Drinking rules?

Rules Questions

stupid question: are there any official rules for getting/being drunk in Pathfinder? and if so where are they?

i could always adhoc something, but would like an offical rule if possible.

Liberty's Edge

There certainly are. They are to be found in the GameMastery Guide just put out! Also are rules for addiction and withdrawal.

10$ is alot of money when you're unemployed, with 2 kids to feed.

Alcohol (Drunkenness)

Just like drugs, alcohol can be abused and have significant negative effects. In general, a character can consume a number of alcoholic beverages equal to 1 plus double his Constitution modifier before being sickened for 1 hour equal to the number of drinks above this maximum. Particularly exotic or strong forms of alcohol might be treated as normal drugs. Those who regularly abuse alcohol might eventually develop a moderate addiction.

also, 3.0 had rules in arms and equipment for it. fort dc 11 +1 per drink. effects: -1 dex and wis per failed save

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.

Sorry for the major thread necromancy, but i'm missing some information here:

1. How much is one beverage?
2. This number of beverages per what? day?
3. There are features, like the iron liver trait, which hint at some kind of fort-save on alcohol-effects, whats up with that? Just for playing with the old rules?

4. Since alcoholism is treated as a disease, if you are immune to diseases, you can't get addicted, right?

Most of this is not really covered in the rules from what I can tell and is up to the GM to make a decision. Most GMs kinda have house rules when it comes to stuff like this. For example most players automatically believe that Half-Orcs and Dwarves are strong drinkers. It's also safe to assume that if you take a feat like "Iron Liver" you could out-dink most people without even trying.

I think the cost of alcohol is in the Equipment Book that Pathfinder put out awhile back.

Didn't mean the cost. I meant the amount. For the drunken master monk mainly. It says one tankard, but tankard isn't really defined. I know tankards that range from 0.3 liter to 2 liter.

One beverage in the rules for poison isn't defined either. Also, ale should be different from liqor for example. All in all i guess i'll need to talk to my GM about it..

Don't overthink this. A tankard is just a tankard. Ale vs beer vs whiskey is just flavor. If the character wants to get drunk, they'll drink enough of whatever it is, so worrying of they would get drunk faster on ale or beer is not really plot important unless you have some very specific plot point about a character getting drunk when they didn't intend to, or not getting drunk when they intended to.

I'd have to think such situations are rare.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Rulebook, Starfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

If you can't afford the books, the Reference Document for every Pathfinder book made is put online by Paizo, on this very site. The link is here:

http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/

Mind you, it doesn't have the awesome artwork and good layout of the actual books, but it'll give you all the text and game stats.

The DMG section on drugs can be found here:

http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/mastery/drugsAndAddiction.html

I hope that helps.

EDIT: Oh, and because I can't resist a good opportunity for this:

"HEY! Am I getting drunk?! Roll the dice to see if I'm getting drunk!"
