Background:

Althon was born to the Shriikirri-Quah clan of the Shoanti people of Varisia, though he doesn't know it. As a baby he was abducted by slavers commissioned by Lord Edlean Skyven, a Korvosan noble. Edlean's wife Vyla was unable to bear children for him. Edlean plotted to kill the woman and replace her, but on the night the act was to be carried out Edlean was visited by a Devil. The devil told Edlean that he was to spare the woman's life and that if he did he would be "given" a son of grand prowess and stature. Edlean spared Vyla and plotted for a year to make the devil's prophecy come true.

Althon was raised by the Skyvens as there son. Even as a boy Althon was gifted with blade, word, and saddle. Edlean was pleased, the Skyven name would surely prosper under young Althon's banner. All was well until Vyla Skyven found her husband in the arms of a prostitute. Vyla was enraged. She killed the other woman with a long hair pin and was intern slain by Edlean. Had Althon not bared witness to his mother's murder all might have be resolved, but he had. As part of the conspiracy to hide the murders Edlean agreed to "sell" Althon to the Crimelord, Gaedren Lamm, Althon was 13.

Althon spent the next four years working for Lamm, until he faked his own death by "drowning" in the Narrows of St. Alika. He fled Varisia to Cheliax and used his family name to join the Chelaxian Army where he spent four years "doing nothing but drilling" with a Chelaxian cavalry unit. Out of boredom Althon left the army.

Currently Althon has returned to Korvosa for vengeance upon Lamm and his "Father".
