Spoiler:
In a way, many people seem to think of the president as a king. They ignore every race down-ballot, because the president is assumed to have authority over every other government official, whether local, state, or federal.

They praise or blame the president based on the economy, because his royal scepter commands it. (Obviously a president has some limited influence over the economy, but mostly it does what it's gonna do.)

And they generally assume that the president's holy sword commands not only the military but anything governmental with ambiguous or unknown leadership/workings.

snip

So, admittedly, GothBard's company was a class act about it. "Here's a one-time $500 payment to get all the equipment you need. Now here's $100/month for any additional expenses for working from home."

snip

There is less transportation expense, and there is maybe less eating expense (still gotta eat, I took my lunch a lot instead of eating out).

The things I have been using are the consumables. Paper for printer. Ink/toner cartridges. Batteries for mouse/keyboard. Correction tape. File folders. Legal pads.

Minutes on cell phone (I have unlimited data, not unlimited phone calls). The firm does not pay my cell phone bill.

But probably not 300/mo worth.

I was actually hoping you'd pipe up, since legal work obviously has quite a few more costs involved than software development. But Global Megacorp pays for corporate cell phones, so that's one they're not paying.

We avoided it where I currently work as we had screens on those arms that are detachable, so people who did not have a decent work setup just unscrewed the screens from the desk and took those home (with OK from the boss).

And I have a good home setup with dual screens and a good keyboard and a good mouse. But that is because I game a lot and internet a lot.
But a few years ago I would not have had all these stuff and it would ment I had to do a lot of typing from a laptop on my couch and that would have let to phisical complaints real quick. While I would not have had the cash to buy myself a good chair and an extra monitor.
So at least a one time decent amount of money would have been needed to avoid wrist/back pain.

And I dont know what your coworkers have in ways of choice of ISP, but having grown up in an area that only had coverage of one ISP, they were able to get away with some pretty horrible stuff, as there was no one else ding phone and internet.

So, we've had many discussions, gripes, and tirades about good vs. bad managers, but this heartwarming little story provides a very overt lesson to managers willing to pay attention.

The Taco Bell manager must have been made aware that two young girls were using Taco Bell's wireless network to do their homework. That manager made a conscious decision not to shoo them off, because what's a few pennies in data fees, if even that?

Think about how many managers you've had who would have heartlessly thrown the girls off the property because they were using the wireless network without making a purchase. Now consider what you thought of them as managers.

So, the manager chose to let it slide.

And Taco Bell now has a multimillion-dollar public relations coup on their hands. Because the manager chose not to be a jerk.

Nice job, manager! I'd give you a hefty raise if you were my employee!

Geez, COVID, you make life hard for obsessive-compulsives!

So, I like to stay busy, both at home and at work. GothBard frequently complains that I'm always in motion so she can't even have a reasonable conversation with me without hiking all over the house. When I run out of useful work to do, I complain to my manager about it.

Well, thanks to COVID, most of our major product updates got pushed to 2021. Meaning that in spite of the fact that I'm now in charge of four full courses, I have to update... four lessons this quarter. Usually I do around 60.

I think I may start trying to help the devs just so I can generate some work for myself. Otherwise I'm going to perish of boredom.

I don't idle well.

I've been to quite a few places that wouldn't give you the password to the wi-fi until you bought something, up to the point of putting it on your receipt. And they changed it daily, so you couldn't come in with yesterday's password.

Today, one of my kindergarteners couldn't find the big orange cooler full of ice water that I use for refilling the children's water bottles (all the fountains have been turned off for Covid mitigation). I'd had to move the cooler because the place it usually sits was outside the roof line, and we were having a proper southern downpour.

So she what seemed reasonable to her under the circumstances: she saw the water shooting out of the downspout from the rain gutter, and filled her bottle from that. I jumped up from the lesson I was giving to rush out to the porch and stop her before she drank, put on my blue gloves, washed it in super hot water and antibacterial soap, filled it with clean water, and gave it back to her.

Lord only knows what's in our school rain gutters, but I know what I've pulled out of mine over the years, and no one needs to drink from that.

Borderlands 3 sale on Humble Store... Would be more attractive if I had a computer capable of running it smoothly...

Uh...

Why the publisher brags about shortcomings of their game?!

There is fourth tier with one game that I already have and an expansion for Fell Seal... Argh. They know how to tempt...

Borderlands 3 is significantly inferior to 1 or 2, though it's definitely better than the prequel; we actually played all the way through it and played a couple of the DLCs, unlike the prequel that we tried (and quit) twice.

You keep saying this, and I will keep saying that Prequel has better story and characters than Borderlands 1, even if the level design is more clunky.

Well, the story and characters don't much matter if the level design and gameplay is so bad you give up on playing.

But yes, I'll agree that BL3's story is pretty amazingly stupid and frustrating. But at least I can play the game without quitting in frustration...

That surprises me a bit. I played it and while there were moment of frustration, I had no big issues that would make me quit. Just an occasional annoyance and, after some time, feeling that that the flow of game is inferior to B2 (IIRC I played Presequel before B1, which I got later). There weren't things that would made me quite - though some fights I had to keep repeating timne after time, especially early on (I think that was the first boss that was giving me a repeated challenge, I don't really remember why, I think I might had crap weapons at that time).

I'm running an online game tonight. I don't really like the same programs as a GM as I do a player, though - Roll20 and Fantasygrounds are too damn much work to program and change on the fly.

I just want something I can use for drawing maps everyone can see, and moving tokens around - I don't need all the rest, as we use dice rollers and voice on Discord, and I'm a bit old school and write up all my stats for monsters, treasures, and stuff manually in my notepad. Mostly this is because I improvise A LOT, and this particular game is a sandbox anyway.

So I'm looking for recommendations on the absolute quickest, easiest way to just put up a drawing and make it shareable and editable by others with ZERO need to pre-program anything. I f&&+ing hate novel-style railroad b*&++%## as a GM. Any thoughts?

I felt BL2 pre-sequel was too slow and clunky. I played it for quite a while, and it never grabbed me the way that Borderlands or BL2 did. Pre-sequel drops you in the action and then grinds to a f%@@ing halt the minute you hit the moon - and doesn't pick back up for quite a while. I honestly don't know if it ever does, because frankly, I made it to the town and kept going, and it STILL didn't grab my interest, and finally just quit. Meanwhile, I beat both BL1 and BL2 and was aching for more by the time I finished everything BL2 had to offer (though by the end of BL1 I was such a powerhouse it wasn't even a challenge when I got to the DLC).

As stated, the story and characters don't matter if the game itself is boring. If I wanted to watch a movie, I'd watch a movie.

If you have a little bit of savvy and a decent phone camera - download OBS (free), link camera to OBS stream (this may be a bit of software on the phone. iOS version costs 15$. Not sure about android).

Then screen share your OBS application in discord. Alternatively, if you have webcam, you can use OBS with that and screen share, or use the video chat function of discord to share your webcam pointed at battlement.

Edit: this will not be editable by others, but you can edit it at their instruction.
