Curse of the Crimson Throne part 1

Gamer Connection

1 to 50 of 65 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

I'm new to DMing and even more so to PBP, but I've got a good grasp and have been DMing my own game, but as my Alex has been telling me doing a published game will be much easier and I feel that he is right. This will be Curse of the Crimson Throne, as pointed out by the title. The player's handbook to this can be picked up for free as a PDF on this site here.

Starting level: 1st level

Group size: I'm aiming for the average 4 - 5

Feats: Core, but depending on how the feat fits with your character I'll allow it as long as I know the other source it's from.

Traits: Traits are allowed. 2 Talents with no two the same. For example no two magic traits or Faith Traits.

Races: All core races and Tiefling are allowed.

20 point buy

Experience and starting cash will be the average.

Classes: I'm allowing all core classes and those from APG.

Just so you know, the time zone I'm in is BST also known as GMT +0 hour and I stay up late anyway.

A final reminder, I'm not taking a First-come/ first-serve thing, I'm more interested in concepts so that's all I want, a concept on, race, class, personality, motivations, aspirations etc, put into a spoiler tag in a single post, for my ease of reference. I don't want to see any actual builds out there that you will have spent extra time on, that I have to then say no to.

Note: As the player's handbook points out, the background will involve the Crimelord, Gaedren Lamm. He's been able to avoid the law whcih has only made you more and more angry to whatever happened to you.

I'm aiming to have people who will be able to post atleast once a day, but I will understand if events get in the way like family matters or something. After all, most of us have lives outside in the real world.

DM Dotting

My character submission:

Spoiler:
I was thinking of a La Costa Nostra/Mafia-style human rogue, trained in thief-type skills but mainly a strongarm-man/intimidator. He hates Gaedren Lamm for whatever reason (probably something that happened in his childhood before joining the Cerulean Society or other Thieves' Guild); he would see avenging himself as a matter of personal honor.

I see this character as quiet, unless he has something important to say. Illegal activities: forgery, strongarm/leg-breaker, a little b & e for industrial/commercial sabotage; more a "professional" and less a pickpocket.

Tall, imposing guy who is quicker than his brawn might suggest. Was thinking Lawful Neutral; is loyal to his organization, and honorable, but ignores the civil law if it runs contrary to his or his organization's aims. What do you think?

I like it, but with-holding who to put in and who not to until recruitment ends. I'll give it about a week to see how many people go for it and pick the people out, but I do like the concept.

I wouldn't be a fair DM is I didn't actually bother to read everyone's submission :)

Interested, a Human Fighter would be my choice.

Character:
Name: Jerome Hearthwarmer
Race: Halfling
Class: Inquisitor

Personality: Jerome is a follower of Cayden Cailean, with all that entails, but he also protects the faithful. He is a happy individual who often partakes of good wine and merriment, and is always ready with a joke regardless of the situation.

Motivations: Jerome is motivated by a love of all things good, but isn't particularly bound by the rules and conventions of the law. He tries to protect the faithful by hunting those who threaten them.

Aspirations: Jerome wishes to eventually open his own tavern with a shrine to Cayden Cailean, so that he can practice what he preaches.

Background: Jerome was born into a family of halflings who all revered the teachings of Cayden Cailean. Although some of his siblings went on to become Clerics of Cayden Cailean, Jerome instead used his skill at archery to become an Inquisitor for the Church of Cayden Cailean.

Jerome seeks Gaedren Lamm as he suspects that the local crime lord has kidnapped the child of a family friend. He'll stop at nothing to get the young child back.

Spoiler:

Lewyn female human bard.
No one knows where Kewyn was born as she was orphaned early in life. Her story begins on the streets of Magnimar where she learned to use her brains and charm to survive. The bullies realized her usefulness and kept her around though never fully trusted her. At the age of 17 she set out to see the world and learn its stories. She traveled through Varisia performing oration and flute whenever she could find people to listen. By the age of 19 she had been though most of the southern towns and cities of Varisia including a short stint in Korvosa where she ran afoul of the law and some of the drugs that plague the city . These days she is keeping her self clean looking for work, adventure, fortune, stories to tell and maybe some retribution for those that got addicted.

Here is my submission. I can have a character sheet ready in a bit.

Spoiler:
Dieter Stolzdorf
Human Witch

Dieter is the bastard son of a minor Korsovan nobleman and a prostitute. But he doesn't know that. All he knows is that he grew up poor, dirty, and afraid on the streets of Korvosa trying to help his mother survive. Years of scraping and scavenging were not remembered, though, when his mother dropped him off with Gaeden Lamm in exchange for a handful of silver. Dieter spent the next few unhappy years slaving for the decrepit thief, certain that his life would only last as long as Gaeden wished. His luck changed one day when he tripped over a tabby cat in an alleyway. To his amazement, his apology to the feline was returned in kind. Dieter had met his familiar, and his life would never be the same.

Long hours of tutelage under the cat during the night hours gave Dieter knowledge of the arcane arts. After a full year of study, he was finally brave enough to flee from Lamm and his 'employ.' He now wanders Korvosa as a mercenary for small-time operations. He is currently looking for something more satisfying than simply filling his money pouch.

i want to join! it'd be my first paizo module and i haven't read any of it either

here's my character

Spoiler:

i wish to play a LG human bard, a dashing swashbuckler kind of guy mixed with a little of indiana johnes kind of wakyness, he looks at he laws of the land with contempt, holding his own moral code with higher regard, the trait for hating Gaedren Lamm will be widowed, my character also dislikes the local law-enforcement groups for their disability to deal with the case

Character idea / background post

Spoiler:

A young human male, around his 20´s - 30´s, son of a fallen noble, who was destroyed by other warring factions due to their power. Especially Gaedren Lamm, who had his sight in his family fortune, was more than willing to help other lords (of course for big amount of gold (and chance to blackmail them later)) to destroy the S´eadon´s family and get his share from the loot)

Now with revenge in his mind, this young man is wandering the streets of Korvosa, trying to find a way to kill this foolish man for tainting his familyname "as they say, revenge is best served with cold meal" with additional cold steel between ribs.

profession ideas:
monk:
He has received training from an elder monk, who happened to reside nearby area. His nobility status demands him to be thoughful, watching the situation with calm mind and ponder the situation from every side. Training from the childhood for the purpose of raising expectional lord.

bard:
life with nobility and high-status have made him something like fountain of rumours, the guy in the center of parties, charming man, who have word for every situation. He know´s the latest fashion, newest trends, is up to new projects... with the purpose of expanding his familystatus

fighter:
the eldest/youngest child responsibility to uphold status of family, learn the art of fight with both arms, weapons as with words, although this have come with cost of charm (charisma) (two-hand-w or two-w-fighting)

wizard / cleric:
the art of preaching, being closer to gods than the common people, upholding the truth/ the lies, upholding the justice in the name of greater good, access to might of greater beings, mastering the laws of universe-> the power which belongs to his family (universalist will be the choice due to believe of achieving greatness + knowing everything)

(Cleric of Good/Evil, depending how I want to build up character :P and party choices but I prefer here idea of evil cleric due to revenge, fallen status and cold blooded determination)

Interested! Are you allowing the varient Tiefling stuff from the CoT AP?

Character Idea:

Race: Human(Shoati decent) who was abducted by slave traders as a young child

Alignment/Class: Neutral, Cavalier(Order of the Dragon)

Background: He was sold into slavery as a young child, was then given to Lamm by is "father"(noble owner) to pay for an "accidentally" killed prostitute in Lamm's employ. Later escaped Lamm by faking his death and joined the Chelaxian military...upon completing his "tour"..he has returned to Korvosa, not only seeking vengeance upon Lamm but also against the Noble slaver who sold him to Lamm as a boy.

Personality: Cold and self-serving, but not above working with others if it suits his own goals.

The Exchange

Character Concept:
Female, Tiefling, Cleric of Calistria (Charm & Trickery Domains). Unhappy Childhood campaign trait. Prehensile Whip trait from Adventurer's Armoury (if allowed).

Background: One of Lamm's urchins, kinda' cute with exotic Tiefling features some with jaded tastes were willing to pay for even when she was very young... grew up thinking that sort of abuse was 'love', but eventually grew too much, and too strong willed, and rebelled against the crime lord. For that 'sin', he cut her... cut her bad... and left her to die in some back alley. She survived, but her new scars and limited life skills led her to a rather specialized field of 'personal services' - one involving leather outfits and whips. That, in turn, led her to Calistra, and her first real sense of self-worth.

Personality: She's a flirty, sultry, seductress, with a fondness for suggestive and provocative words and manners - but has seen enough to know only to follow through when it actually means something (although that 'something' could be a few coins, or a guard distracted for a minute or two...). Comes across as confident, if not downright brazen. Prefers talking and other 'social' solutions to fighting, but is willing to risk her life for the few real friends she feels she can count on (she's 'friendly' with everyone, but winning her 'true' friendship is difficult - although once won, it's there for life).

Hope that's not too weird... ;)

A prospective character for your consideration...

Spoiler:

Krenn Weststone is a 1st level male neutral dwarven ranger. His favored class is fighter. I’m looking at Deft Dodger and Missing Child (from the Player’s Guide) as his traits.

Krenn was content with his lot in life. His family was not lacking for able merchants, but Krenn’s talents and disposition made him well suited as an escort for those who are more ambitious. The trip from Janderhoff to Korsova was often eventful, but Krenn learned to deal with the hostile travelling conditions and grew to like life on the road. One evening his young nephew, brought along by his brother to learn the business, went out of the inn while Krenn was sleeping to see the city at night. In the morning, when young Menir had not returned, Krenn started to scour the city. Months passed and Krenn spent every copper and every waking moment trying to track down his nephew. Even long after his brother gave up hope and returned home, Krenn stayed and continued the search. His only clue has been a child, one of Gaedren Lamm’s “Little Lamms”, who told him that Gaedren had kidnapped a dwarf child, mistaking him for a human. He overheard Gaedren swearing about the mistake, and plotting to rid himself of the dead weight since a dwarf child was too conspicuous. While Krenn’s hope has diminished, he has not given up and now hunts Gaedren, to find his nephew and avenge him. He cannot go home now, not without his nephew.

Krenn hopes to take to travelling again, but cannot bring himself to do so until he has resolved what happened to his nephew. He has learned more about humans than he cares to know, and now spends any spare moments honing his combat skills. He wants to be ready when he tracks down Gaedren so no one will be able to stand between them. Krenn was never as well put together as most dwarves in his family are. Even shortly after grooming, wisps of whiskers start escaping their braids and freshly attended garments look like they have been slept in. His trademark quick smile and quicker humor have been long absent since the disappearance of his nephew, though they shine through on rare occasion when he is allowed to forgot himself.

I should have no problem posting daily. I am involved in several other PbPs here on the Paizo site, including one that is over 2000 posts since March and one that saw the Carrion Hill module through to completion.

Parneth would like to join the mix for this game, he was unfortunate and didn't make the cut for the last game he tried, so would humbly submit his credentials to you. You will find the background on his character page.

I'm a sucker for playing a good arcanist, but I am very fortunate to be involved in two PbPs as wizards, with a commitment to play another in the AP after Kingmaker. I was feeling a bit nostalgic for a classic axe wielding dwarf, and I was excited about this opportunity because I didn't get to play Crimson Throne back in 3.5.

I'd like to join this pbp using the alias I'm posting under; Cim travels a lot, seeking employment. She doesn't want to make trouble, but when a certain crime lord tries to chase her out of "his" section of the city when she gets a bit too altruistic concerning one of his jobs and he ends up killing her traveling companion, she won't turn down a chance to do some good, and of course, revenge.

This may be way off base, but what's the game if you can't have a little fun with it.

Spoiler:

This is an idea that I have been tinkering around with for a little while, and I actually think it could fit well into this campaign. The overall idea is a Halfling paladin, struggling to stay completely lawful in the face of his racial compunction toward chaos.

Alfalfa Stubbletoes
Male Halfling Paladin
Background trait: Religious. Combat trait: Reactionary.

Alfalfa Stubbletoes is the son of a Halfling sailor who worked the specialized trade vessels of Korsova, and the grandson of one of the great Halfling outriders (a 3.5 concept; basically the guardians of the Halfling lands, specialized in mounted archery from riding dogs). He was abducted by Gaedren Lamm as a child, and due to this nimble hands and quick wit, was forced to work as a begger and cutpurse for the Little Lamms. Throughout these harsh times, “Alf” was beaten regularly (Combat trait: Reactionary), but would always close his eyes and relive the stories of his grandfather, the legendary Thistle Stubbletoes, defender of the homeland, and would draw an inner strength from the memories.

One day during his thieving, he lifted a heavy purse from a clergyman in simple brown tunic. As he hid in an alley to count the purse, a small silver tankard fell out, seemingly perfectly sized for his tiny hands. He hid the memento on his person before returning to Lamm. But the old thief knew instantly that the Halfling was withholding, and beat him savagely even after he’d found the item. Lamm assumed that the child had known the origin of the piece, and did not hide his disgust at the stories of the chaotic do-gooder Cayden Cailean. Over the next several weeks, Alf asked passersby about the curious man-turned-god, and many seemed surprised that a Halfling of any age would not be familiar with the hard-drinking, carousing god. One day when he asked an already intoxicated dwarf, the bearded drunkard swept the child up onto his shoulders and noisily and happily made his way to one of the drinking houses that served as Cayden’s centers of worship (Background trait: Religious).

Inside, Alf found many other Halflings, including one who was a priest of the drinking god. This new mentor promised to look after the child until his coming of age, and gave his food, a little nip of ale occasionally, and the promise that he would be safe in the alehouse/temple. He began studying the snippets of witty prose that constitute the sum total of Cayden’s holy teachings, and soon aspired to become a priest of his new faith. That dream changed the night that Lamm tracked down his wayward ward.

Lamm and a group of the older and stronger Little Lamms stormed the alehouse just before dawn, and while the priests were busy trying to fend off the admittedly light attack, Alf grabbed the closest thing to hand, the Halfling priest’s small hunting bow. He loosed shot after shot, pinging Lamm twice in the legs before the thief’s assault was repulsed. In the aftermath, Alf – remembering the tales of his grandfather – asked why they had been surprised so easily, and why there were so few defenses in place. The priests explained to him that the chaotic nature of the alehouse, and of Cayden’s own beliefs, lended more to revelry than devotion, and that across all of Golarion there were not more than 100 souls who would call themselves paladins of the drunken god.

That night, Alf pledged himself to the protection of the alehouse that had become his home and his savior. He taught himself the bow and Cayden’s weapon of choice, the rapier. He recited the tenets of his new god every day, and worked in the alehouse every night, charming all with the same wit that had made him one of Lamm’s most profitable beggars.

The day will come when he will ride out from the alehouse on one of the great outrider dogs of yore, and he will confront Lamm, and free those who were not able to escape on their own. But until that day, the lowly Alfalfa Stubbletoes will wash ale mugs and recite his creed, and dream of becoming the first Halfling paladin of Cayden Cailean.

These AP games seem to fill up fast. Bummer. I'm a PbP first timer and if there's room left and my time zone would not be an issue (GMT+10) I'd like to throw my hat in.

Unfortunately I'm late to the party, so perfectly understandable if I don't make the cut. I'd be interested in playing a bard of some kind? I've had a bleached old Gnome Bard kicking around for a while. I'd half written this statblock some time ago if memory serves, but my basic concept was a gnome bard that had grown bored of life in the service of the upper echelons as a minstrel/assassin and now lives a hedonistic "devil-may-care" lifestyle performing and swindling his meals.

I'll take a gander at the players guide when time allows and possibly throw together something more appropriate.

You're not "Late" since I havn't actually made a decision yet. The reason I am leaving this fourm open for a while is to wait for a moment and give many people a chance to apply so everyone has a fair chance before I make my decision. On that note there are a lot of very interesting backstories. Everyone is under consideration until the week (as in all 7 days since I first posted) is out.

ProfPotts here: I wasn't going to do this but... just in case I get in I whipped up some of the 'crunchy' bits for this alias. I've assumed max hit points at level 1, I've also not added any Traits yet (being all DM dependent and stuff).

No background or description on there yet (see character submission above for a few details), but she's gonna' be called 'Tapestry' due to all the scars she has.

(I'm not assuming I'll get in by the way, I'm mostly just testing how this 'alias' thing works...)

yeah max for first level. Would be unfair to make you roll for your first set of hit points, especially if a low level creature get's a decent damage roll you'd fall down in one roll if you got like a 1 on the dice.

About Traits, you can add them unless I saw something different. So far I see no problem with them. The whip thing does make you a bit like Indiana Jones, but Calistria's clerics are required to have whips if I remember due to their sultry ways.

Okay - since it's kinda' fun just to create the character, I've added some 'fluff' to the 'crunch'. I was going with 'evocative without being graphic' for the background, so I hope that works, and sets the tone a bit for how I'd play her (and within the messageboard rules one would hope too!) - although I'm thinking in actual play she'd come across as more lighthearted than the background may suggest.

Alexander's submission here. Should Curnach get picked I will stat out all my summons in augmented form in spoilers, to speed up play. As you know, time zones and posting frequency aren't a problem for me. Curnach is a human druid with the Fire domain as his nature bond. He is intended as a strong caster-type character, not a druidzilla monster.

Backstory

An extremely young lad at the tender age of 17, Curnach is a Human Druid (Male). Curnach's had a horrible childhood from the moment he was born. Growing up in an orphanage after being dumped there by his parents at birth for unknown reasons, he was badly mistreated there by the vicious taskmasters, who treated the orphanage as a breeding school for forced labour. Curnach spent much of his childhood performing menial tasks and slaving in a makeshift manufactory, while the orphanage owners made a fine art out of feeding the malnourished children as little as possible while keeping them alive and able to work.

On the outside, the owners of the orphanage were 'Saints of Korvosa' and the children were far too scared to say any different, most of them beaten into submission. Curnach found himself so scared and cowed that he barely even spoke, leading him to be bullied and outcasted even by the other orphans. By the age of seven it had been three years since he had said anything to another person- his only companionship was with animals.

Curnach discovered he could use a tiny amount of his food to lure a rat closer to him. His curiousity aroused, Curnach lured the rat closer and closer each night until one day he reached out and stroked it. The animal leapt back in fright, but Curnach persisted and over the weeks he found himself with a companion who would visit him frequently. The creature never spoke back to him, but Curnach spoke to it every night, taking solace in the rat's simple presence. At the age of eight, Curnach managed to escape the orphanage, dashing for the front door when an official came to visit the orphanage. Barely making it outside, Curnach felt exultant as he escaped into the crowd, having no idea how to live or look after himself, but finally free of his wicked masters.

Curnach lived the only way he knew- like a rat. Sleeping in alleys and in rubbish refuse, he scavenged and stole what he could, wherever he could. It didn't take long for one of Lamm's 'enforcers' to find him and press-gang him into Lamm's service as a pickpocket- first through feigned kindness, then through intimidation and fear. For the next six years until Curnach was 14, he worked for Lamm, once again subsisting on a measly amount of food and living in fear of his master's wrath.

Feeling betrayed by the enforcer that lured him into Lamm's service with false promises and a loaf of bread, Curnach nursed a deep hatred of Lamm and his men. He noticed that his connection with rats had grown somewhat- they often came to him and watched him curiously- and not just rats either. Sometimes cats, dogs, and birds came to him when he held out his hand before him. The animals of Old Korvosa became his greatest friends, and he named many of them, learning to tell them apart by small distinctions of fur, feather, tooth and claw. One day he spent so much time with his animal friends, he had little to bring Lamm in the way of tribute. Lamm berated him furiously, and then beat him. Lashing out and fighting for his life, Curnach finally hit Lamm back- and Lamm leapt back in surprise as Curnach's fingertips glowed with flames, flames that had burnt the old bastard. Although he had been singed by the flames, his wrath only grew greater and he left Curnach broken and bleeding out upon a garbage heap. Curnach survived on the morsels his animal friends brought to him, barely able to move. It took two days for him to gain the strength to begin struggling for life once more. Since then, Curnach's druidic powers have grown somewhat, and he found himself able to manage some minor spells, finding that he was particularily adept in calling creatures from somewhere else to serve him briefly.

His affinity for fire stayed with him and grew stronger, and he earnt a better living with his new Druidic powers than he ever had as a pickpocket. Earning enough with his gifts to buy himself some hide armour and a shield, as well as a small healers kit, Curnach is now 17 and living in an alleyway in Old Korvosa. Although he now has the money to rent a room in a cheap inn, Curnach is deeply mistrustful of other folk and prefers to be self-sufficient. He still nurses a burning hatred for Lamm, and he has sworn to one day burn Lamm's home to the ground- as well as that damn orphanage...

Appearance

A little above average height at 5"11, and fairly heavy set, Curnach never quite lost the gaunt face that malnutrition gifts the young with. Curnach has dark brown hair and piercing green eyes, which are quick to look away if you ever meet his gaze. His clothes and hair are absolutely filthy and unkempt, although his hide armour and shield are fairly well maintained. He is sporting the beginnings of a beard on his chin. Curnach is uncomfortable talking to other people, and has several nervous twitches when put in this stressful situation. He carries a small pouch containing some small red berries- he casts Goodberry religiously every morning and very rarely eats anything else. He is quite frail in build, agile but not strong.

Outlook

Curnach has never really been taught about the different deities, but has come to venerate nature itself, so is probably concerned Green Faith even if he wouldn't know what the Green Faith is. He is deeply suspicious of other humans, trusting only animals- their natures are solid and dependable, and their loyalty absolute once earned. Curnach does not yet know what he seeks in life, and is something of a blank slate morally with the exception of treating animals well when he can. He is incredibly perceptive, both in social situations and in observation- having been betrayed and forced to look out for himself many times in his young life. He says very little, trusting that few words will be wiser than many.

Yes, after a while of looking at other people post, most obvious choice for me would be either monk / sorc. Pretty much everything else is covered and as I can see descriptions, would be quite interesting combination of characters. So I will go with monk. I can get background up quite fast if necessary to see, how he would look like

With the nobility background, need to think to redo or if fine with you, to go like that? Just seeing some of them with lord fathers etc, but could be quite interesting plot to see, how each one of us could be related out of the 'Lamm' incident

Oh, forgot to add: Is it possible or if you allow (and I get accepted), I would like to use also as feat material: Pathfinder Companion - Cheliax, Empire of Devils. They have some neat feats plus traits which are acceptable (hopefully).

Monk ready. Here is background story

Escape...:

The house was burning and servants were screaming everywhere. You could not see anything at night due to flames, smoke and darkness. Only shadows were moving around you, scary and big ones, yelling and pillaging around once so beautiful yard but now as a field of death. Hanging on your mothers arms, you two run all the way while two guards of your family come alongside, devoting to protect and ensure yours and your mother safety.

Korvosa is full of danger and you, mother and 2 guard keep running on streets, afraid of stopping and not looking back. Suddenly a group of thugs jump from the alleys, trying to surround your small group. The guards charge to the front, opening a path and yelling you two run past fast! Despair as motive, fear as courage, mother keeps running while still carrying you, with shock in her face and tears flowing down... How could this happen to their ones so prestigous family, one of the highest in town...

You hear how the leader of group yells to some thugs to run after you two and soon chase beging. Already tired from the all the running and from carrying you, mother collapses and drops you, only to say : run my child, go! You must survive. Do not look behind but go. She pushes you forward, stands up and turns around to face the thugs.

You cry and tumble with your small legs forward, scared and crying without idea of what is happening. You hear woman screaming and fighting behind, but it ends soon. You can´t move anymore, tired and not knowing what to do. You see how two man comes slowly behind the corner, something still dropping from their blades.

Suddenly, a piece of carbage, which you though to be trash, turns and raise up. This old man, already maybe over his 60´s, look at your crying and shocked face, noticing all the dirty on the clothes and look´s to the thughs.

Something happened in just a few seconds! The old man was standing there, the thug were going to take a step, when they just collapsed and blood coming out of mouth. Small wind was blowing to the alley and the old man in front of you or his image shattered. Not knowing what happened, an arm suddenly graps you behind and picks you up. Panicking, what is happening now, the old man touches your hair and start to sign in odd sogn. You feel how your muscles relax, your mind (tired, confused, scared) slowly fading away and falling asleep.

Old man watches how the child falls asleep on his arms, smile appearing to his face. Last time watching to the dead bodies of the thugs, the old man and child disappears suddenly, as fast as lightning.

Many, many years there has been a rumour going on and recently, it has changed: in Korvosa streets and alleys you can spot from time to time and old man, moving around but you can´t hear or see him if he doesn´t want. He disappears and moves as he wish. He comes from far away, maybe from Vundra, maybe from Tian Xin, maybe from Arcadia but no one knows... Those who try to fight him, will be tripped, disarmed, defeated or in worst case, neck & throat are crushed faster than you can see. However, he has been seen walking around more than usually, with a young boy. Only whispers are filling the air, but it´s believed that the old man has taken an apprentice and teaching everything he knows to this child.

sounds interesting, but where's the friction? Does he escape from Lamm at a later date?

ahah, was kinda tired of writing alot but continueing or maybe short for this now->

The old man disappeared at some point (no one doesn´t know the reason) and he was left with old mans book, which he used to self-study martial art. (It was habbit from the old man to describe everything he knew plus easy way to teach small child with pictures how is everything done)

He is later captured by some thugs (Lamms men) and made do slave work. During his captivity he learns that it was Lamm and his men doing: They were the ones (hired swords) who attacked his family house with help from other nobles (jealousy plus chance to get part of his family gold & Lamm received huge amount from this).

He is able to escape later after year or two (thanks to his training plus little luck when guards were drunk).

However, the biggest thing which drive him mad is that it was Lamm himself, who personally killed [we can assume here "Croup de Grace"] his father and burning down his family house.
