Half the sky is sunny, but it's misting over us, coupled with the sun shining on the new leaves on the trees and you get this awesome golden green light to everything.

I work tonight.
They sent out a mailer today with huge sales on bikes, trampolines, "hoverboards", and other summer implements of injury.
The sale doesn't start for another three days, which the mailer says. In the fine print.
But of course, no one's willing to pay full price.
The only problem is. Captain Yesterday doesn't haggle.
I hate it when they do that.

It's always strange to live in the surreal world of the Bay Area.
I listen to the radio, and am inundated with constant ads of, "If you've tried to get a mortgage recently, you know how hard it is, no matter what your credit score."
So, as I've mentioned, after buying a house in the Bay Area and rebuilding the entire studio, we have around half a million in debt. I decided to try to consolidate it into a single fixed-rate mortgage, and I was ready for it to be a nightmare of bureaucracy.
Instead, it was typical "money in the Bay Area doesn't mean the same thing as money anywhere else."
The whole impression I'm getting is, "Oh, you have a 1000-square-foot house in Albany? That's worth at least $1.2 million! And you make over $100k a year? OK, here! Let us throw money at you until you tell us to stop!"
Surreal first-world problems. The issue isn't getting the loan, it's telling the loan broker, "No, really. That's all we need. I don't want to borrow more than I need, thanks!"
Just weird how we've become a nation of debt.
If you enjoy extremely dry, quirky humor, you might giggle as much as I at these.There's a digital TV station that plays these. RetroTV, I think.

I... find it increasingly difficult to like the people in The Office. Yet... I can't stop watching.

Sadly, the last couple of seasons aren't very good.

This is what I've heard. Weirdly, I keep finding individual episodes to really like, even if I am not fond of the over-all direction.
And then, even more bizarrely, are the episodes I love and loath at the same time. Pretty much any episode featuring Stanley, for instance, because that character is so uncomfortable and frustrating* (his almost painful recalcitrance to be pleasant plus his myriad of health issues contrasting with/building off of Michael's terrible, terrible unconscious racism), yet they get some genuinely good drama out of those instances (such as the growth in his and Michael's relationship or maturity).
Or Angela - a living stereotype of everything "wrong" with cultural Christianity, and none of the positives - it's like watching a living, "These are all the things that frustrate you about your own people." on a show, with absolutely nothing else. As a Christian, having the only practicing one be an absolutely horrid individual who lies, cheats, and deceives, only to turn right around and be judgmental and petty over things that really don't matter... frustrating.
Or Phyllis: I genuinely enjoyed her character, and was happy she got a (more or less) happy life. Only, as the show progresses, she's been slowly becoming ever-more-petty and spiteful.
Dwight started out as a misguided socially inept lawful good. Now he wildly oscillates between socially inept lawful good neutral, and a cunningly aggressive (still inept) lawful evil. There is no middle ground, and it's unpleasant, because I don't like him anymore.
Toby** is just as uncomfortable, because he's tormented and hated for no discernible reason. He's one of the few genuinely good guys, and he's just... treated terribly. Of course, no one hates him as much as Michael, but it's also frustrating to see his personal attempts at doing good things thwarted, and I don't particularly find enjoyment or amusement in the fact that he finally got to go on a long vacation and had to spend it in traction.
Andy is okay (a stark contrast to how he entered the show), and Pam isn't terrible in every way. Even Jim, though, needlessly torments Dwight - something that didn't used to be justified.
And, of course, the "real" problem is Michael. He's an unpleasant person, and runs the office poorly, in many respects. He is the source of the majority of the uncomfortable elements... yet, he's also treated like the protagonist.
This is deeply contrasted by, say, Parks and Rec, which I wholeheartedly love, because, even when you disagree with the characters, or find them ludicrous, or whatever, you always like the characters, as they're actually good people, regardless of whether or not they are correct.
... and yet, those first two-to-three seasons, plus the occasional moments of true hilarious genius, are keeping me watching. WELP: I'm in this for the long haul, I suppose...

Huh, neat. I could potentially use my visual novel project as the basis for my thesis, or so the teacher said. We'll have to see if I try that or something else in a year or two.

The main public library has been open all of 8 minutes, and I've already witnessed a guy get ejected by armed private security for threatening to beat the s%&! out of a disabled guy for looking at him (not to mention unleashing a flurry of anti-Asian slurs), a woman get ejected, likewise by armed security, for threatening to stab a guy who walked too close to her, a guy get ejected for showering in the bathroom, and a drug deal going on in the bathroom.

The hell kind of library is that?!
San Francisco's main library is located in one of the highest crime parts of the entire city. Whatever's going on in the streets boils over into the building, especially when it's cold and wet out like today.

I enjoyed the first season of Preacher. Looking forward to June 19.
It *is* a bit "out there", but I'm not one too put off by criticisms of faith -- even my own.

While I am certainly not "liberal" in any way, shape, or form, I am "compassionate" in the sense that I pay attention to how other people are treated vs. how I am treated.
And this whole loan application process just stinks of favoritism.
The disclaimer at the bottom of every e-mail says, "Due to historically low interest rates, it may take us up to a week to respond to your queries."
And here I am, getting e-mail responses from my TWO loan reps within 5 minutes of my sending anything in.
Methinks I'm a whale, and I've been spotted by a couple of would-be Ahabs...
EDIT: Reminds me of my experience with Verizon. I kept telling people how awesome their customer service was. Until a friend was looking at the number *I* dial vs. the number *he* dials.
Turns out that with a Global Megacorporation account, I had my own "special" number to dial, with "special" representatives who worked on my behalf.
I stopped shilling for Verizon that day...

A couple of months ago my wife and I were at Home Depot for a few odds and ends, including a copy of my car key for her. One of those electronic keys capable of actually starting my car, rather than just opening the doors; not an extravagent item, but not something that you can pay for with pocket change either.
At the checkout line, I had an episode of dumbery, where the cashier had to ring us up twice because I didn't hand him everything in our cart. And then I forgot to hand him the key until he had finished ringing us up the second time. So real, embarrassing dumbery. And the cashier's response, with nobody on line behind us, was "Take the key, just go."
I couldn't help but think of the stories I've heard of black and brown and red people being watched and scrutinized while shopping.
