*sigh* I know that saying "he seemed to be so nice man" might be a very cliche, but it is true.
Local director of YMCA is charged with possession of child pornography...
Have I mentioned that the former rpg club I belonged to for the last few years of its existence was meeting in the YMCA and cooperated with them and that director was quite helpful including organization of one convention in YMCA building?
Ugh, I hate stories like this,I have zero tolerance for scum like that

As far as I know that's early, I wasn't in Geo till I was a sophmore
Yeah my wife said she didnt start that until high school to, but her school was in a pretty small town:)
my daughter loves getting math homework because she does it in half an hour and gets everything right then goes a-climbin' the trees:)

My daughter has started on Geometry, she's in 5th grade, shes doing great at it and all, is that early or right on time or late to be learning it?
i was home schooled literally my whole life so I have no idea at all:)
it sounds on time to me. Some of the thread math teachers will be by eventually to verify.

I didn't learn geometry until high school, but the kidlet started having basic geometry in third grade and quite a lot of it last year in fifth. It's normal for the curriculum here. I think it's helpful to give kids an idea of how the basic parts of math work.
Now if they could just not do all the wonky stuff with the real basics. I ended up having to teach my kid basic algebra concepts in order to clear up all the confusion they created around the ideas of addition and subtraction. Don't even get me started on the number of times I had to help him unlearn their weirdness surrounding basic multiplication and division.

I too am assuming she is learning the basics. I too feel the world would be much better off without wonkiness injected into math basics. Without math entirely would be wonderful, but the world is not ready for such glory yet.

So... new faction tokens are in. Looks like the Shadow and Lantern Lodge images are gone for good except for those of us who had them before.
I never had much love or care for PFS but I always liked the Shadow Lodge's emblem, and have it on a few of my aliases (as well as my main profile obviously), I suppose now I'll be keeping it for the sake of making sure I have it, as once it changes I'll never get it back. On the other hand, I think this also means if I ever change avatars, it'll vanish. =/

It depends on what is meant by geometry. Geometry as the study of shapes, areas, perimeters, and angles in the fifth grade is good.
What most "old timers" like me remember as high school geometry is more appropriately called Euclidean geometry--proofs along with the study of the other stuff. Fifth grade is really too young to make the critical thinking leaps that these require. In fact, most teens don't have the brain capability to do them until between 15-16. (My dad, who taught high school geometry for 10 years or so said you could see in the students' works when they suddenly were able to make those critical thinking leaps.)
As a side note, most common core programs (at least in AZ) have done away with such proofs. Geometry ended up melded into the algebra classes instead. (As though there wasn't enough to cover already!)

Incoming rant about common core & "new math" approaches
I hate that children (and parents) are learning to hate something due to improper curriculum.

Great news - the three week assessment I was doing for a company has been shortened to two weeks and has now led to a 5 month implementation project beginning Monday.
Maybe I WILL be able to make a living with this independent consulting gig, after all.
The only bad thing is that now I need to finish my report for project 1 tonight so that I can call that project closed.

And with that, happy Friday FaWtL. :) Hope everyone is well, and has lovely plans for the weekend ahead. A chilly 47F/8C here today, though it feels much colder. Wet and windy gives us the horizontal rain that makes umbrellas pointless. I got drenched a few times yesterday. Ah well, the rain's lucky I like it, or we'd have issues. :P

Let's see, when last I left off, we had started our counter invasion of the Atlanteans, who were attempting to invade our world, seeking refuge from the end of all things. Long story short, we killed the God of Ignorance, returning him to his original form, the God of Knowledge. He shared the secrets of the True Mages of Atlantis with our True Mage, causing all of their magics to cease working. Of course, this then caused the floating islands that made up the city of Atlantis to start descending towards Earth, as the anti-gravity magic stopped working. Quickly using Mjölnir to teleport to the Convocation's tower (the name the group of Mages had taken on), our Mage swiftly killed all the old Mages, making their magic function again, only with him in control of it. He is now significantly more powerful, though the initial adapting period caused a junk of the city to fall away and crash into Earth's ocean's, just off the coast of Mexico (randomly generated GPS coordinates for where it fell, the RNG was kind). Cue massive tidal wave, magic items washing up on the shores, the US Navy claiming the "meteorite" and trying to cordon it off, unsuccessfully.
Now we've decided to cloak the floating city, and land it on Earth somewhere, probably in the middle of the Atlantic ocean, and submerge it for a while. They have artifacts that will protect life in the city, and we need to set something up before we go "Look world, Magic is real!". The mobsters and the Shepherds who came and helped us were dropped off in their respective home-bases, though contact was lost with the Shepherds shortly after leaving them off. That's high on my priority list, as a fellow Shepherd, though we're also trying to figure out what to do with the city, the magic artifacts, the approaching end of all things, and the Earth based organizations that would most likely like to deal with us, to our detriment. Not to mention, our True Mage, already the most powerful being we knew, with his one secret, now has around 50 secrets, and is trying to adapt to this. That's all we got so far, hopefully it won't be another month til next session.

On some recommendations from FaWtL'ers, I've checked out some things in the last while, so thought I'd give some feedback.
Bubblegum Crisis - Meh. Interesting setting, but that's about all I can give it.
Outlaw Star - Very enjoyable sci-fi anime action.
Gundam - Actually finding it hard to lay my hands on the original. Maybe looking in the wrong places.
Also checked out Lucifer and Akame ga Kill! recently, both of which were very enjoyable, and I would highly recommend.

Yep, great plans for the weekend. Tonight is board games, then tomorrow is a pub-crawl through York, Sunday gaming as usual. So all in all should be fun.
And last night we got a new guy at the club, we even retained the other new(ish) guy.
Sounds like good craic alright. Hope it all goes well. :)

I've considered it. A lot. I'm not sure. I fear I'd embarrass myself terribly. :P Maybe one day.
