I knew a guy named Nimrod in Seattle.
Was he a mighty hunter before the Lord?
As an aside, Bug's use of the word for mocking Elmer Fudd was actually a direct reference to the Biblical character - who was, in fact, a mighty hunter, "before the Lord" - and thus when Bugs used it, it was a sarcastic reference (as Fudd was clearly an enthusiastic, but poor hunter). From there, probably from vast public exposure via Loony Toons, and verbal similarity to words such as, "numbskull," or, "dim," it seems to have spread into common parlance as "stupid," even though it was originally simply sarcasm.

Re Drizzt.
*Looks like he's trying to remember something*
I guess I would the say the books were okay. Nothing spectacular though.
This is basically correct - I find the books tolerable, but nothing brilliant. Salvatore has done much better work, and the much-lauded original series (the Icewind Dale Trilogy) is, frankly, the least-interesting and most... eh... "straightforward"?... work of the lot. While it had a better over-arching plot and story, the character work was kind of shoddy, and I'm certain that this is where most people take a dim view to Drizzt over-all (as well as over-exposure to his various clones).
I certainly don't love most of Salvatore's D&D work, but some pieces shine through with genuine excellence.
Its been ages since I read one, so I might looking at them trough the rosy-tint of memory. What I do remember though is, that he wasn't my FR drow by far though, heck house Baenre has produced more interesting figures then him more then once.
People give Salvatore a lot of hardship, but, from my understanding, he basically invented FR-style drow. While they existed prior to his writing, they were rather unfleshed out - it was his presentation of the Lolth-dominated spider-revering leather-clad dark elves from the Drizzt books that began that now broadly-accepted trend.
It seems that Descent into the Depths of the Earth (specifically Vault of the Drow) preceded the novels by a good decade, but I'm uncertain how clear a picture that gave of drow society as we now envision it, espcially given that Eclavadra's whole... thing... with that story was leaving the worship of Lolth - and the Gord the Rogue book, Artifact of Evil preceded the Icewind Dale Trilogy by two years... but was supposed to be a heavily Greyhawk thing.
In any event, since I haven't read the Gord stuff or the old adventure stuff, I can't really comment - I can only give hearsay and suggest others do more research.
And while it's very valid to say, "I don't like his stuff." (as I do with Lucas' prequel trilogy), it's worth recognizing what it brought to the table - everything else. (Though this case is a definite, "maybe." ;D)

Impus Major: He doesn't know.
IMF: Tell your brother he's an idiot. The most entertaining aspects of this conversation are:
IMF's brother didn't know, either. So either the school did a terrible job of communicating when graduation was happening for them, or BOTH brothers are idiots. Both are distinct possibilities.
This summarizes my life with teenagers. The school rashly assumes they will communicate with me in some manner. They fail. Events are entirely missed. Huge 12-hour parties are planned at my home without my knowledge.
Anyone have a bomb shelter I can lease for 16 years 'til both my kids hit 30?
I think high schools should do what preschools do: assume the students are not capable of communicating accurately and spam the parents with multiple, detailed email reminders about each event.
Then the *parents* can ignore the reminders, not read the emails, and shrug and say, "Oh, I didn't know that."
Which they do. Because most parents are idiots.
Hey!
... fair.
(Also similar to Sharoth's attempts to communicate with me, but, in favor to me, I hadn't signed in to Paizo, like, at all... and when I did I didn't notice the small red dot? Look: it's a fair cop, is all I'm saying.)

Today's going to be an absolute pisser of a day.
At 10:00, I have my last admissions tour.
At 11:00, The Boss arrives on campus to give an admissions tour of her own. This means that (a) she's going to make all the faculty edgy, because (b) she will find a long list of things for which she can be pointedly disappointed in us, and (c) none of the teachers will get breaks (yes, it's against labor law and no, she doesn't care) because she'll want to drag teachers into the office instead for lengthy "little talks".And then I also have a birthday celebration in my class for one of my students, which means his parents will be there, and I also have the gal I desperately want to take over my position coming in during the afternoon to observe the classroom and then talk to me for the fourth time about the job because she still hasn't made up her mind. And I'm not sure if Xiao Zhang (the boss) is going to want to stay to talk to her as well. Or what time she will finally leave so we can all start breathing again.
Including today, 24 work days left.
No pressure, or anything, but I just want to tell you... good luck, and we're all counting on you.

They're trying to implement new web filtering systems at work. Their version of testing is to only have a handful of people at every location get put into the new system, so now we have a handful of people who can't work at every location.
Better than just unleashing it, yes, but still a horrible way of doing things.
Fun fact: The new web filtering system would allow them to sign into their clients' Citrix portals, but wouldn't let them actually launch any applications from within the portals. Great!
Please tell me it's allowing porn through while blocking legitimate work! Those are the BEST web filters!
Look, just teach a neural network how to respond to customers and management and then automate that part of your job.
I feel fairly certain, given both what you've reported and how well the NNs seem to be coming along that no one would be able to tell the difference, and you might just get a raise.
(Also a relevant and excellent idea: put a NN in charge of building your new web filtering system by teaching it to type code. It'll do the same job with the same error list, and also do so much more quickly than you standard human error. PURE WIN!)

Are you watching GF again? Saw two episodes on tv the other day - so good!
Unfortunately, it was just kind of "skip around the timeline day" or something, so it was part 1 of the S1 finale (the one about dreaming and Grunkle Stan), and then straight to "Northwest Mystery Noir" for some reason.

Drizz't was alright, but dwarves and evil assassins and such is where Salvatore shines.
Servant Of The Shard is hands down my favorite book he wrote, not a single bit of Drizz't.
And Dwahvel Tigerlillies, one of the coolest halfling mobsters you'll ever meet.
i truly hate salvatore and the role he played in making forgotten realms my most hated campaign setting.
But I f@!+ing loved servant of the shard. Excellent descriptions of evil magic items, evil spellcasters, and how a mostly evil adventuring party would work in general.
Loved that rhyming dwarf.

Jake is the rebel beefcake in a leather jacket that statutory raped Kelly from 90210 and was awarded with his own spin-off (Melrose Place).
And now you know, the rest of the story.
Mostly I was saying Tequila can be the beefcake, it's probably best the statutory rape is left out entirely.

Yeah I know I’ll get stuff thrown at me, but I did NOT like Servants of the Shard.
I don’t like reading about evil adventuring parties, period. I did try playing way of the wicked with an evil character, and I’ve told you about it before, but it left me with a sick taste in my mouth. I did it for science, so that I could see what it looked like on the other side.
I read as a form of escapism. I like fantasy stories where the good guys triumph in the end, just so that I can escape mundane reality where you get to see all kinds of crap happen to good people, and morally dubious people get away with all kinds of stuff.
So I have no interest in reading about evil adventuring parties and generally in downer endings. The Ghost King...well I can appreciate Cadderly’s sacrifice and his eternal vigil – I would have done the same in his place. But I’ve sort of given up on the series also because it got a little too dark for my taste.
The attitude carries through into PBPs. I dictate NO evil alignments, in part due to my personal sensibilities, and also for pragmatism, as I have seen games fall apart because someone was just being a d1ck and screwing the party over and saying, oh because my character is evil I can do it for the lulz. You can argue that even with non evil characters that can happen – but I feel it’s easier for that to happen with evil characters.
Then one might ask, why are you playing Witcher series? I like the story, and at the end of the day you’re trying to make a fked up world less fked up. Sure humanoids being what they are, at the end of the day no one walks off happy, but at least you do see a couple of hope spots here and there, and a few positive things happening.

I tried eating ornamental oranges before. I thought it was a waste that the oranges were dropping off the plant and generally just thrown away, so I ate one. Bad idea. They were super sour and I'm not doing that again. I know why people don't eat them now.
