Nah. It'd be eaten by Wes.

Which Song of Ice and Fire characters are you most looking forward to being introduced in Game of Thrones? Which cuts or potential character cuts will you be most disappointed by?

Hi James!

Glad you avoided Con crud!

I'm a bit confused. I was pursuing the Technology Guide, as well as The Fires of Creation. The Technology Guide says that without the Technologist feat, Disable Device is treated as untrained as to tech devices. However, Fires of Creation says that you can attempt to pick electronic locks with a minus 5 penalty without the Technologist feat. Which would you use?

Thanks!

How large of a "permanent" structure (keep, castle) be created with a Polymorph Any Object spell ?

What size building would be a reasonable request using a Wish/Miracle ?

Up to 100 cubic feet per level; if the thing is hollow (as most structures tend to be) the space inside counts against this limit.

Look to other spells that make buildings, such as mage's magnificent mansion, and then extrapolate from there, I suppose. A wish or miracle should be able to create something bigger than that. That spell creates a mansion of up to 3 ten-foot cubes per level. I'd say 5 ten foot cubes per level is a good place for wish/miracle to reside.

how big of a castle can a full-power miracle create?

Up to the GM. Using my above suggestions, 5 10 foot cubes would allow for a 20th Caster Level wish/miracle to create something that consists of 200 10 foot cubes. That said... it's up to the GM if you want to create something bigger. Since create demiplane exists... and since miracle is more powerful... depending on the situation, you'd be able to make a really big castle.

No exact formula should exist though. It should vary according to the situation. AKA: Up to the GM.

What would you say a (mythic)miracle would be able to do? (when creating a castle)

Pretty much the same thing as a mythic wish.

James, I wanted to thank pazio for the ACG it isw a great book with lots of potential I really like the Slayer, Bloodrager, Swashbuckler and the Hunter.

Now on to my question. Can you explain why when Pazio puts feat taxes in martial feats that have nothing to do with the feat it self. Example the great new feat Pack Flanking has the feat Combat expertise which has a prereq of int of 13. This makes it real hard to take the feat in a lot of builds if you are limited to a 20 point build. I don't see them same feat taxes for casting classes. Maybe that is because I have not delved too deeply in to caster classes other than Magus's and Bloodragers.

Question 2: Would you ask Jason to consider letting the weapons training ability that fighters and some others get substitute for Weapons Focus as a prerequisite for feats that require Weapons focus as a prerequisite.

Also I would like to tell you that you did a great job on the Technology guide. there was only one item that I did not like and that was powered armor. Most of what I did not like was having to refer to other sections of the book to look up abilities.

IMO all magic item descriptions

should be able to fit on a 3x5 or 4x6 index card but that is just my own individual quirk because that is what my GM in my formative gaming years did.

Pazio is really rocking with great content for Pathfinder!!

Thanks for picking up the new book!

You'd have to ask Jason and the design team why they do that. My guess would be that that's one of the ways they balance the feats that are more powerful.

Question 2: That's unlikely to be changed.

As for powered armor... it's complicated stuff. You shouldn't be using it until you're high level, and by that point, in theory, you'll be a lot more familiar with the other tech options in the book, at which point it should be easier to manage.

Giant kin are tribal generally loosely allied with giant tribes often a meritocracy led by a half giant. Giant kin are minimum 3 quarters Human (except for the Braunn who look like they come from dwarves) and a quarter giant blood.

The problem came from the fact a friend reviewed these NPCs creations and wants to play one during the Giantslayer AP. And I am unsure if that would be appropriate where it has been stated the giants are the enemy. Is there a way you can think where I can get solve this situation without saying outright NO?

There's been plenty of adventures where humans are the primary enemy, and it's still okay to play humans. By that reasoning, not all giants or giantkin would need to be allied with all monster giants. Just make the giantkin PC a good alignment and that should solve the problem right there.

I'm glad too! Avoiding the con crud means that I don't have to work ALL DAY on the weekends and actually have a chance of not falling behind schedule as a result.

There were some changes in development to the Technolgist feat at the last minute that didn't get entirely synced up with Fires of Creation, alas. If you're comfortable with technology in your game, I'd suggest going with the –5 penalty. If technology in your game (and the idea that anyone can figure it out with a bit of luck) does weird you out, go with the rules as presented in the book.

OR! Limit the actual use of Disable Device to unlock electronically locked doors to attempts to unlock the door's wiring etc. but let the check still work at a –5 penalty if the character instead tries to disable the locked door by physically dismantling it.

We haven't actually done much with positive energy effects in Pathifnder yet. In D&D, you could "overheal" by being on the plane for too long, at which point you basically explode from an overdose of life, which ironically basically kills you.

I did work on Elder Evils—I did the chapter on the obyrith lord Sletorous or however it was spelled.

Yeah, harmful to living creatures. Do you think it's even appropriate to use positive energy in this way, or should it remain a force for healing?

I really liked the way that scenario from Elder Evils portrayed it as a force for growth - including harmful growth of cancers and the like.

Hey James,

I have a question. It seems lately that the APs are about ending rather permanently threats around Golarion.

For example...

:
Reign of Winter could end up with removing Baba Yaga from Golarion and putting a good queen on the Irrisen Throne.

Wrath of Righteous close the World Wound.

Iron God it seems pretty much ends or at least topples the Technic League from their power base.

The up coming Hell's Rebels seem the Cheliax will not be a evil power anymore.

While I don't have a problem with any of these APs I am kind of getting tired of Golarion changing APs...are their plans to step back from them?

Maybe not on Golarion, but that's how it works in Pathfinder. If you visit the Positive Energy Plane, you will 'over heal' and die.

Gamemastery Guide - Planar Traits wrote:

Positive-Dominant

An abundance of life characterizes planes with this trait. Like negative-dominant planes, positive-dominant planes can be either minor or major. A minor positive-dominant plane is a riotous explosion of life in all its forms. Colors are brighter, fires are hotter, noises are louder, and sensations are more intense as a result of the positive energy swirling through the plane. All individuals in a positive-dominant plane gain fast healing 2 as an extraordinary ability.

Major positive-dominant planes go even further. A creature on a major positive-dominant plane must make a DC 15 Fortitude save to avoid being blinded for 10 rounds by the brilliance of the surroundings. Simply being on the plane grants fast healing 5 as an extraordinary ability. In addition, those at full hit points gain 5 additional temporary hit points per round. These temporary hit points fade 1d20 rounds after the creature leaves the major positive-dominant plane. However, a creature must make a DC 20 Fortitude save each round that its temporary hit points exceed its normal hit point total. Failing the saving throw results in the creature exploding in a riot of energy, which kills it.

Funny thing is, because it grants fast healing, even Undead can be healed on the Positive Energy Plane. While on the Negative Energy Plane, only living creatures can die. So Negative Energy kills living creatures, while Positive Energy kills everything.

Does Golarion's Positive/Negative Planes operate the same way? Or are they different?

And adventurers by definition are different from the norm. Also do you think I should produce more giantkin varieties? I didn't want to do it with the huge + giant varieties as their as they are too powerful. Is there any Golarion specific giants that could be good candidates to have giantkin offspring? And remember, there's a HUGE DIFFERENCE between one person creating a world that he has complete and utter control over and a company creating a world that countless people will have a hand in creating. It's a lot easier to manage continuity if you're a one-person team, and a lot easier to make decisions that deviate from real-world familiarities as a result.

And frankly... I don't think Tolkien should have worried about those tomatoes anyway, since if you have dragons in your world, a few tomatoes aren't gonna break verisimilitude any more, and excluding them might actually do so even more.

I split the Giantkin into 4 distinct types Tethyn (Ice giant kin), Gorn (Hill giant Kin), Braunn (Fire Giant Kin), Kolan (Stone Giant Kin).

I suppose that makes sense. I always thought them more a as "monster" . But these creatures look mostly human anyway just unusually tall with a few distinguishing features. And adventurers by definition are different from the norm. Also do you think I should produce more giantkin varieties? I didn't want to do it with the huge + giant varieties as their as they are too powerful. Is there any Golarion specific giants that could be good candidates to have giantkin offspring? Or any Giants appropriate to that region that could be giantkin material?

Well... if you're the GM, you get to make those decisions. I wouldn't allow Large PCs or part-giant PCs in any game I run, for what it's worth. I overwhelmingly prefer human or near-human characters in my games. The closest thing we have to half-giants on Golarion would be the ogerkin... and they are most assuredly not appropriate as PCs.

I have a quick lore-based question: How prevalent would you say homelessness, hunger, and starvation are on Golarion? How about just in Absalom in particular?

Depends on the region, as in the real world, but they are very much a part of life. Probably moreso than in the real world overall, since Golarion is a more dangerous place than the real world.

Hi, James-

Would you consider Hell's Rebels sort of a spiritual "sequel" to Skull and Shackles, given that ** spoiler omitted **

Nope.

I’ll put my own thoughts into a spoiler,

If it were entirely up to me? Second Darkness.
without getting into too many specifics, what are some of the changes and alterations you would do off the top of your head?

The two big ones:

Spoiler:

1) I would remove the missing level between parts 2 and 3, and build a short adventure that would gracefully transition the PCs out of Riddleport and into the roles of world-traveling heroes.

2) I would more or less entirely re-write the first half of part 5 to make the elves more likable and make it less of a railroad.

O Giant Kin are still medium humanoids. They just range between 6'5" to 7'5". They're freakishly tall but not that tall.

What do you think of the san diego comic con transformers? Look them up, they are the most 80s thing I have seen.

No real opinion. I know folks like transformers, but I've never been into them.

3) How rare are Druids that worship Pharasma, if any do exist?

4) What are the most common Druid deities aside from Gozreh and Erastil?

1) Absolutely.

2) Yes.

3) Not that rare.

4) The Eldest, the Elemental Lords, and perhaps Nethys. All of these are more common than druids of Erastil, actually, since Erastil is about how civilization changes and tames and adopts nature, which is in a lot of ways not very druidic at all.

I see Erastil as more served by Hunters than Druids, and I see them more at odds with each other, than having that much in common. Is that a mistaken impression? I see Druids as likely to have reasons to destroy a settlement because they feel it upsets a balance, and I can imagine Erastilian Hunters nocking their bows to oppose them if needed.

Not sure if this has been answered or not before:
Magus Arcana: Wand Wielder
Could you activate the wand and channel the charge through your weapon?
The arcana says that with spell combat you can replace casting a spell with activating a wand and spellstrike allows you to channel a touch spell through your weapon.

For the first time ever today I have heard the word Vanican magic and Vanican spellcasting and have no idea what it means. So, what does that word Vanican mean?

What is your opinion on D&D 5th edition? I am not asking for a professional opinion, just as a gamer and NOT in comparison to pathfinder. Just as a separate game on its own merits. If you already answered this, sorry but your thread is massive and I may have missed it.

Can you think of any way to get a munchkin player in a roleplay group to stop being a munchkin without asking them to leave? We all like this guy but he keeps pushing around the players about how we build characters wrong and our personal flavour doesn't matter. We have told him to stop that but he wont listen; but outside the game he is a great guy and we do want him to play.

I am making a Thief character in pathfinder and I was wondering if there is a god of thieves or if it is ok in Golarian for someone to not attach themselves to any of the gods at all. I mean, not like they don't believe they exist since there is absolute proof that they do in that world but not exactly devoted to anyone really.

I am bad at writing adventures so aside from Horror on the Orient Express, what Call of Cthulhu RPG adventures would you recommend? Like I said, I am bad at writing them up but I am really good at adapting adventures and changing them heavily to something totally different; but I tend to need a starting point.

Did I use the semicolon correctly in this post? I am trying to use it correctly because I actually was never taught the use of it back in school. My teacher at the time was big into comma usage.

Oh and what is your opinion on the Oxford comma? Is it actually considered incorrect at all?

Hunters are definitely a great class for Erastil's faith.

And not all druids are about destroying settlements.
