The Talking Donkey |
Feel free to start up friendly banter, ask questions, etc. here. All traffic should be here as opposed to the IC or Recruiting thread.
As a note, when posting in the IC thread. Please make sure it is nice and neat and easy to read.
A good example would be:
Bruagh walked into his throne room, an aura of confidence exuding from him. The times might have been uncertain but the Dwarf King was not. Scanning the room, his eyes met the stare of every dwarf gathered before speaking.
"The road to this point has been long and hard. Friends and family have given their lives to get us to here. I make no promises that it will get easier. Nay, for I say we will surely have a difficult road before us... but we shall not let the sacrifices that our brethren so willing made be for naught." The King waited a few moments, giving his words time to set in before continuing. The tension in the room palpable as if it were a living, breathing thing. "We will take back these mountains!!!" As the cheers of his people surrounded him in a thunderous roar, the king thought to himself. "Or we will die trying."
Sound good?

I normally use Italics to describe actions or thoughts, Bold for IC speaking. I'll hide my combat rolls in a spoiler, and ooc for quick questions and such. If you post pics of maps/ monsters, can you use flickr? i cannot axcess google docs from work :-/
I don't see a problem with posting the map.
The Talking Donkey |
Well character concept was a HUGE reason for picking each of you... but posting habits were another I looked into. (Hope you all don't mind but I perused your recent posts tab.)
That being said, I'll post this map and if there is a problem, I'll simply take it down.
Link is in the spoiler. As I said, map comes from Paizo Publishing, Dwarves of Golarion.

Cool, I have the download also. As I said, I am a big fan of dwarves. Will there be any problem with that?
The Talking Donkey |
IC thead is up here. Please don't just dot it. Wait until you make an actual IC post.

Hi everyone!
Thanks for picking me, TD. Naturally I'm perfectly fine with you checking up on my posting habits. If it works as good advertisement for my rp and writing skills, all the better! I definitely prefer the style of PbP play that you're looking for so it's all to the better.
I don't have Dwarves of Golarion, though I may buy the pdf now that I'm in a game. It'll have to wait a little while though; this month has been rough on my finances.
By the way, my character sheet is complete except for a few last purchases. I'll be updating my equipment list to reflect that tonight, as well as a few other details that are affected by those purchases.

I don't, but I might be able to borrow a copy from somewhere. Anywho, nice to meet you all, I look forward to playing with you.
I'm only a few minutes walk away if you need a look at the hard copy. As for posting the images online-
It's frowned upon- perhaps create a google site and add us via permissions?
I'll get a post up from Rahkeg as soon as I can, looking forward to gaming with you all (although I have gamed with two of you before, me and stormchaser go back a a ways lol)
This is my default alias so I have to dot with it on the ic thread at some point.
Edit: I tend to use italics for descriptives, let me know if thats a problem as i'm happy to attempt to remember not to use them for this game.
The Talking Donkey |
Bah, post just got eat.
Short version.
Make a meaningful IC post in the IC thread with your primary alias. Denote it's your character by doing something like.
High King Bruagh
Rest of post here.
Honestly I'm just trying to eliminate all of the clutter.
You guys are off to a good start so far.
Edit: Nah, italics are fine. I'm not the posting police really. Just the real police lol.
Wander Weir |
Another trick for those of you who are worried about the dot, is to post using your primary alias and then edit it immediately after to change it to the new alias. That's worked for me pretty well, recently.
Just got my first post up. Took me longer than I intended due to trying to get the speech right and then got eaten. Good thing I type in a text file before posting.
Anyway, if Feldspar's miner's tongue gets too troublesome, let me know and I'll lighten it up. I might have gotten carried away, for all I know.

I wasn't entirely sold on taking a craft feat for this campaign, as it doesn't appear i'll have the time to craft anyway. I was therefore going to switch it to another feat. Thoughts?
Makes sense, maybe to Combat Casting. If you're ever in melee with an enemy, I worry for you. Maybe you should take Fly or something as your 3rd level spell to avoid that.

Well I tend to have haste or mirror image up as much as possible, with average rolls on an extended false life I have 60HP, and its unlikely i'll lose initiative. Besides, I have five of you hasted to ekep the melee off me (fingers crossed) and a fairly good AC if you don't :P.
Sadly the feat in question is my 5th level bonus feat, so it must be metamagic, item creation or spell mastery. I'm not a big fan of metamagics when I don't have level 4 spells yet, but perhaps i'll spend it on one I will be using later.
Spells are prepped for the first day anyway. Heres hoping I can ruin some Duergar's day with glitterdust.

I think you're right. We'll probably be digging through enough abandoned cities with plenty of loot to be found anyway.
Combat casting isn't a bad idea.
Er, ninja'd. I'm not a big fan of metamagic feats either at such an early stage but it might be a good idea nonetheless.

Quicken is on the list but is currently useless, Silent I also want at higher levels. I took Bouncing Spell from the APG in the end- as I couldn't get +2 int from my race my save DC's are a little low, so it should be quite useful. I have a bouncing blindness prepared now.

That sounds like it'll be a fun feat to have.
Thoradin Spangelhelm |
if you are worried about DC saves, maybe try Persistent Spell, "Creatures who saved against a spell must save again"
You can modify a spell to become more tenacious when
its targets resist its effect.
Benefit: Whenever a creature targeted by a persistent
spell or within its area succeeds on its saving throw
against the spell, it must make another saving throw
against the effect. If a creature fails this second saving
throw, it suffers the full effects of the spell, as if it had
failed its first saving throw. A persistent spell uses up a
spell slot two levels higher than the spell’s actual level.
Spells that do not require a saving throw to resist or
lessen the spell’s effect do not benefit from this feat.

As I have explained, it has to be a wizard bonus feat storm.
Persistent spell is nice, but anything that modifies a spell by more than one level is poor at this low level.

Feldspar watched the others go and then turned back to his map, grumbling under his breath. He needed no advice from Torag; the God had already spoken through the fire that raged in his blood. Orcs were the greatest threat, not Duergar and even brief travel by the Deep Roads would assure passage from the greater danger now that Highhelm had been retaken.
"I'll be here waiting for ta' others to ready themselves. P'raps they'll gather their courage as well as their prayers.
Shame I was gone by the time this was said. ;)
So much for brothers Thoradin, no real dwarf would just let a comment about a Cleric of Torag being a coward pass in the Five Kings mountains. :P

Actually, it was directed at the old dwarf. Feldspar was just annoyed that so many weren't actually ready to leave so he broaded the strokes more than was necessary. What can I say? He's impatience to get a start, after waiting nearly a century to see the upper world.
Elyk Spangelhelm |
Elyk was already giving his opinion IC before the question was even asked, every war party needs a formation. Anywho, just running with the character Wander Weir, no real offence taken. In fact it made for a good bit of crack if you take my meaning. God I'm starting to talk like a Dwarf...
Good call there though DM, we need everyone on side for this.

Totally understand, man. Now I'm just trying to figure out how to respond to Elyk's 'orders' without reopening fractures the DM just went to the trouble of healing.
That's the problem with a party full of dwarves. The pride is pretty darn deep!

The old dwarf is smart enough not to prepare his spells before he knows what the situation is. Do you take him for a Sorceror huh? ;)
Stormchaser |
Heh, well correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I'm the oldest other than the wizard, and yeah - Cleric. Not trying to push myself in charge of the party, like I said just playing the role. Someone has to commmand a warband, if somebody more qualified wants to I'll step aside. It's all RP.
Actually, I was wrong about the age thing. I took the highest naturally rollable age from the table, but it seems Feldspar and Rhen are both older, Rhen's pushing middle age!
Solarious |
hehe its all in character, just a bit of Stern Paladin RP, Never played a pally, let me know if i take it too far, BTW trying NOT to be lawful stupid, but a honorable, stern, no non-sense pally. that in dire need ( not the first chance i get) would give his life for the party, if needed.
Wander Weir |
Believe me, Feldspar's anger is completely in character. Player-wise, I'm taking no umbrage. But Feldspar's young, brash and arrogant. Furthermore, he doesn't like to take orders until he knows the person giving them has earned the position, especially when it comes to a cleric. A lifetime of having to bow and scrape for clerics who disrespected his god (Torag) hasn't made him overfond of them.
Furthermore, a warrior in the middle just isn't much use...unless he happens to have a reach weapon. Fortunately, I do. :)
Rhen StoneHeart |
*casts Haste*, just let me double your atacks per round and give +1 to hit my crossbow-inclined friend :P
That was in 3rd edition my friend, now it's just 1 extra attack! It's been awhile since you played a wiz, huh? LOL...
