I've been considering a bard for Serpents' Skull (a sea-singer, to be specific, even if most of the campaign has nothing to do with the ocean). I just figure a sailor or piratey-sort could make for a nice thematic transition into the campaign.
Problem is, I know that the bard will need to have things to do besides cast--but I'm not sure precisely how often. ;-) I'm currently planning around the halfling bard concept (which suggests making an archer of some sort) but given the sailor-theme, I thought stirring in a smidge (maybe 1-3 levels?) of gunslinger might be fun, and give the bard something to do when hesitant to cast.
That said, I was wondering if anyone has tried mixing a few levels of gunslinger in to another class, since the update--does it provide reasonable functionality? I've no doubt I'd have to invest in things like Deadly Aim, Point blank shot, and such. I'd prefer to avoid paper cartridges if possible--the GM wants to make firearms pretty rare.
Thoughts?

I'd actually go Arcane Duelist or Soundstriker Bard. Gunslinger Should been taken to 5th level to allow you dex damage on your range attacks. This is a very "El Mariachi" Character, So there should be more of a balance between the classes. gunslinging can be your man for of combat, but Arcane Duelist or Soundstriker make you an interesting caster. Level three bardspells are your friend.
My suggested builds to 11
Bard4/Gunslinger7
Gunslinger5/Arcane Duelist6
Soundstriker6/Gunslinger3/Duelist2
Bard6/Gunslinger3/Alchemist2

Soundstriker6/Gunslinger3/Duelist2
Bard6/Gunslinger3/Alchemist2
Why have I never thought of that?! It's so frikken obvious, too.
I let player have a guitar case of holding (weapons only) for his bard way back in 2E days. Now that character is would be so awesome.

I know that bard/ranger archer works well. Only slightly behind on BAB compared to a full ranger, and lots of interesting skill points and abilities.
I'm no gunslinger expert, but it seems to me that once you have the basic gun fighting feats you mentioned above, you'll do ok. From there, it's mostly about BAB, and bards do okay there. When you add in inspire courage and haste and all that, I think it will balance vs. the higher level gunfighter abilities.
And take the quickdraw feat. a gun takes a hand, a spell takes a hand, and a melee weapon takes a hand. QD allows you to react to changing circumstances.
