As an aside, the wife has seasoned two of our three cast iron skillets we found under the sink the other day.

Yay cast iron cookware!

I was under the weather today. I blame it on walking through the strange weather we had yesterday in nothing more than heavy-duty sweats. It was raining but it was also incredibly foggy- I was walking through soup at some points.

Feeling better now though...

I mean, I like them, but some of their verses are just silly.

Yesterday marks the second time in the last six months that I've had to help the fine folks at National Grid do their job during a power outage. Last time, one of the cutout fuses blew, and this time, the wind blew a branch onto the primaries. Both times, the guys didn't bother getting out of their truck, instead just driving in circles looking awkwardly out of the windshield (also, the second time, it was dark, and they didn't have flashlights), and I had to show them the issue myself. Fifty bucks an hour just to sit in your truck has got to be a sweet gig.

They kinda went south after Hillel died, to be honest. Or when Rick Rubin got involved. One of the two, anyway. Probably both.

Over the last two weeks, John "Brad" Bradbury (The Specials), Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister (Motorhead), and David Bowie have all died. Ominous. Portentous, even. Think this will be the year we finally lose Keith Richards?

All I use my steamer for is rice and veggies. It is awesome at making those. Oh and a tip from Aranna; Use good quality spring water for steaming it really does lend its flavor to the food. And by the same token avoid using city tap water at all costs... ewwww.

This depends on where you live. I've lived places where we bought water because the city water was disgusting, but I've also lived places where the city water is really, really good. Which is as much as I can really say without delving into politics. Water is kind of a big deal in politics around these parts right now. What with our state government poisoning a whole city and all....

Dean: Yes, Twinkles, it is a funny word! Do you know what it means?

Twinkles: {sadly} No-o-o-o!

Peggy: It means, 'You're going to get run over by a brightly coloured Japanese velocipede!'

Twinkles: Really? Hey, I know a song about that!

It's Tuesday, which apparently means that certain people feel they ought to come into work wearing a miniskirt and ripped fishnets combo, despite the fact that it is not 1985 and they are not extras in a Motley Crue video.

Not that I'm complaining, necessarily, but still...

Pretty much what I did. As soon as I hit 48, I just figured, "Ah, well, close enough!"

So I've been 50 for quite a while now, and will continue to be for the next year or two...

Well, *that* was anticlimactic!

NobodysWife: NH, I've noticed your old wolf sweatshirt on the floor. Is it too small for you?
NH: No, it fits me now. Why?
W: Oh, I was thinking that Impus Major might like it. I thought it was a Medium.
NH: It is.
W: Is it a large Medium?
NH: No; I've just lost 30 pounds in the last 3 months.
W: Oh. Good for you. So do you want to keep it?
NH: No; you can give it to Impus Major.

So yep, not even an exclamation mark. Just a side, "Good for you."

Ah, well, I'm doing it for my own personal health rather than accolades.

It's just that accolades never hurt. :-P

(On the other hand, I'm really beginning to notice the difference in weight. I'm lighter on my feet, move with more confidence, and suddenly push-ups are embarrassingly easy. Kind of like taking 30 pounds off your bench press and wondering why you can suddenly double your reps...)

I've taken to responding to any request for action with a gurgling, zombielike moan and shambling off to get things done.

Brains and the taste thereof have captured my attention lately.

I should report this to HR to see if anything can be done. I might be a zombie.

Yeah, you've gotta do it for yourself first and foremost.

OTOH, I just got back from the doctor, who was delighted with how much I've lost in 6 weeks AND in the 15 point drop in both blood pressure numbers. It's nice to have a health professional enthusiastic like that.
