts. Will work on updating her to a half-elf ASAP, and changing her traits and feats.

This is a paired character that goes with Patchers character Rhys. We decided to make a duo of people who know each other for fun.

Background of Edgar:

Growing up in Westcrown, Edgar always understood the way of the world. Or at least, as a child, he thought he did. His parents ran a small but fairly well known theatre they called "The Golden Chalice", which Edgar thought was absolutely silly. He grew up treated well, his parents providing him a solid education in acting, but he was never one for the stage, always dour, always serious, and never comfertable around large groups of people.

In fact, his favorite activity was seeing how far he could get and how long he could avoid his parents. One day, when he disappeared from his bedroom and snuck out into the streets, the young human ran into a Half Orc, literally. He slammed right into him while running, and the two were knocked down. Edgar helped the other youth up, apologizing profusely and constantly glancing over his shoulder. He introduced himself, and offered to buy the half orc a pastry if he kept quiet about seeing him. The other youth agreed.

That was the beginning of the friendship between Edgar and Rhys.

The two young men were as thick as thieves for several years, sharing in all sorts of mayhem, as youths are likely to do. However, during Edgar's 16th year of life, things changed. His parents were killed by a local crime boss, who was angry that Edgars parents were not paying protection money. Almost at the same time, Rhys was dragged off by a press gang, and sold into slavery. The two seperated, and Edgar decided that he would have to hunt down those who took his family from him. From that day forward Edgar joined the guard, devouted himself to the skills needed to track those who would break the law.

Several years passed, and one day Edgar got wind that the man who had bought his friend had died. He quickly began the paperwork to get his friend freed, having worked in the system for the last several years, and moving up in rank to become a tracker in the guard. He was successful in freeing his friend, and was happy to be reunited.

However, Rhys seemed less then pleased by the outcome, and the two began to have a rivalry. Edgar could not understand why his friend was upset when the system had in fact worked, as he saw it. When Rhys disappeared yet again, Edgar was put on task to track him, to find him and bring him back in under suspicious of sedition and treason against the rulers.

Since then Edgar has done his best to hide any evidence of his friend, while at the same time trying to get in contact with him and help him understand that the system can in fact change from within, and that trying to start a revolution is the worst thing possible.

Unfortunatly for Edgar, the guard caught wind of him trying to hide evidence and has expelled him. Since that time, Edgar has continued to try to change things by following the law, but his power is now limited.

Answers to your Questions:

1. Why are you in Westcrown?
- Edgar is in Westcrown trying to improve things by fixing the system from within the system.

2. Given a chance would you hurl down the ruling houses and take their place? Or create a new form of government?
- Create a new form of government that benefits all.

3. What will you be able to contribute to the group?
- Tracking, breaking and entering, and a variety of other skills suited to an urban enviroment. Also (hopefully) contacts from within the guard. Also decent combat skills

4. How do you expect the character to develop roleplay wise? Mechanically?
- Mechanically he is going to be a defensive urban ranger, focusing on Sword and Shield style (its from the APG). RP Wise, he hopes to mend his friendship with Rhys, and to fix the system so that people can rely on a fair government again.

5. I'm a Hellknight about to lay down some police brutality down on you. What do you say to stop me from breaking off my spiked greaved boot in your butt?
- I would explain that I am a former member of the guard, and that I am currently trying to track dangerous rebels and bring them to justice, and then I would offer my services for a fair price. Gotta pay the bills!

As Edgar said, this is a character that goes hand-in-hand with him. Sadly not literally.

---
Background
---

When Rhys Florian was born, it was to a mother who was set on the name despite his gender and whom the father was. A prostitute working the Parego Dospera, the mother did all she could to care for the child who grew sickly once a week and seemed to live with a foot in the grave. Yet Rhys survived; despite tiring out easily, he had charms for a half-orc, and intellect as well; he was dextrous and observant. Yet he was still a kid.

While the streets were dangerous at night, at day he would roam them when it was safest, and even dare to explore the Parego Spera and Parego Regicona. It was in the city's Crown Sector Rhys was ran over by a human kid. Treated with a particular courtesy that Rhys had never beforehand experienced, he was treated to a pastry if he didn't raise a fuzz. He agreed; they shortly became friends.

Inseparable, they were mischievous as children, and eventually, adolescents are. Yet after five good years, things took a turn for the worse. Edgar's parents were murdered, and the tragedy went further when his own mother was killed as well. At the measly age of thirteen, Rhys was taken and sold as a slave in the blood sector, to a brute of a man with a less than favourable reputation.

He still does not speak of the horrors he experienced. After three years of this hell, his master died in a bar brawl, leaving him an unowned slave. It was inexplicable relief when it was Edgar who gave him his freedom - yet it had also been three years of torment, under a system that permitted this madness. While grateful, he felt deep resentment every time he would see a slave being ordered; even worse when guards were simply standing by and watching.

Rhys decided it was time for action. Edgar insisted that the system could change, and that it would work, but after his years in slavery Rhys refused to believe that. It wasn't long before he had managed to free a couple of slaves and have them flee the city, though he was painfully aware that it was luck, not skill, but he would not stop.

He caught the attention of a group dedicated to a similar cause: followers of Cayden Cailean. Inquisitors with a mission, Rhys admired their resolve, and grew to follow their ideals. He joined their ranks, trained as an inquisitor.

It has been two years. He knows it is no coincidence that the city guard isn't on his trail, and while he would like to thank Edgar for the favour, speaking with him would only lead to conflict. Yet it may be the time to set certain differences aside; rumours have been going around lately, and not of the positive kind. Yet Rhys is convinced that getting involved can and will change the state of the city.

For better, or worse.

Description/personality
---

Rhys is oddly petite for somebody of his height. A half-orc at 5'2", his physical frame is very limber. There is a frailness to his stance, and his skin is a very pale green, as if washed out. Scars decorate his arms and legs, though his face is unscarred. His tusks are small and almost invisible. He has short blonde hair. His entire back and upper chest are draped in an elaborate tattoo.

For his size, his voice can be booming. His eyes, a warm hazel in colour, are usually cool and collected, yet he can force somebody down with his gaze alone. Fond of life and the freedom it holds, he has no qualms fighting dirty, getting drunk or snatching somebody's pouch of gold - though only if it serves purpose. When it matters, however, he drops the facade and rarely cracks jokes, staying sober and focused on the necessary task at hand. He is utterly determined to do what must be done.

Answers to questions
---

1. Rhys is a freedom fighter in Westcrown, working in the shadows to further the cause to abolish slavery.
2. Rhys would create a new form of government, where all men speak equally.
3. Rhys is fleet of foot and got many social skills; while he doesn't have the best charisma, he is a decent Face. Combat-wise, he has abysmal health but relies on never being hit in the first place, dealing moderate damage while adding utility to the group. Finally, he has faint elements of being able to heal with Cure Light Wounds.
4. Roleplay-wise, I expect him to develop either towards the utter extreme (if everything goes horribly wrong) or towards the rational (if the carefully laid plans actually work out). It depends on what happens. Mechanical-wise, Rhys has low Con, which will be a challenge - at 4th level (if he doesn't die before that) he might buff Con to 8), otherwise feats will generally chosen depending on what is necessary. Potential choices include: Endurance, Weapon Focus (Rapier or Longbow), Skill Focus (any), Expanded Arcana, Keen Scent... it depends on the rest of the party, but tracking-related, Face-related, combat-related or spell-related, all depending on the situation. Planning a character ahead is not something I am comfortable with, because I never know what will be necessary or even good.
5. Rhys would look him in the eye and ask him what kind of authority would allow the social abominations that are currently legal, and that it is the absolute insanity of the system that has resorted to him taking this path; if he gets killed for that, then at least he can die a martyr. He may be physically frail, but damned if he won't stand up for everybody else's rights.

Would you allow us to take the Fiendish Heritage feat (The Bastards of Erebus 66), to have a little more choice over any variant tiefling abilities?

Since you're spending a feat on it rather than allowing the dice roller to have its delightful little way with you than yes.

Worship them all you like. Rat's not tellign you his game. He's a rat. A street hustling rodent. You're the hustle.

Another quick custom tiefling question; would you require us to roll for the Random Tiefling Features, or can we select those ourselves? They're only cosmetic changes, after all, and can be used from a design perspective to create some measure of cohesiveness between the other, randomly selected variant features.

If they're jsut cosmetic then go for it.

I need to think about the char.

I have not been in Westcrown before or know what this path is about so I will need to get a little town info before I know the answers to your questions.

Council of Thieves Player's guide gives lots of good info. Go download it it's free anyway.

So let's see how the hellknights fared today.

Poor Wandering One: Congratulations you survive jsut getting a severe beating, some curse hurled at you and a bit of spittle on you. Nothing you can't recover from.

Sclivian: Probably shouldnt remind a hellknight of any debts he might owe. After your savage beating it takes a month to fish out all the notes out of the unfortunate place he decided to shove your ledger.

Caldazar: Your death certificate listed "Suicide" under cause of death.

Morrazone: Ouch you never even saw the beating coming. Thankfully your surprise means you couldnt resist much and went into sweet unconciousness quickly.

Tok: You get a beating, but nothing more than that. It's no fun bullying someoen who doesn't fight back or cry out in pain. Damn dwarves.

Solarius: Oh we will catch you oh yes. And when we do we'll shove this ledger we found deep in places that are both painful and hard to reach.

Calumny: Your funny accent throws the hellknight off until you mention Clistria, and then try to draw him to your side. You're never seen again.

Edgar: You're shoved around and treated with general disdain as being worse than scum but are left alone since you are part of the system that they are the grinding teeth of.

Rhy: You are granted your wish. The bloody stain that used to be you is passed by everyday with sadness adn occasionally a worshiper of Cayden Cailean will poor a bottle of hard liquor out on the street in your honor. Being a martyr however you can do little beyond be a bloody stain to help people.

Anyway some interesting things coming. (wow three good inquisitor apps seriously?) Keep them coming!

Char Info:

Name: Hisoka Hachiro
Class: Alchemist
Race: Human
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Age: 24
Height: 5’4’’
Weight: 137

Description: Hisoka is a small Asian man that usually has of dismal look on his face. He has been beaten a few times over the years so he has many scares and a limp. He has an eye patch over his left eye assumedly due to damage. His traditional garb is a large hat, pocketed cloak, tattered pants, and some cheap well worn sandals.

Personality: Hisoka has a very dry to the point approach to life. You can like it or leave it. He does not have a since of humor nor does he find anything funny. His word is strong though. He does not break a deal nor will he divulge secret information. He also has a lot of moxie when it comes to just about anything, and it has got him into a few really tuff situations.

BackStory: Hisoka has lived the streets for a long time, and taken his share of damage. He has been in the town of Westcrown for his entire life. He is by definition a drug cook, but he will use his alchemical skills for whatever is needed. The current condition of the city really only allows for a specific type of work. He traditional does not work the street, and a mundane newcomer to the town would simply consider him to be a street beggar. He keeps his trade somewhat secret, and only works for a few street gangs that give him protection for his products. He does frequent the surrounding forest when looking for ingredients. Due to the damage to his body he does hit the drink from time to time and also eats chemicals/herbs that reduce pain. Most of the pain is self inflicted due to drinking random concoctions.

1. Why are you in Westcrown? He lives in Westcrown.

2. Given a chance would you hurl down the ruling houses and take their place? Or create a new form of government? He really does not give a crap about the ruling whatever. His focus is on his alchemic trade, but more power does lead to more chemicals. If he had the above choice he would more than like find a face man to lead the current system, and do whatever he really wanted.

3. What will you be able to contribute to the group? He can defiantly make potions which will come in really handy. He will also do a little damage from time to time. If we have no true rogue he can also help there.

4. How do you expect the character to develop roleplay wise? Mechanically? He is not going to be crazy, but he will be a little haphazard in his work though. His primary focus in life is making interesting substance. These substances do not need to be explosive just simply have interesting qualities. Mechanically is he is going to be tuff as nails and like a good fist fight.

5. I'm a Hellknight about to lay down some police brutality down on you. What do you say to stop me from breaking off my spiked greaved boot in your butt? There are far more important things to do with life than jump into a fight with a superior combatant. Hisoka would more than likely take the thrashing and move on. There is a good chance he would not say a single word.

The trait will be Conspiracy Hunter (Stealth).

I can post 99 times a day if need be. I have the page open almost all the time.

Dark Archive

Ow, but at least he survived.

Next time, Mr. Ruttle welcomes you, Sir Hellknight, shows you his credentials as a licensed solicitor of the Empire, offers you a drink, and states that clearly since you mean to beat him up, there is a good reason. He merely wishes to learn the nature of his crime and your name, so that his masters and noble clients can be properly informed of his transgressions and so that you may receive your just reward. Feel free to start any time, and thank you for your continued protection of the Empire. Oh, and don't mind the divination spell in the area, his clients only wish to make sure they know what he is up to.

I have no idea what just happened... *eyes the hellknights*

Well, I'm dead. >:

(I'm jesting)

Unconscious but still alive!

"That's it Castor, you are on half rations for three days."

"Don't look at me like that. You know full well you are supposed to keep an eye out when the Iron Heads are around."

"..."

"A butterfly, you were watching a butterfly."

"..."

"That one?"".....oh, that one...I've never seen that kind..."

"Ok, full rations."

"Great, more Iron Heads. Time to move."

Sorry, I missed the Hellknight as a question thing. I thought it was just a statement about the campaign.

5.)"Oh no Sir, these scribbles are not battle plans or seige preparations, they are notes on ways to improve the slendor of a mechanical marvel. By Brigh's designs, I would love to see this city's wonder and majesty restored."

It's taking me a little longer to fully finish my character profile, just using the SRD and don't own the books.

Never seen again? Ah assume then that he helped me escape to more friendly environs.

And if not, the nice thing about serving the goddess of vengeance, is Ah know one way or another, the knight will get what is coming to him.

However, chaotic? Ah think not. Ah'm a law-abiding citizen.
