He's...what...10 now? Icyshadow, I mean. We all know Tiny T-Rex is secretly a 107-yr-old master of ancient knowledge who has come down from his mountain to reacquaint himself with humanity.

He's 9 now, as surprising as that is (I know it still surprises me).

It is surprising, I feel I like was reading about his antics since forever.

Throws birthday confetti all around

Unfortunately, for me, today is, "Start in on painting the ceiling of WhimseyShire black."

Painting ceilings is enough of a nightmare without a roomful of furniture you don't want to get paint on... and fricking black paint.

(On the other hand, the amusement of yesterday is that I dropped a roller full of yellow paint while climbing the ladder and it hit me in the crotch, so now I have a permanent yellow stain on the crotch of my pants, and I figure, "Meh, it's just painting pants," and keep wearing them...)

We did our taxes before Covid.

If people think Paizo's customer service needs improvement they obviously haven't tried calling material yards around the Midwest.

I had a favorite baseball cap I got white paint all over after helping my dad paint.

My friends all said it looked like a bunch of birds shit on it. I dismissed them at first because it was super comfortable, but then actual birds started shitting on it and I had to throw it away.

Hello, everyone.

Grand Lodge

Hiya John!

What co-worker doesn't realize is every day I've been cleaning the trailer a little bit, so what he expects will take me an hour or two I actually got done in twenty minutes.

Customer service in most places is so terrible that it would take less time to list places that are even semi-competent on that front. I can count on one hand the number of positive interactions I've had with business reps.

It's almost all small businesses that don't suck. Larger corporations tend to know you have no choice but to deal with them. Nobody shops at Walmart for their service, no matter what their employee training videos say. I am surprised when I worked there as a teen the video didn't play a rimshot and a laugh track when it said that.

Small businesses do trend to helpful within certain industries. Cycle shops (like peddle power, not motorcycles) I find are an exception. The gear heads there are generally unfriendly to the newbs.

Once you have spent enough and can talk the talk, then you can get help, but the entry barrier is high. REI (which I do not consider small) consistently has better service for my bikes.

I would actually put the LGS in the generally unfriendly category - at least until you can prove your nerd credibility. My wife is generally tolerant of lots of different levels of nerd, but she won't go in any of the local stores without a male nerd escort.

I’ve definitely seen LGS’s that treat you like garbage as soon as you walk in the door. It really puzzles me how some of them stay in business.

I’ve only seen a few that really put the “friendly” back in FLGS.

We're just now feeling better.

You know you would hope during a pandemic you could avoid illnesses borne of lazy hand washing.

There is almost nothing that exists as a legally organized concern in the US that serves food-like-products that's as wretched as Taco Bell.

Not defending Google, but fiber cuts actually happen quite a bit more often than most people hear about.

Not defending Google, you say.

So noted.

We'll remember that.

Really, the SMELL keeps more people away than the service, in my experience. My ex couldn't even walk in the door of the three in town back in Jax.

Why is it so hard to wear deodorant and wash with soap?

Seriously, I want to know why. This isn't a joke. Why? It takes so very little time.

Happy birthday, Tiny T-Rex!

This is actually why Scint chose the FLGS she did - it was the only one of the three she visited in the area that didn't make her feel unwelcome just for walking in.

Basically the same way free-to-play/pay-to-win games on mobile phones do, I'd guess. A small core of highly-dedicated, big-spending fans/customers supplemented by the regular occasional smaller purchase from other participants here and there.

I always wondered why most of the people at Pegasus treated me like shit, despite shopping there for years.

I figured they didn't like kids because I almost always had one or both with me.

About a month after they closed I found out from the one guy that worked there who I got along with that the reason was because everyone else that worked there was good friends with my douchebag brother and so they decided to dump on me since he wasn't there to dump on me.

Big vs. Little

I started a Roth IRA for Impus Major, figuring I'd do something for him my parents never did for me. 18 months later, I mentioned it to my accountant, who said, "Oh, you can't do that! He doesn't have any income! You can only put in as much as you make in a year! File a form to get it out, NOW!"

So, I contacted the broker. They said, "Here's the form."
I filled out the form and submitted it. Two weeks passed. Nothing.
I called them again. "Oh, you had the date on the form wrong, I can fix that. OK! You're all taken care of!"
Two weeks passed. Nothing.
I called them a third time. "I don't understand why this hasn't gone through; it all looks in order. Let me escalate it for you."
Two weeks passed. Nothing.
I called and closed the account. They were aghast and said, "You know there'll be a significant tax penalty, right? How much do you want to withhold?"
"None of it. Give me all my fricking money back."

They did. I warned my accountant that we would be having IRS trouble. HIS response?

"Bring it."

Is that also hang on hold for an hour then do pointless tests on the divice for way to long because the rep has to go trough the script then wait for confirmation email and if you dont get that or something is wrong in the email go trough the whole spiel again?

Co-worker: While I'm gone if want to look at the plan and extrapolate where you can cut off the edging

*Promptly takes plan with him*

However, while he was talking to the electrician I had already marked everything out.

Also, I figured out why he was in such a hurry to leave as five minutes after he left we got a big ass delivery that I had to unload myself because they sent Lil Tyler to drop it off.

On the plus side, I now get to write my name on ALL the new tools.

And honestly, my method of "extrapolating" was figuring out where the patio and steps are going and then hacking it off at some arbitrary point outside of that.

It's plastic edging not rocket science.

small victory regarding nephew:

Got nephew to commit to meeting his sister once the school hollidays start!
Sister has been out of the house for a few years because she saw what an emotional abusive piece of shit her mother was and dicided to leave. Que mother shitting all over her own daughter and making threats. Also then blaming everything on daughter and of course telling this all to nephew.
So that he's willing to see her is hopefully him diciding things for himself instead of blindly going with everything his mother says.
Of course he's seeing his mother for the first time in weeks tomorrow, so she might still forbid him from seeing his sister. But if he suddenly says he doesnt want to see her anymore we know its her, not him. But burn that bridge when it happens.

Nice step forward.

We have two Tylers at work, both of them outdoors enthustiasts, but one is super little and doesn't do shit, besides drive around and tell other people what to do (we've never worked together, for obvious reasons) and the other one is bigger and not afraid to work, but is still annoying in his own way.

Spoiler:
Asking for those things will be hard. We're only aunt and uncle.

So, more story why the rest is hard:

A few weeks back, the nephew texted us out of the blue, asking if he could stay with us. He's stayed with us before, but only during school vacations.
We said he could come. He only replied with 'I'm packing the last of my stuff then I'm taking the first bus your way'.
So he emediately came over.

We didnt ask him why he suddenly dicided. Coming from so much abuse, we figure its easier to just take him in. Any questions might form a barrier.

So the next day. On freaking facebook, we read that his mom has been taken into protective custody and her phone would be confiscated.
That was the message.
She did not text or call or mail her son.
Not that day.
Not the next day.
Or the next.

On saturday, nephew does a round of mail. He was adamant he'd do it. We then had to tell him, do you know what is going on back home. He did not know. We told him we only knew his mom was taken into protective custody. He was upset about this.
I was freaking furious she'd choose to tell facebook, but not her own son.

He later send het a few text, and a few hours later she finally called him.

Fast forward a few days later. We had vague hopes she had finally drawn a line in the sand. But of course now.
What had happened was that the boyfriend was acting up. Since nothing can be the mothers fault, and she always justifies the boyfriends behaviour, nephew was send to us.
Later the boyfriend still went a$*&@!@. She and the youngest kid had hidden in the laundry room untill he stopped raging.

This had greatly upset the youngest kid, who the next day was out of sorts at school. The teachers had managed to pry the story out of her and called the authorities, after which the mother and the kid were taken in.

So now the mother is looking to move out of that house, and to a new city. Because she is finally done with the relationship (she was done two times before and took him back in again and again. This has been going on for years.

But new city means new school for nephew. We're also afraid if his mom suspects us of 'meddeling' she will manipulate nephew and we wont see him for a long time. Last time we tried, she cut off all ties and we did not see or hear from him again for over a year.

Damn, that's really f*cked up. Those poor kids. I'm offering you virtual hugs, but that seems really insufficient.
