My neighbor's dog, a mutt they picked up in the Bahamas is named Freeport. Everytime I walk by and pet him I find myself saying "Hey Freehold, how you doing buddy" while scratching his ears or rubbing his tummy.
Get a cat.
Name it Joss Whedon.
Put them in a small clear box.
Sit back and enjoy.
Collect profits.

Whedon absolutely did not have a hand in creating the Cortex+ System.

I also squatted today, because apparently I hate my body. Mainly because I haven't measured my squat-until-failure maximum reps for this week and the new week starts tomorrow. I'm making a spreadsheet so I can graph my progress in weight loss and workout gains.
Visually, this seems to be the fastest I've ever lost weight. Tomorrow is the next weighing, measuring, calipering, etc. (I don't believe in weight alone because muscle weighs more than fat, and I'm also doing strength training with my cardio and eating less.)
Not sure how good exactly, but I can say this: My pants fit again, and I no longer have budding man-boobs, but proper pectorals. I'm about 50% closer to feeling comfortable at a pool, so hopefully by summer I'll drop another 15 and can run the mile to the public pool for laps and a return run.
Dear God help me, I think I'm starting to enjoy working out. Teenage me would hate adult me for saying that.
...but teenage me was an angsty goth bastard who needed to get laid and stop spending all his time thinking about how everyone else was an idiot, so the feeling would be mutual.
Stupid bastard. All that black in Florida summer was hot...

I do miss biking. Still haven't gotten mine fixed, but then I think I get more of a workout in less time jogging, so I feel like I'm compressing my workouts. I really don't feel like riding around for two hours when I could eventually be *running for half an hour for the same benefit. I do want to get it fixed by the time my friends finish Reign of Winter (they're on book 4). I get to rejoin the group when they hit the next AP, and they live four miles away; too short to waste driving, too long to walk without breaking a sweat and being the stinky gamer, but a four mile bike is just enough to get the heart really going.
(*Still not up to the point where I can full run for more than like a minute. Working asthma away is a slow, arduous process, but I'm making progress.)

Neveryoumind that its used almost exclusively for the Firefly RPG...
AHEM~!
How dare you, sir?!
I'll have you know it is not "almost exclusively" for the Firefly RPG! There are, in fact, a large array of film and television properties that have been adapted to the Cortex+ System!
Though the cool version is, in fact, used for Firefly RPG.
BUT!
a) it is not "cool" because it's used for said RPG; I, myself, have adapted that for: 1) my D&D-alike, and 2) the drow game; and it functions perfectly for pretty much any sci-fi setting with pretty much zero adjustment other than flavor text (and even then, it's minimal)
b) it's both simple and elegant as a system
Literally, I know exactly what would change between how it's printed now, in-the-book, and how it'd be played:
- the word "blasters" and "lightsabers" would be used
- "the Force" (or perhaps specific tricks with the Force) would become bonus assets or skill-specialties
- the distinctions would change... a little (mostly just adding stuff: including a Force-Sensitive Distinction, a Jedi distinction, and so on; but removing the "reader"-like distinctions)
And that's it.
It'd make an incredibly balanced, simple and elegant Star Wars RPG.

I'm slowly getting into shape. I have been out of shape since martial arts died, cycling helped only so much. I have decided to step things up this last week by doing martial arts exercises and Tai Chi every day starting tomorrow. It'll help add some needed definition and even stamina before the soiree.
My body has always been strange. Muscular definition has either been incredibly difficult or easy with no rhyme or reason between, although building muscle itself has never been difficult. I am confident that if I update my routine I'll be beach ready in about a month.

(Also, I explicitly did not use Firefly RPG mechanics, but Cortex+ mechanics, so you're not doing anything, here, except lamenting the lack of something that actually exists.)

Sitting out on the balcony enjoying the lovely weather and the squirrels and birds are moving around the place like I'm not even here, or worse like I'm a Disney princess. ;P
We've started referring to the squirrels as our outside pets because that's what they act like. I really have to work at it to keep them from coming inside when I open the door. They want to play with the cats' toys soooooo bad. :)

So long as the squirrels leave my onions alone, them and I (grammar?) can be friends. They scamper about outside, peer through the French windows at the back of the house and pinch anything I've left out for the birds, but they're welcome to it, since the only birds we get are colossal wood pigeons, crows and (once) a jay. Also, unlike cats, they don't crap in my plant pots.
