Walk, if you will, the claustrophobic alleys of the Tangle, the middenstone vats of the Filth, and the cobbled white roads at the summit of an ancient hill. Know that this is but the latest of cities to crown this summit, a monument to the filth and grime and waste of civilization. The city was built upon the battlefields of history past, for many have sought to control this key feature, this lonely hill in a sea of mud and mire. Only its name has remained constant through the ages — Carrion Hill.
Greetings all!
I'm looking for five mature, dedicated players to have a go at the Pathfinder module Carrion Hill. I'm a 36 year old gamer who has been hooked on RPGs since the early 1980s, and I'm hoping to connect with some like-minded gamers in an engaging play by post adventure. Potential players should be able to post on something resembling a daily basis (excepting illness, emergency, vacation, and so forth). I'd like to be able to find players who will work at breathing life and personality into their PCs, taking full advantage of the written word as afforded by the pace of a message board game. Combats will be visualized by hosted map images (or maybe even a Google docs spreadsheet) with the intent to keep them fast-paced and exciting. Die rolls will be handled using the built-in message board roller, again, to help keep things moving along.
I'll not likely simply accept the quickest five folks who chime in with interest. Instead, I'll have a look at some of your other posts 'round these parts to get a sense of your writing style and demeanor. Any other PBP experience you have will be particularly useful in this regard, but if you're a first timer, that's okay too. Just tell me a little something about yourself when you post. I'll hold off at least until tomorrow, just to let the Monday crowd have a look, and then I'll get around to the serious business of picking my players. It may go rather quickly, depending on the number of responses, so don't delay too long.
PCs will be created at 5th level, but I'd prefer we not get too far into the creation process at this point. After player selection, we'll make it a cooperative effort between players and DM, to ensure party balance and cohesion. Still, if you have thoughts or questions about the matter, don't hesitate to ask.
Finally, be aware that this module is really quite dark in tone, and is strongly inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Consider whether this type of module is your cup of tea before jumping in with both feet.
Prospective players, I look forward to hearing from you!
Good Gaming,
Simon Furr

I would like to throw my hat into the ring. I've currently got some characters statted up for Kingmaker (check my profile for links) but they can be easily converted.
I've tried to play in othe PbP's only to have them die after a few weeks and I'm currently running a Kingmaker campaign on these boards.
From the Ashes:Kingmaker Reborn
As you can see I'm available to post almost all day long, several times a day, so keeping the action moving wouldn't be a problem. On the weekends my posting rate slows down to the 2-3 times.
Thanks for the consideration,
V

I would love to play in your game. I'm new to PBP but I'm learning fast, and I can post several times a day. I used to run a Ravenloft Campaign of my own so Carrion Hill is right up my alley.
As far as character creation goes, I'm totally flexible and willing to fill in the gap as needed, so to speak.
Currently I play Colburne Blackhand in SdF's Master of the Fallen Fortress game. You can view the thread here.
Thanx,
Keenword

I would love to throw my hat into the ring for consideration. I currently play in several Pbp's, one of which is finishing up the others are slow...would love a more fast paced/mature (i'm 33, gaming since about '87) game. I can post several times a day every day of the week (love iphones). Would probably like to try playing an Inquisitor/Rogue or something along those lines. But can/will play anything. Thanks for the consideration.

Hey thar,
Yep count me in. Similar story by the sounds of it, 36 and been gaming since '83. That's what, 27 years? Cripes. What did you start with?
I've played some PbP's before, not here though, but here's a writing sample from a PbP I'm running at the mo. I can post several times a day during weekdays, no so much on weekends.
I do like to play skillsy characters, so rogues rate high on my list, though Deepdweller put down a claim first so seconding that an urban ranger or wizard would be fun; either way I'm not too fussed — they all taste the same to mighty Cthulhu.

More hats in the ring, welcome Deepdweller and mangalore!
@mangalore, my Dad had an old blue box basic rules set that first caught my eye, and I actually rolled up a few characters out of that book and had fun populating the rooms of the dungeon from 'In Search of the Unknown'. The first module I DM'd was Keep on the Borderlands, for some friends. Never looked back. :)

I've been in several PbPs that have petered out; I'm in one that's presently running. I prefer running skill-monkeys and/or spellcasters to melee combatants and Small characters to Medium. My characters include Adele Dujardin, halfling bard/paladin of Shelyn from Galt, Douena Trestleben, cheerful but unpredictable gnome rogue/cleric of Desna, Nuveril, violent halfling barbarian raised in a nomadic tribe of Katapesh, and Zo, taciturn Varisian rogue with a secret past.

Well, I am quite a fan of H. P. Lovecraft's work, so anything that is 'strongly inspired' by that certainly has my attention :-)
I only stumbled upon gaming in the early 1990's, and developed a particular fondness for Ravenloft and Call of Cthulhu.
I have a fair amount of PbP experience, some of which is on these boards; I think my writing style will speak for itself. 2/day posting will certainly not be a problem!
I must admit to having a fondness for spellcasters, although I can be quite flexible as to what sort of character I play.
I look forward to hearing your selections!
A few example characters that I have statted-up include:

Some cousins came back from Indonesia one Christmas, where they'd been at an International School and must have been "infected" there by some kids from the US. Gave me the Erol Otus red box. I was too young to make head or tales of it, but some mates figured it out. And yeah, ever since Keep on the Borderlands, every adventure must have a rumours table.
Good luck choosing your sacrificial victims!

Hello! I'd like to jump on in as well. I'm actually in the same pbp as a previous poster, Jaycen. I am also pretty new to pbp's. These are the only two characters I've run. Zerekias Tholtan
Joe MacGillicuddy
I, personally, like more combat oriented characters.
But like Mangalore said earlier, I also can go with whatever's needed.

This does seem like an excellent game type. I am not a super-long-term tabletop gamer; I got in around 3rd edition, but I've been into RPGs since the original Nintendo came out and I got my free copy of Dragon Warrior around age 5 or 6 that came with your subscription to that brand-new magazine, Nintendo Power (that makes me 28, for those who don't want to look it up). Although, my friends and I, before we'd even heard of tabletop, used to stat out "our guys" using something similar to the back of Marvel collector's cards and the like.
I have never played a PbP, but the depth afforded does seem interesting to me. How do you run a combat without taking 2 weeks for a single battle in something like that, though?
I'm afraid because I've not played a PbP, I can't really give you a link to any characters or previous games of mine. I am, however, available to post at least twice a day, if not more.
What materials are available for this particular game?
| Me'mori |
Count me in for the selection process as well. I found D&D at 3.0, being a SR fan before that (no likey new edition). Since you'll be referencing our posting history, I'll not delve into much detail, since I believe the character says most of everything, especially once it gets enough life to breathe on its own.
I'll be upfront and say that the game concept eerily echoes a post I put up earlier for a summoner concept, and I'm really hoping to play that, should I be chosen out of the.. players numbering in the upper twenties? *grins and bows*
Until the Choosing.

I would love to participate in the Carrion Hill game. I have tried my hand at several games where the DM had to bail.
It seemed that many joined games just for the sake of joining games so I have strayed away from attempting to monitor the boards constantly to be one of the first to join or trying to beat a clock to match an idea for a character with little to go on.
I would love to create a story with like-minded individuals, especially if it flowed more quickly than a melting glacier.
I have been gaming for 20+ years and also seek mature, like-minded souls as well.
I have been GM'ing a game on-line, so feel free to check out my style through my many posts.
I look forward to the horrors!

I'm fairly new to PbP (currently playing in my first; my character is Lycia Kaeyl in JZ's Master of the Fallen Fortress). I am interested in a Carrion Hill game!
I'm a year younger than the OP, and have been playing D&D since the late 80's (AD&D, originally). I can post several times a day, no problem. I'm enjoying PbP so far, as it gives me a chance to play a PC instead of GMing (my usual designation).
I truly like playing any kind of character; I'm pretty flexible as far as "character niche" is concerned. Currently, I'm playing an enchanter; I'm down for anything, however.
Thank you for your consideration!

Announcement: The window of opportunity to be considered as a player in this game will be closing sooner rather than later! When I get home from work tonight (about 7PM EST), I'll begin to dig in and make the tough calls. Welcome and thanks to all of those who have chimed in so far. For my own ease of reference, here's a list in order of appearance:
1. Vanulf Wolfson
2. Jaycen Keenword
3. Deepdweller
4. mangalore
5. Joana
6. Luke_Parry
7. Javell DeLeon
8. thegreenteagamer
9. Me'mori
10. Kalderaan
11. Rhys Grey
@thegreenteagamer: As for materials available, I'd prefer to stick mostly to core Pathfinder rules. That said, if there are some options from a third party source that you're just dying to use, I'd consider such (within reason...a feat here, a spell there). The classes from the Advanced Player's Guide are on the table too, but I'm not likely to want more than about two characters using classes from said book (just to lessen the learning curve).

Hi all,
Apologies for the delay, connectivity issues prevented me from using the internet last night. But, with no further ado, here are the players I've selected. Would the five of you be so kind as to check in at the OOC thread, to confirm your spot in the game?

Thanks to all of you for your interest, I'm sorry I had to turn down so many good players. I truly do think five players is about my limit though. If anyone of the above should bow out, I'll return here and ask for an alternate.
Thanks again!
Good Gaming,
