Because it's Oakland, we went to a house/goat-warming party last night. Some friends bought a new house, and then bought two pygmy goats.
I can look at, hold, etc. someone else's new baby and find it adorable and yet feel NO DESIRE WHATSOEVER to have another one of my own, but those chubby little kid goats?
Luckily my daughter started asking when we could get goats, too, so I could snap to my senses and start listing all the reasons it would be a bad idea.
Reason no. 1 where we live? Tragic coyote bait.

So, last night was pretty fun but pretty weird all around (Kreator/Sabaton concert with a bunch of 16-year-olds), but NobodysWife(!!) insisted on getting in to Berkeley half an hour early, so we found ourselves in a bookstore.
There, prominently displayed was Death Note. So I pondered getting it, then thought, "Nah, I won't get it unless someone else gets something."
Impus Major got himself a really weird-looking manga called, Goodnight somethingorother, so now I have the Death Note manga and I can compare it to the anime.
Why can't more studios be like the one that did One-Punch Man and just translate the manga to anime?
It's still my all-time favorite anime, and it's likely because they just followed the manga and didn't try to deviate from the script.
I've been bitter towards Peter Jackson for exactly that reason. During an interview about the making of The Lord of the Rings, he said something along the lines of, "The problem with filming a book is that if you just commit what's written on the page to the screen, line by line, page by page, you're going to end up with an incredibly boring movie. But even though you have to change things, you should change as little as possible. You might change who says an important line, but you don't delete the line. You might delete a scene because it would make the movie too long, but you don't add scenes."
It was something like that, which made me really hopeful that he'd make a great trilogy.
Then he rewrote Aragorn (my absolute favorite character) to be a whiny wuss who never wanted to be king in the first place.

I would say to stay off of Twitter. It tends to be a worse drama party than Facebook.
You can try to popularize your blog there, but you can easily regret it.

That was a nice weekend.
On Friday, I went over to Actual Lady Longears (Diamond Edition)'s house, where we got out the African recipe book (ALL (DE) is Afro-British; I am not) and cooked chicken in groundnut paste with rice, which was very nice. On Saturday, we went to the seaside, and it only rained a bit.
This morning, one of my friends was selling swords at an antique arms fair, so I went too, to give him a bit of support, and bought two yataghans for much, much less than I've seen them go for online. Shame that every other table was piled high with Nazi memorabilia...

I would count wood as vegetable matter for DnD purposes. Might not be what they intended, but I don't want to sit through another wood argument. It's enough to make you want to take a plank to someone.Thanks everyone. I'm just hanging around and chilling out for now.

Don't know. Maybe they were just board of trying to fit spells into schools and thought they could place it there? But fungi also count as plants, so I'm a bit stumped as to how much the real world applies. In any case, it's probably better to leaf the topic alone rather than try to branch out the plant category.

NH, I will respectfully disagree with you on Peter Jackson. I honestly think he made a great movie by not following the book entirely. The LOTR books were so lengthy that I fell asleep before I even got a quarter way through. All that singing was booooorring. Yes, Im an impatient fk.
On the other hand, the movie was awesome and full of win! Following the script would have been super long, super boring movie.
I am sorry about how you felt about Aragon was altered, but I'll just say you can't make an omlette without breaking any eggs.

I was originally miffed that Jackson injected doubt into the Gandalf character and that he'd bypassed Tom Bombadil completely. But I get why he did it, and I can appreciate it now.
My only lasting objection to Jackson's take on LotR is the 17 endings. Like seriously Pete, the ship sailing into the West is perfect, just leave it at that.

Freehold - I don't see anything wrong with goats as pets. Heck, people even keep pigs as pets.
At least you know you always have a supply of bacon...
My issue with pets is more if they are the dangerous kind

Random paladin derail:
I've played a paladin before. In a game where I was both player and GM.
Now don't look at me like that, I know it sounds weird to run a game for yourself.
This are the reasons why I did it:
1)I find I learn monster stat blocks and abilities better when I have a "live target" to practice on.
2)I am usually given very short notice to run a scenario. This is because for cons the VC is trying to arrange for the latest scenarios and they aren't out until like a week before a con.
So in the name of speeding up prep time, since I need to be prepared for any conditional thing the scenario throws and also as a guage of difficulty, I call in Night. He's a gestalt synthesist paladin that I created to play test.
Since the GM and the player are one and the same, sure there's bias on my part, but the paladin code starts getting interpreted in interesting ways.

Yeah I was allowed to cast invisibility and sneak past some robots after a straight up fight didn't end well. The moonflower still ate me up, though. Asked for permission to invis past them as well, but The Gee M said I can't let you sneak past every fight, this is supposed to be a playtest!
Moral of story: Don't leave the house without your lube (aka wand of grease). Yes, there was a black tentacle incident as well, earlier.
My Gee M still doesn't allow infernal healing spells to be used by paladins. Says something about evil spell descriptors and dealing with the devil. Yells at me to use that wand of CLW instead. On the other hand, not RAW, she allows me to use CLW on my suit instead of lesser restore eidolon since it's 1500 gp for 2 Wands,and PFS scenarios have limited budget.

Edit:Reminds me of the good old days in Vanguard where I'd go around selling bags. Since crafting was a grind, they had a craft channel just to spam to reduce boredom while crafting. That channel reminds me of FATWL. We'd do silly things like throw virtual tomatoes at each other just to get a food fight. On the other hand the channel was full of helpful people who would be willing to give their unused gears to other crafters and give crafting tips as well.

As someone who couldn't stand the books, I was pretty satisfied with the results.

Anyway, there was this guy who wore that shirt to the con and I was like bouncing all around him gushing, "Oh Me Gosh your shirt is so cool, where did you get it!"
Then he said he got it at Gen Con. It was quite apt because he was GMing that day, so literally if anything happens to him, the quest can't continue.

Finally finished Dragon Age Origins today, after 1+ year of sporadic playing. It's a rad game, but Mrs. Sunrise had to do the final boss fight after I got fed up with the tactical AI. Look Bioware, I'm playing this game to slaughter demons and to see where you take this story, not to fiddle around for an hour just trying to get all four of my party members to actually participate in the final battle.

In other news, Chronicles of Shannara (the tv experience) is lame. I mean, I'm probably still going to watch it when the kids are around and I can't watch the dark stuff I'm currently into. But I'm going to be regretting it the whole way.

Actually the chronicles of Shannara - I don't think the book series wasn't dark. There's a running theme of be careful of what you ask for (witch wriath), of perfectly normal people being warped due to horrible circumstances - iisle witch, and the running theme of sacrifice - straken.
And the word and the void series is worse in the sense that basically its a post apocalyptic, crap sack world where things just get worse as it goes along.
I do enjoy a little gritty, so I'm fine. Not too dark though.

I tend to play characters who are more enthused about getting into whatever's going on.
Scint tends to play characters who are getting unexpectedly pulled into events or reluctantly going along with the plot because they have to more than a want or desire.
It's a pretty notable contrast since we tend to play together (when one or both of us isn't DMing, that is).

Me it'll depend on character. If the character is good aligned she'll act like a puppy and all eager to get along with whatever needs doing. If that character is neutrally aligned then well its all the mercenary angle.
Also my casters are female and my martial classes are male. Don't ask me why I function that way, I just do. These days I prefer to play female characters then male characters because I'm not a guy so I'm not sure if I'm RPing them right.

I'm afraid I'm not a big "watcher".
I'd settle for, "Re-shoot Aragorn to restore him to his original badassery, get rid of all the weepy music, especially get rid of the dwarf crowd-diving at Helm's Deep, and in general if a scene wasn't in the book, take it out of the movie. You're not a good enough writer to be adding stuff.
