Technical question: Celestial Servant feat

Rules Questions

This feat give an aasimar's animal companion, familiar, etc., the celestial template. The celestial template says that the creature gains SR equal to its new CR+5...but animal companions and mounts and such have no CR of their own. How is its SR determined? Is it based on the character's CR (i.e. level-1)? Do they gain no SR on a technicality?

It's the CR of the creature, not the creature's master.

You would calculate the CR from the bestiary and add the adjustments it would get for being an animal companion, i.e the increased hit dice, and features gained. I wonder how Herolab works it out.

Sovereign Court

This is a known problem. Since the companion is a class feature, it doesn't technically have an independent challenge rating; it's part of the challenge of facing its master.

For the template, I think most people just use the CR of the master for the creature as well.

I've seen that you use your level, or the animal HD.

I'm pretty sure I've seen somewhere (maybe a Dev comment or a FAQ) a rule about this but I have to search for it

Here James Jacobs says to use the owner's level as the CR for the Animal Companion
