Amateur gunslinger

Gunslinger Discussion: Round 2

This feat does something no other feat does mainly grant someone access to another class' main feature without the need for multiclassing. Does this feat mean we will see feats like amateur monk granting ki pool and ki powers? Or amateur ranger granting a limited version of favored enemy?

If the gunslinger has to be its own class I think we should let grit be unique to that class. You can easily be an amateur gunslinger by taking proficiency in a firearm and blazing away no need to copy the main feature of another class.

Considering the feat investment - Exotic Weapon Proficiency, Amateur Gunslinger, the many grit feats, and the healthy amount of feats it takes to be good at ranged combat at all - no character is ever going to have the time to become as good as the gunslinger.

I agree. The way it works, Gunslingers are secure enough in their spotlight to let others have a little extra fun with their guns.

Of course the gunslinger will be the best at what he does, just that this seems like a radical change in design choices for feats. As far as I know Amateur gunslinger is the only feat that actually emulates the main feature of a class.

To be honest, I'd love to see more feats that give low-level access to other class features. It'd be a great way to get some multiclass flavor without actually dipping.

Amatuer Desciple
Requirements: Wis 13+, Improved Unarmed Strike
Benefit: You gain an amount of ki per day equal to 1 + your wis modifier. YOu can spend this ki on any of the basic ki pool abilities (except flurry of blows, unless you already have that class feature).
Special: If you gain the ki pool class feature, this feat counts as the extra ki feat.

Being that this is coming from a book called "Ultimate Combat", it's very likely that they already have other feats in mind granting things like limited access to Rage, Ki, Talents, Favored Enemy, etc.

Ultimately though, Guns need Grit to overcome the severe drawbacks to using them. They are an exotic weapon that have more issues than the crossbow.

The feat open access to usability of an exotic weapon. It's a shame that's tied to the Gunslinger's class feature, but that's how they set up the gun in Golarion.
