They aren't being a problem right now. I would just prefer if they weren't here. Although, they are eating pizza, so I'm going to have some cleaning up to do later.

One of my pet peeves is when people leave their trash for me to clean up particularly empty alcohol bottles and cans.

No time for naked now I am complaining about work!

Oh yeah. There have been several times that I've had to fill an entire 40-gallon trash bag with cans and bottles, many of which were not even empty.

They've gone for now. I can see that they left the pizza boxes out there. I can't tell from here what else they may have left. And I really don't want to go look. I think I'll leave it for later.

In other news, I started playing Slay the Spire. It's okay, but I'm a little annoyed. I like the Defect class's concept, but I just can't seem to make it work for me. So far I've gotten to the City boss 3 or 4 times, but cannot defeat it. I've climbed to the top twice each with the Ironclad and Huntress, but can't quite figure out the Defect.

Is that a PC game?

Yeah.

Best it's taken care off. Tell us how it goes.

Defect is easy. I'm somewhat of a defect expert. Aim for lightning chain, get electrodynamics, blow everything to kingdom come.

You'll want defragmentation power and inserter artifact, or capacitor power, which ever type of defect playing style.

Else do frost orb cycle with claw. Cool headed upgraded is very important.

Its silent that gets my goat. I'm on acension 3 on all 3 classes.

You should try to get self repair power. And upgrade zap to 0 cost as soon as possible.

Well that game sounds interesting.

Yeah, I'm trying to do that. But when you aren't given the option to pick up any of those cards, there's not much you can do about it.

The Exchange

Sometimes some runs are just unwinnable. I did a frost lightning hybrid deck before but you really need lots of orb slots via capacitor/inserter and Defrag.

Buffer is also very good and must be upgraded asap. Else it isn't worth it. Amplify + buffer =negate 4 hits worth of damage. Stuff like auto shields, genetic algorithm(if you can get it in act 1) is good for defense, as is boot sequence and charge battery.

I never learnt to use darkness or plasma.

The Exchange

Hyperbeam is a trap, it's good to have a sweeping beam or two for multiple adds, as well as card draw. Biased cognition must be used carefully, usually as a finisher. My BF does the biased cognition thing better then I do.

I find dual cast and recursion a waste of time(perhaps those are for darkness decks), but storm and tempest are good at filing lightning orbs fast.

The Exchange

Oh for a frost claw deck, hologram, upgraded to pull out your claws is very, very good. Also all for one, upgrade go for the eyes to give 2 weak.

With a cat, it had to be claws, right?

I just picked up a relic, the Orrery, that lets you add 5 cards to your deck and didn't get Capacitor, Electrodynamics, Defragment, basically any of the really good cards.

The Exchange

Aww just your luck, hope you get luckier next time. Also try to remove your strikes since defects don't use strikes.

It sounds like something I would like.

I'm actually doing fairly well right now. I just beat the City boss. Got an Inserter for doing so.

You might check it out Vid. It's only like $16, so it's not a huge loss if you don't like it. Hit up YouTube, watch some plays. I have only watched some of Day9's, and he isn't the most serious player, but he is kind of funny.

The Exchange

Come on Gran, you're being guided by a defect-cat! =)

With an inserter you can run consume for focus.

Don't have consume right now. Give me a couple of minutes and I'll post my deck as it is now.

I will say that things have gotten a lot better on this run.

Here we go!:

Cards:
2x Strike
Strike +
4x Defend
Zap +
Dualcast
2x Melter
4x Self Repair +
Tempest +
3x Storm +
2x Cold Snap
Hologram
Capacitor
Ball Lightning
Recursion
Thunder Strike
Capacitor +
Reinforced Body
FTL
2x Claw
Streamline +
Buffer +
3x Claw +
Hello World +
Panacea +
Go for the Eyes
2x Defragment +
Leap +
Echo Form +
White Noise +
2x Madness +
Double Energy +
Hologram +

Relics:
Cracked Core (staring relic)
Orichalcum
Tiny Chest
Frozen Egg
Orrery
Toxic Egg
Happy Flower
Vajra
Inserter
Runic Dodecahedron
Meat on the Bone
Kunai
Incense Burner

I basically start each match playing the 3 Storm+ cards, since they are innate, and then go from there.

I just beat it. Never did find an Electrodynamics.

The Exchange

Gran - your deck size is too big, try to keep < 25 cards, to be honest. Its easier to control. But well I'm not gonna critique too much, whatever that works.

And grats for finishing slay the spire on defect! =D

if you don't get cards you want sometimes its better not to take any rewards.

The Exchange

Hello World +
Panacea +
White Noise +

Too random imo, I don't use them.

Streamline + - you need to cycle your deck fast if you want to run a streamline deck.

2x Melter - not my kind of style.

Your deck seems to be lighting + claw /slight frost, and probably at higher ascension levels you would have difficulty due to the lack of focus of your deck.

I also don't use double energy.

But that's just my honest critique.

You guys are just using random word generators at this point.

The Exchange

We are talking about the deep secrets of slay the spire, which will appear to be gibberish to the uninitiated.

I prefer my decks...more focused and pure kinda, but yeah sometimes RNG just gives you weird sh*t which I ended up with the frost lightning deck.

I'm watching a video of it now. Hmm looks like a deck building game with combat animation. I am intrigued.

The Exchange

I'm left with 2 slides for mob insertion for ironfang invasion Book 4,then once I put fog of war on, we'll be done for book 4 prep.

Well third to worst second to worst is the canoeing club and thats because their parents are the most stuck up yuppiest People I've ever witnessed. "What do you mean I have to walk all the way down to the end of the hall to get to my room"

The very worst being the drug task force officers who stay with us. regularly. we've had to ban 3 of them for sexually harassing our staff, they let their drug sniffer dogs (we do not allow pets mind you) to just hang out in their rooms and do their business. and they track mud everywhere. not to mention everyone of them that I talked to was abrasive. Frankly Id rather have the drug addicts instead of those guys.

Having chaperoned overnight trips for both middle schoolers and high schoolers for a while now, my take is that:

  • In general, the girls' rooms are better than the boys' rooms, in that for most of the girls' rooms, the ambient noise level is lower, and the mess is an order of magnitude less.
  • However, the worst rooms are always girls' rooms. There are always 2-3 groups of girls who have no concept of people around them possibly wanting to sleep, nor hotel staff having to clean up after them. The entire hotel stay is one big slumber party where someone else has to clean up in the morning.
And boy, you don't know fun 'til the hotel assigns its security guard to your floor because your girls won't shut the **** up.

  • Last year was nice: The choir director said, "If a single room behaves as badly as the rooms did the year before, we're all getting on the buses and going home."

Not a single noise complaint on the entire trip.

It just baffles me. How hard is it to understand the concept of, "You have neighbors and the walls are paper-thin?"

Finally, yeah. Having hung out with quite a few officers over the years, the 15-20% who are amazing, stand-up people is massively outweighed by the 80-85% who are utter a$$hats.

    EDIT:

    Slightly Disturbing:
My absolute favorite being the officer, who, coming in to my parents' house to find my father dead of a fairly obviously self-inflicted gunshot wound, complete with suicide note, started treating my 76-year-old mother as the prime suspect in a murder case. I honestly think he would have cuffed her and made her sit in the patrol car if his superior hadn't told him to go wait outside.

There is nothing messier or grosser than a Midwestern high school basketball team during March Madness.

I'm just lucky I was on the banquet staff because those rooms the next morning, holy s*!$ were they f%%+ed up, every single one of them.

So, this may be a bit political, but it's mild enough I'll risk it.

The problem is with the way police academies train their officers.

They are taught, "Be in total control of every situation. Even a situation that seems harmless can blow up and get you killed."
That is absolutely accurate. Just how many domestic disturbance calls end up with an officer down?

Unfortunately, most academies then do absolutely nothing (useful) whatsoever to train officers as to what, "In total control," means, so most of them resort to, "Well, I'm just going to handcuff everyone, throw them in the squad car, and once the situation is under 'total control' I'll figure out what's going on."

Whether you're dealing with grieving widows who just lost their spouse of 40+ years, or ethnic groups with a long history of mistrust of the police, it's an a$$-backwards thing to do. It will escalate almost every situation.

You tend to be able to separate the good officers from the bad based almost entirely on how eager they are to cuff everybody up and get them in their cars before they've even talked to everyone.

EDIT: The *ONE* time in my life I've been held at gunpoint was by an officer trying to be "in total control". And I've been mugged twice, had an attempted mugging a third time, and been "associated" with a gang-related fight. (My friend picked the fight and it was a stupid fight, so I let him get beaten up because he deserved it. And it avoided him getting shot.)

    Good morning!

Seems like a good time to recommend some anime!

It's only 12 episodes, but Puella Magi Madoka Magica is a delightfully grim surprise.

The cover and splash page artwork makes it look like just yet another in the infinite line of, "Young awkward middle school girls can become Magic Girls (TM)".
But from the moment the first scene starts with ominous music and a dark, abstract art style you say, "Huh? Maybe this might be different."

By episode 3, things start getting dark.
By episode 10, you are thinking, "OMG, this is SOOOOOOOO beyond ****ed up!"

And it is a complete series with no hooks or gotchas or, "This is how we're going to fit in the next season" bits.

Nice series. I highly recommend it if you're into a darker twist on the whole "magic girls" thing.

Well, one of the *huge* advantages of growing up in the Bay Area is that you're taught from a very young age, "Consider how the other person is viewing the world, and deal with that."

So we could tell the officer was jittery and freaked out (Albany's shooting rate is something along the lines of one per 5-10 years), so we didn't scream at him or ask him WTF he was doing; we just waited for his superior to deal with him for us.
All in all, it ended up far calmer than it could have been because of it.
