Pepperbox longgun?

Gunslinger Discussion: Round 2

why would there not be a pepperbox version of the musket?

Gun smithing says a character can make guns and understands the making and science of firearms. So since a pepperbox needs a freehand to advance the chambers, wouldn't an automatic evolution of this technology go toward a long gun where the "free hand" supports the long gun and turns the barrels?

I found a mini that basically has a long gun pepperbox...

Such weapons did exist in real life - they were just superceded by more advanced repeaters. I know why IRL "revolver" longarms weren't popular - they had a tendency to misfire with one of the user's hands in front of the firing chamber. :)

Such a weapon would probably still have the musket's stats, but with more shots, and probably triple the cost of the musket. The most important feature is -- would it look cool? If so, I'm all for it. :)

Ah, the Nock Gun. I included it in most of my gunslinger versions since the 2nd round "pepperbox gun" is what I called it. They're pretty cool. Saw it first in the Dune miniseries that was on TV a bunch of years ago (which I own). I think they really should include it in Ultimate Combat.

Ouch!

I take great axe, you keep nasty gun.

Interesting.. apparently the two weapons are not the same.. the former linked is a gun-sized pepperbox, the seco0nd one, according to wikipedia, was able to fire all the barrels simultaneously (O__O).

Am I wrong? Would be cool a volley gun for the gunslinger! Hard to balance I guess. Maybe similar to the double crossbow, with more shots, but needing a full round, having a chance to misfire, and impossible to load in combat.

This gun would take forever to reload. I own a percussion revolver(pepperbox) from 1857. The little pistol takes a long time to reload I can't imagine making every barrel 3 feet long and how long that would take.

On the all barrels firing the pepperbox pistol does that too randomly sometimes. It is a horrifying experience. So bad that I never shot the damn gun again.

Yes it has coolness factor but no way in hell for real life there is a reason these things were rare

There were two version of that type/style of weapon and one of them was meant to have the option to to fire all barrels at once. You should be sure which one you have.

Also, the weapon maybe be old enough to be malfunctioning, it could heat up (the older metallurgy does not have the heat dispensation of newer models) and be cooking off all the barrels at once, you could be using the wrong type of powder load for the weapon.

Irregardless, "new weapons" of this type and style in the "present" tense would not have these issues as they wouldnt be old, and would have the right kind of powder because more advanced powder wouldnt exist.

Also as far as reloading goes, you would do that outside of combat. In between fights. It's rare my current gunslinger gets off more than 10-12 shots in a combat, by then everything is usually dead.

Im thinking about a pepperbox long gun for an inquisitor character Im starting, with the bigger ammo and longer shooting distance, coupling in judgements and bane, i seriously doubt anything will be standing after 6 shots have gotten off.

For inspiration, check out these guns.

Totally safe for work (despite an adult content warning on the blog)... really is just guns.

Actually there are historical accounts of.these things misfiring all the time. The gun I have is suppose to shoot one barrel at a time but sometimes the other barrels cook off and of course being powder they all launch randomly so you don't know which way it is going to pull next.

It is quite an exciting(never do that again) experience.

Second gun is what I have. I have 2 of them to be exact both have been reworked even after that one was still considered unusable. The safe one fired 8 shots then cooked off.

Your experience with all barrels blazing unexpectedly does sound traumatic. But at least they're beautiful to look at. I don't have any guns save a Red Ryder pellet gun (I'm the scourge or beverage cans everywhere), but I could see collecting these works of art in a display case.

That 24 barrel one makes my wrist hurt looking at it. At a point like that I'd just switch back to a blunderbuss or something more akin to a shotgun. If your going to spray shot everywhere, may as well do it in a more controlled way,
