Happy Lupercalia!
Also when the doc is checking you for signs of mental changes that's a bad answer.
Also I was in the hospital this week.
EVERYTHING was designed by midgets. Seriously I get when equipment can't handle my width, I"m into veterinary medicine there. But I'm only around 6 2.
They had new med students come use me as a practice dummy. I suggested getting me an alcka seltzer tablet and going "Braaaaaiiiins" Doc sees the dungeons and dragons books on the shelf and wonders if nerds can just sense each other, because one of the students around around the corner and had a "are you prepared for the zombie apocalypse" pin.

So, California's trying to secede again, which is always entertaining.
Will California ever be allowed to secede? This map says, "No."
(For those who don't trust links, in terms of net Federal money, California's one of 11 states that fund the other 39. So we're a cash cow. End of secession discussion.)
I mean.... yes. But if CA weren't attached at the hip to the rest of the USA their economy wouldn't be what it is. That and all of CA's IP patents are held by the USA, not the state of CA itself. Also, if CA is so flush with ca$h, why can't they balance their state budget? And why can't they build high speed rail faster than one meter of finished track per year at the cost of ~$100k/meter?
London however could cede from GB and be just fine I think. Finance, like illicit drugs, travels across boarders like they aren't even there.

No access to the sea, though, and it'd be surrounded by the rest of the country , unless it had a reasonably large hinterland. It'd also be dependent on another entity for defence and would find it pretty difficult to police its borders.

I'd guess California conservatives are to blame, but I could certainly be wrong. Having easy access to Mexico and ports to reach Canada and others would help, but there's a lot of pitfalls that likely make it unattractive.

We've got various counties in Illinois passing non-binding resolutions to secede and create their own state, as they feel Illinois politics is centered lopsidedly towards Chicago.
...
But...
Um...
Speaking as someone who does not live in the Chicago Metro Area...
Chicago and the surrounding suburbs is just shy of 75% of the state's population. Yeah, farm communities are important, and we need to have policies that help them, but 75% of our people are located in 10% of the state's counties. Something tells me there's a reason we focus on that part of the state more.
So...back to the secession idea...what exactly are you going to do for an economy, tax base, etc, etc, etc as your own state? Genuinely curious if anybody has logically thought that one through beyond "I hate Chicago".

hello, everyone. I realize that it's been a while. But I was in the hospital for fie months.. Worst news first. i believe that everyone knows about my pituitary tumor. So in August, I was sent to the hospital. There, it was determined that the entire gland needed removal.
During the operation, I had a stroke. Then I needed months of therapy.
I was discharged December the eighth. So I was home for the holidays.
I'm glad to see that everyone else is well. DAMN, it's ggood to be home.
Hey. I'm John Napier 698's brother. I wanted to inform his friends on here that, last Wednesday, he was found deceased in his bed. He appeared to have died peacefully in his sleep.
I know that this group was important to him, and I thought he might like you to know.
John actually introduced me to gaming, way back in or around 1986, with Traveller. He, my brother Dennis, and I also had a long-standing D&D group that met every Sunday until Dennis passed. RPG's and computer games were a HUGE part of John's life - and mine - and some of his favorite memories that he would share with me were moments from the games he was involved in. The last thing he told me he was working on was creating an EMP missile for Starfinder.
If you thought of John as a friend, or thought fondly of him, dedicate your next critical hit to him.
Thanks.

Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;
For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be,
Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery.
Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well
And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally
And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.
GNU, John. A man is not truly dead so long as his name is spoken.
