Why would they do that? (The schoolboard, not the library.)

But it's the same thing, your final research presentation followed by a grilling question period by your supervisory committee, at the conclusion of which you receive a PHD.
Edit: It would actually be your examination committee not a supervisory committee 2 different bodies. Sorry for the mix up :P
Yep. Dissertation Defense. If only life in general could be so successful. If you people paid more attention to every little detail of my life, you'd be less confused in general. Or is it the other way around? I will argue either thesis for $.

Well it seems to have been banned for various reasons over the years. I am not sure why now.
In the past it has been things such as:
"contains and makes references to religious matters" and thus fell within the ban of the establishment clause. (1973)
(1985) because of "foul language, a section depicting a picture of an act of bestiality, a reference to 'Magic Fingers' attached to the protagonist's bed to help him sleep, and the sentence: 'The gun made a ripping sound like the opening of the fly of God Almighty."'
(1986) because of "language used in the book, depictions of torture, ethnic slurs, and negative portrayals of women."
(1987) because "the book contains foul language and promotes deviant sexual behavior.”
(1998) because the book "was rife with profanity and explicit sex"
(2006) A board member, elected amid promises to bring her Christian beliefs into all board decision-making, raised the controversy based on excerpts from the books she'd found on the internet.
(2007) because of the book's strong sexual content.
the two Italicised I find really funny since one was an atheist and wanted it out because of religion, without reading the book; while the other wanted it out for religious purposes without actually reading it

Great. New Hampshire Land Sharks. As if it weren't tough enough around here.
My wife is from New Hampshire. I'm going to have to make some jokes about this later.

I can't recall a case where banning a book has done anything other than spark interest in it.
Too true. I can understand thinking that maybe a book because of extreme subject matter might want to be limited or restricted, but banned?????
You might as well put a neon sign up saying "read this now."

I had the near scariest event of my life yesterday.
My older brother has been on bottled oxygen for the last week now do to a combination of dialysis and diabetes. His hemoglobin has not been utilizing his oxygen properly. We, the family, were warned by his physician that we should keep an eye on him in case he passes out and cannot revive himself. After using the bathroom Sunday morning, he stood, fell, smashed his face against the bathroom door. The worse of it was yet to come.
He had heart attack and stopped breathing. My brother flat-lined for nearly five minutes. To make short work a combination of CPR, 9-11, and the rapid response of the county's EMTs, all nine of them, was able to stabilize and revive a heartbeat. As of late, has been prepped with coolant packs to lower his body temperature and remains comatose for the last 30 hours. He's still not out of the woods and I will not know until Thursday at the earliest.
I'm off to see him this afternoon. Wish me luck.

It sounds horrific, but remember this is the lawsuit, which is only one side of the story. Not to excuse the school, but this presentation is naturally biased.
